Saturday August 13th 17.30 – FIFA Soccer 2005 (PC)
Sunday August 14th 15.00 – FIFA Soccer 2005 (PC)
Due to the unique nature of the event they will be running the qualifiers as follows:
On each day Registration will take place at the times specified above at the WCG stand. Those players wishing to participate in the qualifier must therefore purchase a ticket for the block of the event that starts at that time on the appropriate day.
Registrations will last for 20-30 minutes, after which the competition will commence with the winners of their games able to remain in the event hall until they are knocked out of the competition, not requiring additional ticket purchases should the qualification games run into the next event time-slot. The competition will most likely be single-elimination but if you are knocked out of the event on the first day you will be able to attend for the second day to try again. The winners of each day for each game will qualify for an all-expenses paid trip to the UK Finals which will be held at Samsungs HQ in Surrey during the Autumn. In addition to this the winner on each day will receive a Samsung donated prize, details of which will be confirmed on the day of the event.
The WCG stand at the event will be open from Wednesday August 10th and players are more than welcome to come along and try out the tournament machines that shall be running. If you are intending to compete I would thoroughly recommend you do come along to one of the days before the qualification proper as it may take some adjustment to playing on a stunning 42” Samsung plasma television or on a PC that is not your own.
They will be giving out further details of the other qualifying methods for the UK Finals after the Edinburgh event is completed. They can confirm that there will be a mixture of both LAN and Online qualifying and it would be in your best interests to make an effort to attend this week as they are not as likely to feature in other LAN events.

As we all know we can not make a new game play system for FIFA 2005, but we can make some changes so the game will look and play far more realistically. The Gameplay Patch features:
more realistic gameplay;
Auto tackling means the players which are not selected will try to block CPU shots and passes;
more realistic gravity;
fixed sprinting speed (try to play Arsenal and see how Henry can now run!);
more shot accuracy (just press the right arrow or left arrow when you are trying to shoot - no diagonal keys are necessary now);
more advanced CPU tactics (try to play semi professional difficulty and this be far more realistic);
more player to player collision effects than before;
more powered gameplay than before;
shooting speed changed so just power up till just more than a half of the power bar to shoot perfectly;
more realistic goal keeping than before;
and much much more.
The Gameplay Tutorial just requires Microsoft Word to read it and you will learn some of Amit's excellent tips and hints for improving your FIFA 2005 gameplay.

Today we bring you Sweetpatch Development Posse member, Anubhav Ashok's, Arsenal Home Kit 2005/06 for FIFA 2005.
Arsenal’s famous red and white strip has a less obvious heritage than the crest. In 1895 a selection of Nottingham Forest players joined the squad, subsequently bringing their old kit along with them. Arsenal’s economic resources in the 19th Century were not as they are today. Therefore working to a tight budget, the Club decided the most inexpensive way of acquiring a strip was to kit out the team in the same colour as the ex-Forest players. So, the very origins of Arsenal’s kit were more by accident than design.
This original kit was a deep red, with long sleeves, a collar and three buttons down the front. The shirt was worn with white knee length shorts and heavy woolen socks with blue and white hoops. The goalkeeper wore the same attire apart from the shirt - which was a hand knitted cream woolen polo neck jumper. It was this deep red kit that the team wore during their first season at Highbury in 1913/14.
It was the arrival of manager Herbert Chapman in 1925 that launched the Arsenal kit as we know it today. Chapman noticed someone at the ground wearing a red sleeveless sweater over a white shirt. This inspired him to create a new strip combining a red shirt with white collar and sleeves. It also incorporated the Club badge, which was positioned on the left-hand side of the shirt. This particular shirt was produced by Bukta, one of the first sportswear manufacturers in the UK. One of the 1935/36 Bukta kits belonging to winger Alf Kirchen is displayed in the Arsenal Museum.
Download this excellent and historic kit direct from our Download Boutique.
Our good friend and Sweetpatch Development Posse member Area51 welcomes you to Fifa Chillspot's new Challenge Cup knockout tournament.
They aim to complete a full 16 player knockout phase style tournament to discover the best FIFA player in the world. As their tournaments progress, they hope to gather more competitors and begin in a Champions League style group phase with up to 32 people or more!
How the FCS Challenge Cup will run:
2 Legs per round, Home and Away (except the final). If a game is drawn on aggregate then the team with the most away goals will proceed to the next round. If it is still a tie, play a 3rd game on the GOLDEN GOAL RULE, first team to score will proceed.
Round 1 - There will be a set of 8 games (16 teams). Each game will be drawn LIVE on MSN when all 16 teams are signed up.
Quarter Final/Semi Final - There will be no draw for the 8 teams who progress, instead, each team will move along to their closest block on the flow chart and will be paired accordingly. This will be seen on the STANDINGS page.
Final - The final will be a 1 leg affair, the player with the best connection is advised to host. If after 90 minutes it is a draw, the players should continue to Extra-time and/or Penalties until a winner is decided.
Winner - The winner will win (if wanted) a 50MB Play-Fifa.com e-mail account.

