World League Patch is cancelled

Wow - what is this? Bad news from Soccer Access, surely not? It is you know!

The bad news is that the World League is cancelled. The problem is that there are only two guys working on this (Fede with kits and Ariel with all the rest) and they really don´t have the time to go on with the patch. Kits will be uploaded to FIFA Express so at least you can enjoy Fede´s work.

Check over at Soccer Access daily for all their positive and completed work.

Chelsea close in on Newcastle as Champions League race heats up

Chelsea kept their drive for a Champions League place on track with a dramatic 3-2 win over Terry Venables' Leeds. A brilliant Eidur Gudjohnsen strike was the highlight of a spirited display as the Blues twice came from behind before snatching the three points through a Dominic Matteo own goal eight minutes from the end.

The win keeps Claudio Ranieri's side, two points clear of Everton, who maintained their own push for a place in Europe by beating Bolton 2-1. It left Leeds embattled manager shaking his head in frustration as his side failed to win for the third successive match.

Leeds had stunned the home side by going ahead with their first attack of the match. Goalkeeper Paul Robinson's long clearance was flicked on by Mark Viduka for fellow Australian Harry Kewell, who chested the ball down before superbly poking it past Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini.

In the second half Chelsea upped the ante in their search for an equaliser and Cole did well to wriggle free of Mills and Matteo after 53 minutes before sending his shot from the edge of the area just inches over the crossbar. It was a sign of what was to come with Gudjohnsen producing a magnificent leveller for Chelsea just three minutes later. Frank Lampard crossed from the right and Gudjohnsen powered in a spectacular 12-yard overhead kick low to the right of Robinson.

Leeds almost retook the lead on 64 minutes when Viduka turned smartly in the penalty area but saw his shot saved well by Cudicini. The Yorkshire side had to wait only another 60 seconds however to regain the advantage. Alan Smith's corner from the right was touched on at the near post by Kewell and Sweden defender Teddy Lucic reached the ball before Cudicini and stabbed the ball in from a yard out.

Despite Venables introducing Middlesbrough target Seth Johnson to the game a minute after the goal, they could not hold the lead. Robinson palmed out a 80th-minute cross by substitute Boudewijn Zenden only as far as Lampard, who atoned for his earlier miss by sweeping the ball back via a deflection into the net from just inside the area.

Chelsea won the game three minutes later when Gudjohnsen released Lampard in the area and his shot was going wide until the unfortunate Matteo turned it into his own net. "You can't blame Dom for that. It can happen to anyone." a generous Venables said afterwards. Lampard for his part declared somewhat ambitiously he would be claiming Matteo's effort as his. "I haven't scored enough goals this season so you bet I will be claiming them!" he said.

- Requires extensive editing otherwise too easy for long-time WE/PE veterans
- Not as good as J-League Winning Eleven 6
- Commentary is laughably bad

How to play?
It's really easy, contact FIFA Belgium and write 3 team names in order of preference.

What you win?

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

Up and at 'em
After two weeks of trying to get his man, Steve Bruce finally looks set to sign Arsenal defender Matthew Upson. The initial fee is thought to be £1m but that could eventually rise to £3m.

Will Robson ever get Wood?
The rumour mill suggests Newcastle are ready to up their bid for Jonathan Woodgate. Meanwhile the 'Fowler to City' story drags on. If City can meet his wage demands he could be at Maine Road again this week.

Tim turns down Pompey again
Tim Sherwood's got less chance of making a Spurs starting XI than Sergei Rebrov. But the midfielder continues to snub attempts by Portsmouth to sign him. West Brom are also keen on Sherwood.

Not the ticket
The odds on Martin O'Neill becoming the next Man. Utd manager have probably shortened given that Mark Hughes has committed himself to the Welsh team for another four years.

All out
Last week they backed him, this week they've sacked him. Graham Allner's been given the boot by Cheltenham. Perhaps the graffiti of 'Allner Out' painted on the club's car park walls was the clincher...

You Watts
Although Steve Watts went on loan to Lincoln with a view to a permanent deal, the striker has returned to Leyton Orient given that Lincoln have no money to make permanent deals...

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

To the power of one
Despite saying the club need a striker and a centre-back, Sam Allardyce reckons Bolton can only afford to buy one player. Yet Allardyce continues to knock back attempts by Spurs to sign Michael Ricketts.

The Bell tolls
Craig 'Premiership' Bellamy has finally put pen to paper and signed a deal that could keep him at Newcastle until 2007.

Morientes knocks back Spurs again....
Tottenham are set to miss out on the loan signing of Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes, who is expected to reject the move. His agent says Morientes does not want to go on loan.

Not the ticket
Simon Jordan has announced his intention to cash in on the visit of Liverpool January 26th. Despite the cash injection that the Sky coverage will provide, Jordan has increased prices for non season ticket holders by 50%.

Dacourt demands a refund
Terry Venables once said that he'd drive Olivier Dacourt to Italy to sign for somebody else. Now Dacourt's gone to Roma he's sending Venables his airline ticket in return Venables footing the bill.

Logan's done
Hull City's number one priority is to sign a new striker. The question is, who will it be? Luke Beckett? Marco Gabbiadini? Andy Thomson? The speculation is mounting...

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

Ricketts raid by Spurs?
The Evening Standard has today again linked Bolton's Michael Ricketts with Spurs in a possible cash plus player deal. Apparently it could see Ben Thatcher going to The Reebok. If that's the best Glenn can do the deal's surely off...

