No News is Good News!
Sorry for the lack of updates recently but this is due to 2 main factors, Jamie the programmer has been away on holiday, and I am awaiting on news back from Nicky over at FIFA 2000 On-line about moving this site under their wings. As soon as I have any news on this very exciting project I will let you know.

In the mean time, have you visited the Phase 2 page, downloaded, read, digested and passed on your comments to me? If not, please pay it a quick visit and provide me some feedback - thanks in advance.

EA Sports Opens FIFA 2000 site

EA Sports has today opened its site for FIFA 2000. Some excellent features on there, including Robbie Williams. Take a look via our link.

21/10/1999 - New Full Version pack including 1.0c Released

The previous beta version pack of the MRA, which included all the Visual Basic Runtime Libraries and ActiveX controls required, has been replaced by a new version which includes the latest release of the MRA 1.0c. So if you have not already downloaded the MRA you only need to load the Full version. In future you will only then need to download the smaller new versions of the MRA, excluding all the VB & ActiveX items.

19/10/1999 - Version 1.0c Released

Please visit the download section to obtain the latest 'bug free' version of the MRA. This version addresses all issues that have been previously identified including read-only file and copying issues. This has been thoroughly tested and has not been found wanting in any areas. I hope you can enjoy the benefits of this release for a long time to come.

New features include:

  • Ability to automatically generate a Leagues directory off your main FIFA99 directory to store all your additional leagues, rosters, add-ons, etc... This will also automatically reset your League Root directory for you
  • Any files found with read-only attributes will be automatically reset so they no longer cause the copy routine a problem
  • Under certain circumstances the MRA would crash when copying files, this has now been addressed

Support for the MRA

If you are having any problems with the MRA, please do not despair, it does work. Please check that you are running the latest version of the MRA, i.e. 1.0c and download the Help Documentation. If you still have a problem then please either:

  • preferably, select the 'Create Log' button on the Settings tab
  • or, if you cannot launch the MRA at all, download the Support Utility

Both of these options will create files which will enable you to provide the development team with the details they require to help diagnose any problems with the MRA.

Feedback required to assist with future development

If you have downloaded the MRA and are benefiting from it, we would love to hear from you. Please take a minute to send us your thanks, or observations. We would be very grateful if you could send us a quick e-mail with the following details:

1. Where you heard about the MRA
2. Which version of the MRA you are running
3. Which additional files have you downloaded, i.e. Help Files, Icons
4. What you would like to see improved with the MRA
5. What we can do to make the use of the MRA as clear as possible
6. How we can best keep you informed of progress/updates with the MRA (obviously we have this website but are postings on the Soccer Gaming forum more effective, a newsletter or just this site)
7. Any other comments you would like to add

Please, please, please take a few minutes to pass on these details so we can ensure that the MRA is developed to your satisfaction. We are committed to making this work for everybody.

17/10/1999 - New Version 1.0c

New version 1.0c will be available in the next couple of days, please refer to updated screen shots. This will address all of the outstanding issues which have been affecting peoples use of the MRA and should provide the ultimate 'bug free' release. Features included are:

- Ability to create your own NEW League directory
- Read-only file issues will be a thing of yesterday
- a few obscure copying issues existed which will be no more

FIFA-MRA is FIFA 2000 Compliant!

I can confirm that the FIFA-MRA is FIFA 2000 compliant already. EA Sports have kept a similar directory structure for 2000 as they had for 99 therefore the MRA will operate with both versions of the game. This is great news for the gaming community as I expect FIFA2000 to generate a whole new set of users who will benefit from the MRA as the on-line gaming community expands.

Screen Shots Updated

I have updated the screen shot pages with the new screens plus I have added more details on what each option enables you to do.

International Modemleague Federation-ladder opening soon

I've received the following from Mark over at IMF.

"We've recently opened a site called IMF for FIFA2000/99, link on right. We organise an international modemleague for winners from all the national modemleagues. National leagues from Greece, Cyprus, Netherlands, France, Brasil have already joined and the winner from each league will participate in the Worldleague, a tournament in wich IMF will pay the telephonefares. We are still looking for people who want to participate and whe're looking for modemleagues who want to participate."

If you are interested visit Mark's site and I'm sure he'd love to hear from you.

15/10/1999 - I have added a file to the download section which is a copy of my additional leagues directory structure and sample leagues as an example for anyone to have a look at.

Please, still had no feedback - have a look below and send us a mail - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

14/10/1999 - Hi, I'm back after a few days away at national conference. Not too much to report at the mo except we are desperately looking for feedback on peoples views/feelings on the MRA.

I am also currently in the process of developing a paper on the future development path for the MRA, so any details you provide me can be fed into this document. Our aim is for every user of the FIFA series to have a version of the MRA installed to assist with their use of multiple leagues/add-ons. Please help us to achieve this.

09/10/1999 pm - There will be no updates until Wednesday as I will be unable to update the page. If you have any issues in the meantime please post a message on the forum.

LIFE SO SWEDE FOR KEEGAN'S ENGLAND
- Thank You Sweden

Kevin Keegan's England are still in the hunt for a place in Euro 2000 next summer after Sweden beat Poland 2-0 in Stockholm to send England through to the play-off draw next Tuesday. Late goals from Kennet Andersson and Henrik Larsson left King Kev enthusing and joking: "A thousand thanks to Sweden - this jumper was black before the game started, now it's gone grey."