Commentary Master 2005 plus International Commentary Patch 2005
I return today from a fantastic 2 week family holiday with lots of great news to catch up on and share with you. Before posting today's exciting news I would like to publicly thank Dave (Kotp) for keeping the site active in my absence. Most appreciated mate.
Ok, on with the awesome news we have for you today. Our excellent Sweetpatch Development Posse utility developer Rinaldo Zocca has created a great new utility for you, his Commentary Master 2005.
Commentary Master is an editor that allows you to modify the commentary of FIFA 2005 and allows you to do several things including:
from simply adding a comment for hearing the name of a player when he touches the ball;
up to replacing the entire commentary with your own voice;
you can also export and import any part of the commentary to exchange with your friends;
Commentary Master also comes with a powerful sound recorder and editor: Audacity. (Audacity is free software developed by audacity.sourceforge.net)
Please note: Commentary Master requires the .Net Framework to be installed on your PC for it to run.
To compliment the release of Commentary Master 2005 Rinaldo has also developed the International Commentary Patch 2005.
This excellent patch allows all the international commentators from England, Spain, Germany, France and Italy to work together in your FIFA commentary. You will have over 2800 players called with their own name by the different commentators. When possible the commentators with the most correct pronunciation have been selected. The rest of the commentary will remain in your original language.
Download this excellent Commentary Patch, to compliment your copy of Commentary Master 2005, direct from our Download Boutique.

Rinaldo Zocca's excellent new Formation Editor for FIFA 2005, Tactic Master (click on screenshot for a full size image) has been greeted with great enthusiasm by all FIFA players.
With this editor you you can modify the tactics used in FIFA 2005 and it is fully compatible with all other patches.
Check out some of the feedback posted already in the forums:
"I really like this. It addresses one of the major gameplay flaws in FIFA 2005 which is the lack of "closing down" in midfield by the defending team. So you can finally say bye bye to those unrealistic 50 metre runs by midfield players without a challenging defender in sight..."
"As the midfield is now more crowded there are more collisions/deflections etc and changes of possession are now more frequent. Very authentic I say."
"Documentation is good as well and the author should be congratulated on making a fine game even better."
"It reminds me a little bit of Sameer Munot's brilliant FIFA 2003 gameplay patch"
"It is fully compatible with Creation Center, don't hesitate to install it, your Fifa will become better."
"It works fine with your current career and at first it seems to make a very subtle difference, but once you start playing more and more...you really feel the difference. I would like to see some of you guys who play World Class try this out and see if it helps stop the "usual goals". It's great to be able to play real pressure defence."
In Rinaldo's words:
"Don't forget that Tactic Master is an editor not a patch . You should use it to modify the original tactics of FIFA or UEFA CL (both are supplied with the editor). Now I am working to a Tutorial: a set of new tactics with clear explanation of them, so you can use them immediately or to understand the basic ideas and to build your own not from scratch.
I also started a new project: "Free Kick Master". Can you imagine what it can do? Beta testers are welcome for both the projects (and also an Italian to English translator)"

Our partners at FIFASoccer.ru have released version 4 of their excellent fifaFS. It is by far the most powerful tool for installing patches and allows you to install large amounts of files into your FIFA 2005, UEFA CL 04/05 and TCM 2005.
fifaFS works with the whole FIFA file system which is located in ...\FIFA 2005\data\... directory. You don't need to bother about zdata_xx.big, zdata_xx.bh files or fifa.fat. The program updates all these files automatically. You just specify the file name which needs to be added, replaced or extracted.
Its new features include:
100% EA compatible FAT rebuilding algorithm
File Masks ability (say "No!" to long scripts)
FSH Hashing - the fifaFS' brand new feature to prevent texture mess and game crashing
Command line support - the most useful commands: extract, import, etc (no need to write scripts for small patches)
New scripting facilities
include
if, goto, labels, break, trace
makedir, removedir commands
write to registry
predefined variables
saves backuping
UEFA CL 04/05 Support
TCM 2005 Support
Please note:
Currently, fifaFS is the only tool that regenerates FAT and works with .big files correctly.
It might restore your FAT if it was corrupted by other programs (like CC 2005 or FATBHBuilder).
Now fifaFS also takes care about FSH files. You won't have a mess with textures anymore.
Read documentation about FSH Hashing.
A lot of examples and documentation included with the program.
Download this great new version of fifaFS direct from our Download Boutique.

Brazilian becomes first FIFA Interactive World Champion
Rio's Thiago Carrico de Azevedo more than lived up to his country's footballing heritage by becoming the first champion of the FIFA Interactive World Cup after a gruelling day of competition.
The world's top eight players waged war for the prestigious title, but Thiago never lost his cool as he steered his France team through the competition playing EA Sports’ FIFA 2005 on Xbox. He outsmarted close friend and online “game-mate” Matija Biljeskovic 2-1 in a cliffhanger of a final. His victory at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich, which was streamed across the world live over the internet on FIFA.com, drew wild applause from both players and spectators packed around the gaming pod.
First Round But it didn’t all go Thiago's way in the first round when the eight players were split into two groups and played one game against each in their group. He opened up with a 2-1 victory over Australian Shane Magee, but then South African Shimane Morekure, the youngest competitor and winner of the first regional event in Johannesburg, beat Thiago’s France 3-2. The Brazilian student then drew against London winner Paul Gordon in his next game, giving him four points and the runners-up place in his group behind Shimane, who notched up the highest score of all finalists with nine points.
Semi Finals Well aware that the global winner will stand alongside the world's best footballers at the FIFA World Player of the Year Gala and be recognised as the world's best football gamer, Thiago shifted up a gear in the semi-final, where he faced professional gamer Yoon Seo Park from Korea Republic. The match was worthy of a last four battle – the fleet-footed Thierry Henry did the damage proud with a hat-trick that sealed a 3-2 victory over the hot favourite from Asia.
The second semi-final was marked by even more prolific goalscoring. Matija Biljeskovic's AC Milan strikers Crespo and Shevchenko gave him a 6-3 victory after extra over time over Shimane's Manchester United and a coveted place in the final.
The Final Both sides started cautiously and much of the play was centred around midfield, but a header by Henry put Thiago ahead in the 37th minute. The second half again saw defences dominant before Trezeguet got on the end of a cross to made it 2-0 in the 85th minute. In the final minutes of the match, American Matija gained some consolation thanks to Shevchenko's goal, but it was too little too late.
The Winner Thiago was overjoyed to win the competition which was watched by FIFA General Secretary Urs Linsi. The champion from Rio de Janeiro enthused. “I'm so happy. I used to play as Brazil, but Thierry Henry is very good so I switched to France. And the combination of Henry and Trezequet was just wicked.”
The Croatian-born Matija, who now lives in the United States, was gracious in defeat. “It was a very defensive game, almost like a stalemate in chess. There weren't that many chances, but whoever took their chance won – and he did that better than I. Second place is great. It's a dream come true that I can go to the World Player of the Year Gala - I can't wait to shake Shevchenko's hand. He's the best in the world.”
Shimane secured third place while Yoon had to settle for fourth.
FIFA General Secretary Linsi summed up the competition: “You guys did a great job, congratulations. This is the birth of something that one day will be really big. I think you’ve all contributed to the future, so well done!”
You can start practicing now for the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2005 and look out for details of qualification tournaments and registration information coming here soon.

FIFA Interactive World Cup: London, 20th November 2004
There hasn't been an English world champion in football for almost forty years. That could be about to change thanks to the skills of 22-year-old Londoner Paul Gordon, the latest winner in FIFA’s Interactive World Cup.
Paul proved himself the best from over six hundred entrants in the London leg of the inaugural FIFA Interactive World Cup held in Earl’s Court on 20 November. He fought his way through a qualifying round and a final tournament to earn the right to prove himself to be the best in the world the Final to be held in Zurich on 19 December.
After his victory in the final, Paul said there was no better person to represent Britain at the Interactive World Cup final, as he was “The best. The Man.”
Paul Gordon took away his prizes and promised to put in as much practice as is humanly possible, confidently predicting success in Zurich. His confidence and swagger made him a firm crowd favourite throughout the day, and he fired off a warning to the rest of the finalists. “Watch out. The Man is coming.”
See the full story by clicking here, and throughout this week we will have stories and pictures from the SFTLA guys who attended.