09/10/1999 am - Latest version of MRA 1.0b launched which has an added feature for providing a Log file which can be e-mailed to the development team if you are having problems with the MRA.

If you are having any problems with the MRA, please first check that you have no files in either your main FIFA 99 directories or your additional leagues directories with Read-Only attributes set and that you are running the latest version of the MRA, i.e. 1.0b. If you still have a problem then please either:

  • preferably select the 'Create Log' button on the Settings tab
  • or, if you cannot launch the MRA at all, download the Support Utility

Both of these options will create files which will enable you to provide the development team with the details they require to help diagnose any problems with the MRA.

08/10/1999 am - I would like to take this opportunity to thank my partner in crime, Jamie Gilbert, who has been the programming mastermind behind this project. Many thanks Jamie from myself, and everyone who has used the utility I am sure.

If you have downloaded the MRA and are having difficulties, please do not dispare, it does work. If you have a support issue, post a message on the forum or e-mail me and I will respond to it. We are committed to making this work - please help us to achieve that.

If you have downloaded the MRA and are benefiting from it, we would love to hear from you. Please take a minute to send us your thanks, or observations. We have had 1400 visitors in 4 days and 5 e-mails to-date. Please make us happy bunnies and let us know what you think, good or bad - Thanks.

06/10/1999 pm - The first full release version 1.0a of the FIFA-MRA has been released this evening at only 18Kb!. This release addresses all bugs which have been reported from beta testers and ensures a far more robust version. Issues resolved include:

  • There was a problem where some files in FIFA99 or the additional leagues folders had read only properties, this stopped the MRA from copying the files and crashed with an error code 'Permission denied'
  • If you reorganised your directory structure after you have loaded the MRA it will now default the Root League Directory back to C:\Program Files\EA Sports\FIFA99 if the previously set directory has been moved/deleted. This used to cause the MRA to crash as it could no longer recognise the root directory
  • FIFA99 can now be launched effectively from the MRA

Please visit the download page to obtain your latest release of this exciting and effective utility.

Also, if you are looking to play in a modem league, there is a new one in the UK run by Karl Whitehouse, please click on the link on the right to the FIFA99 ESP League if you are interested as he is looking for players.

06/10/1999 am - I would like to thank everybody who has downloaded the MRA, 450 in 2 days, and to those people who have reported issues with it. The full version 1 is almost complete which addresses these issues and will be avilable in the next day or so. Please return here for updates.

If you have downloaded the MRA and are having difficulties, please do not dispare, it does work, it might just be an issue with your directory structure or with read only files. Please refer to further down this page for an explaination of how the directories need to be structured. Otherwise, post a message on the forum or e-mail me and I will respond to it. We are committed to making this work - please help us to achieve that.

If you have downloaded the MRA and are benefiting from it, we would love to hear from you. Please take a minute to send us your thanks, or observations. We have had 1000 visitors in 2 days and 3 e-mails to-date. Please make us happy bunnies and let us know what you think, good or bad - Thanks.

Chelsea v Man U

Celebrate - a Good Time, Let's Celebrate
Final Score 5-0

04/10/1999 - Well what a day I've just had. FIFA-MRA released and Chelsea beat Man United 5-0, absolutely unbelievable!

Something that I failed to point out when I released the MRA is that the initial version enables you to easily use and copy in multiple leagues, if you play in different Modem Leagues. For this to be achieved you need to ensure that your Modem League files are maintained under a separate directory for each league and that each leagues directory has the same structure as FIFA99, i.e. as a minimum you need to have the data/cmn/fe and user directories present as the MRA just does a straight copy of these directories into the FIFA99 game directories.

The obvious benefits of this are that you can even have different kits and stadiums with leagues without having multiple copies of FIFA installed. Here is an example of my directory structure:

FIFA99/data
FIFA99/user
FIFA99/Additional Leagues/FA Premiership/data/cmn/fe
FIFA99/Additional Leagues/FA Premiership/user
FIFA99/Additional Leagues/FIFA Backup/data/cmn/fe
FIFA99/Additional Leagues/FIFA Backup/user

For your information, on day one the MRA has been downloaded nearly 200 times. I have so far only received one query so hopefully everything is going ok. There will be updates to this utility as functionality is added so please return here on a regular basis for the latest news.

If you have any support requirements relating to the MRA please could you first post them on the forum on the left where I have posted an original thread under 'FIFA Multi Roster Assistant Launched'. If this does not address your problem soon enough then please feel free to e-mail or contact me on ICQ 37379464

03/10/1999 - It's here, at last the FIFA-MRA is released. Please go to the downloads section to obtain your version of this life changing utility! I hope this utility enhances your use of the FIFA series, especially if you play in multiple leagues which require different files loading. Please feel free to provide any feedback to me with comments, constructive criticisms and solutions that you feel would enhance the effectiveness of this utility.

If you encountered problems earlier trying to download FIFA-MRA, they have now been fixed - Sorry about that.

01/10/1999 - Sorry for the delay in releasing the MRA but work comittments, etc... unfortunately have to take priority. I have completed the final testing this evening of the 1st release of the utility. This should be released tomorrow and will be an early beta of the utility, as we wanted to release a version that would provide immediate benefit to the majority of users, which I think we have achieved. The utility will be updated as new features are added, so please check back to the website on a regular basis for the latest news.