Problem with Netherlands kits in Sweetpatch's Rosters 2004/2005 Episode 3
A problem has been identified with regard to the excellent new Netherlands kits that we included with Episode 3 of Sweetpatch's Rosters 2004/2005.
At the moment the Kit Raptor does not allow you to import kits that are not in the game. You therefore have to convert the files to FSH format and assign the kits the Netherlands Id number 105035 and put the 3 kits in the root directory of FIFA 2005.
If you know how to do this then you are ok, but we are currently working on producing a new version of the Rosters to include the kits correctly named.
Sweetpatch Roster Developer Jean-Michel Peyrou (Jomi) has created his third excellent Roster update for FIFA 2005, "The ultimate database for your Fifa 2005 game"using Microsoft Access and UNIdb.
The aim of this patch is to replace the original EA rosters in order to make them more accurate according to the latest real life events, and from the success of Episodes 1 and 2 he certainly seems to have achieved this. In this version there is also a very special treat!
The following great features are included in Episode 3:
Special bonus: The national team of the Netherlands is added without overwriting any other team and includes great new home, away and goalkeeper kits by Sweetpatch Posse developer Area51!
63 transfers completed
more than 170 new players added in the game
You can find all the details concerning transfers and new players in the text files included in the download.
This patch is the third of a series for the current season, so keep an eye out here regularly for all Jomi's updates. Episode 4 is coming next in the new year and the Netherlands kits will be available in our Download Boutique very soon as a kit pack on their own (click on image to right for full size picture).

Anyone can come along to the LondonFIFA Interactive World Cup event to try and qualify for one of the 512 semi-final places. The top 8 in each group will then go through to the final round where the winner earns a trip to the world finals in Zurich!
If you want to attend (and if you’re a FIFA fan you really should) the event takes place at Earls Court on Saturday the 20th of November. If you’re a serious FIFA player and want to qualify automatically you'll have to be in the top 60 FIFA Football 2005 players on Xbox Live, but anyone can turn up on the day to try and qualify.
There will also be loads of other football activities such as a Free Kick Wall, Timed Dribble and Shoot, Penalty Speed Kick and more. DJs Darren Emerson, Tim Westwood and Krafty Kuts will be there too as well as footballer Darius Vassell.
You've read all the others now here what Soccer Gaming have to say. After playing the game extensively for the past month they got a good feel of the game, including its positives and negatives.
"FIFA 2005 is a definite improvement over last year and will keep fans of the series happy for another year. Improvements to gameplay and career mode alone make it worth the purchase even if you had last year’s game. The gameplay has been heavily tweaked to go with its excellent graphics, sound and as always, licences."
With all the excellent utilities that have been released for FIFA 2005 recently, I wanted to dedicate this post to the very best of them.
The following utilities have all been added to our Download Boutique for you to get your copy:
Face Preview 2005
From SoccerAccess, Face Preview 2005 includes 8 different cameras to preview faces in the game. Just enter the player id and if that player has a specific face you will be able to preview it with the Face Preview.
From SoccerAccess, Chant Raptor 2005 allows you to import chants (wav or mp3 files) for your favourite teams. In a future version of Chant Raptor you will be able to import chants for players too!
From SoccerAccess, FATBH Builder builds fifa.fat and bh files from zdata big files. So, you can import files to zdata big files using EAGraph, Biggui, Gfxpak or Impbig and then run FATBH Builder in order to rebuild fifa.fat and bh files according to the new files you have imported. What can be done with FATBH builder?
You can use FATBH builder to distribute your patches. For instance you can make a bat file that imports files to zdata big. Include FATBH builder and ask users to run it after the files have been imported and ready!
You can use FATBH builder to import new files to the game. For instance new faces. Faces must be imported to zdata big files from zdata_01.big to zdata_18.big.
You can use FATBH builder to Fix your FIFA. For instance a patch or a utility can mess up your game. Using FATBH Builder probably you can solve the problem that makes your game crash.

Fantastic Air-Flo Games Controller for PC, PS2 and Xbox
Have you now played too many tough FIFA 2005 games and your hands are all sweaty? Keep your cool from now on with the Air-Flo Games Controller for PC, PS2 and Xbox, with incredible air-conditioning technology!
We've all experienced the problem of sticky palms after a long session of FIFA joystick bashing. But FIFA is just too damned addictive, so really it's a choice of putting up with hot, sweaty hands or giving up. Unless, of course, you've got an amazing Air-Flo Games Controller for PC, PS2 or Xbox.
This ingenious device features air-flo technology – an internal fan effectively makes it "air conditioned". As you use this ergonomically designed controller, a gentle flow of air keeps you feeling cool and fresh, without making you cold. So no matter how long it takes you to win that league or cup, you can play in comfort.
Today we have 2 great tools for you to easily manage your Zdata and Big files in FIFA 2005.
Big Raptor 2005 version 1.0 Big Raptor from SoccerAccess does everything from importing/exporting to rebuilding bh files and fifa.fat with just one click using an exclusive technology.
You are able to browse zdata files and import/export files from them. One interesting option is that you are able to export a file and open it with EA Graph or O Edit with just one click, and after you have modified and saved that file Big Raptor will ask you if you want to import it again. Big Raptor also detects automatically which zdata the file belongs to. Editing FIFA has never been this easy!
Download this great newBig Raptor version 1.0 direct from our Download Boutique.
BIG Project 2005 With this tool from Diego Rostagnol you can:
Import/Export files to the BIG files
Compress/Decompress the files in the BIG files
Add new files to the BIG files
Delete files that are in the BIG Files
Generate BH files for the zdata##.big files
Regenerate the fifa.fat file to work properly with the modified BIG Files
See the files in the BIG file filtered by file type
This tool was made for FIFA 2005 but should work fine with FIFA 2004 and in future releases you will be able to view the FSH files too, maybe export/import FSH files to/from BMP, JPG, GIF, and PNG with transparencies. Another improvement for future releases is that you will be able to view the content of other files like in an hexadecimal editor, maybe edit it too. You also need to download the .NET Framework in order to run this program.

Gamespot have reviewed FIFA 2005 and summarise with:
"So, as the final whistle approaches, how do we feel that FIFA Soccer 2005 has performed? Well, there's no doubt that this is EA Sports' best soccer game to date on the pitch, but it's really unfortunate that the career mode isn't more user-friendly. The game boasts the same level of detail as other EA Sports titles for the most part, but you might notice minor bugs and glitches as you spend time with the game. None of these little snags impact the gameplay or are really worthy of a mention here, but make the game seem a little rushed. Despite that, FIFA 2005 is a great game for fans of the sport."
As promised, today we have the excellent Kit Raptor 2GK for FIFA 2005 from our great friends over at SoccerAccess.
It will allow you to import/export 2GK and 1GK Kits (home, away, third, training and goalkeeper kits).
It also includes a light version of Dressing Room Cinema to preview kits in game.
There is also a fix available which solves the incompatibility problem between 2GK Kits and the FIFA 2005 Player Creator. (When you want to create a player for a team that you have imported a 2GK Kit the game crashes to Windows). Now in Player Creator the team kit will be replaced with a white one and this will prevent the game from crashing.
Have our partners over at Breamster.com got a nice treat for you! Their Kit making team have created nearly 60 2GK Kits for all English Premier League teams for FIFA 2004 and FIFA 2005.
Now that there is a Kit Raptor from SoccerAccess available for both games you can install and enjoy them!

To celebrate today's launch of FIFA 2005, we have an informative review of the XBox version by 3DAvenue.com who summarise that:
"FIFA 2005 again shows EA's commitment to providing one of, if not the best soccer gaming experience around. The brand new career mode has both its pros and cons but overall enhances the replay value of the game significantly and FIFA fans will relish the chance to take each other on online. You'd be hard pressed to find a more fully featured soccer simulation and that is why the FIFA series will remain one of the best soccer games on the market for at least another year."
Pros:
International teams return
Xbox Live play
New career mode
First touch is a great addition
Great graphics
Great soundtrack
Cons:
Can't pick club initially in career mode

To celebrate 5 years of the Sweetpatch site, my very good friend Matt Holme, previous supremo of the world's largest Soccer Gaming community, and now EA Sports Assistant Producer for FIFA 2005, has provided us an exclusive interview regarding FIFA 2005, the FIFA Fansite Community and looking ahead to FIFA 2006.
Check out the full interview where Matt answers very honestly to questions such as:
What would you say are the main differentiators between FIFA 2005 and previous versions?
How can the FIFA community compliment the work of EA Sports most effectively in the future?
What are the biggest changes we can look forward to in FIFA 2006?
How has working for EA Sports changed your outlook on the FIFA scene?