Wilkinson looks east
Sunderland boss Howard Wilkinson is to have a look at Japanese World Cup star Kazuyuki Toda as he attempts to strengthen his squad. Toda will train with the squad for a fortnight.

Speaking in Tonges
Meanwhile, Liverpool are still interested in Blades midfielder Michael Tonge. He said: "Of course, I'm aware that Liverpool have sent scouts to watch me play this season, which is incredibly flattering for someone as early in their career as I am."

Farnborough's loss, Gillingham's gain?
Should Farnborough get their game against Arsenal switched to Highbury, then Sky may consider screening the Gillingam-Leeds game instead meaning a £265,000 windfall for the Gills.

Borrowed time
Rob Newman's days as Southend boss could be numbered unless the team's fortune change very soon. Chairman Ron Martin has said either the club needs to clearout some players or get a new man in.

Charity begins at home
A local businessman has this week pledged £125,000 to the club to help pay off the PFA loan which is currently preventing Bournemouth from signing players. The money, which will come from a property deal could be released to the club in March.

Faith in Healey
After being linked with him longer than Nathan Blake and Dean Saunders it turns out that Everton are genuinely in talks for Celtic's Colin Healy and the deal could be concluded today.

Dacourt's Roman Holiday
Terry Venables may well be cracking open the champagne and getting on the karaoke machine as we type. Olivier Dacourt has finally completed his loan move Roma.

'Mann about Town
According to reports, Birmingham have tried to get Ipswich defender Hermann Hreidarsson on loan but the Division One club wanted hard cash and unsuccessfully tried to sell Hreidarsson to Steve Bruce for £2.5m.

Alpay still at Villa
It seems like only a few days ago Villa defender Alpay was saying he'd done a deal with a 'big Premiership club'. In fact it was on Monday. Three days on and Graham Taylor's revealed there is on deal and won't rule out picking him again.

One out, Allner Out
'Allner Out' banners have been appearing at Cheltenham games. Chairman Paul Baker said: "This club have had more success in the last five years than any other club in the country and perhaps they're being a bit spoiled."

Logan's done
Boston Chairman Des Wood has stated that the cash to sign Richard Logan from Ipswich is available and a deal is close to completion.

Soccer Access World League Project

Soccer Access have decided to make what they call the World League. This tournament will include 16 teams, and they'll be 'fantasy' teams and will represent some of the most important leagues in the world:

  • Brasil, Mexico, Argentina, MLS, Uruguay, Spain, Italy, England, France, Germany, Portugal, Holland-Belgium, Sweden, Israel, Korea and Turkey.

For example, the FA Premier League will join players like Beckham, Henry and Owen. LFP team (Spain) will include players like Raul, Kluivert and Aimar. Well this is the idea.

Screenshots Click for larger image Click for larger image

The patch will include:

  • a new intro cinematic (and some more)
  • new popups (see screenshot)
  • menus
  • and will use the Tango System

But they need your help. So they have opened a new topic at Soccer Access forums named "World League Teams" where they need you to post your favourite 11 players of each league. They'll base the rosters on your votes. Today is the last day to post your teams and they are counting the votes and this weekend will publish the definitive rosters for every team.

You can also vote for 5 songs to be included in this patch. This sounds too good to be true. Ariel and his team go from strength to strength over at Soccer Access, what will they come up with next?

Full details of this patch can be found in our Patches Database.

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

More Rooney rubbish?
Everton's Head of Corporate Affairs and PR, Ian Ross, is being kept busy. Yesterday he had to rubbish the Rooney-Real story, now he's hit back at reports suggesting talks with Rooney over a new deal have hit a snag over image rights.

The words 'shop' and 'window'....
Hakin Yakin has said both Celtic and Liverpool are interested in signing him. The Basle midfielder gave both clubs a torrid time in Europe.

Another one out of Elland Road?
Seth Johnson, arguably David O'Leary's poorest signing, has been linked with a move to Middlesbrough. Then again, who isn't. A fee of £3.5m has been conjured up for the injury-prone midfielder.

Can Lynch haul Preston out of depression?
Fans were calling for Craig Brown's heads after Preston were dumped out of the cup by Rochdale. Now Brown's signed Celtic's young striker Simon Lynch to help haul the club up the table.

Safety first
The Football Association today re-iterated that cup ties can only be switched on "safety and security issues'' - and not for financial gain. The news comes after Farnborough revealed the club is hoping to switch their tie with Arsenal to Highbury.

Not now John
John Collins' agent has revealed that the Fulham midfielder turned down a loan move to Nottingham Forest three weeks ago. Raymond Sparkes added there have been no subsequent offers for Collins.

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

Rooney Real Rubbish shock
In a shock turn of events it transpires that Everton haven't given Real Madrid first option on Wayne Rooney. Fancy that story being cobblers. It seemed so plausible. Will this affect the bid to get McManaman on loan? He's a big Blue you know...

Jimmy, Jimmy....
The Hasselbaink to Barcelona stories appear to have been laid to rest for this season at least. According to reports in Spain, Hasselbaink's agent says there's been no contact from Barca and the Catalan club are massively in debt.

Alpay off to 'biggest club in England'
Has the Villa defender got the two Manchester clubs confused? Alpay claims a deal has been done to take him to the 'biggest club in England' but he's refusing to say who it is. The smart money says it could well be Newcastle United.

Pompey set to shatter transfer record
Pompey are set to pay some £4m for Nigerian striker Yakubu Ayegbeni provided they get promoted. He's signed on loan til the end of the season, but the club must wait for a work permit and Derby were refused one for the same player in the summer.

The Taming of the Chelsea?
Chelsea's chief executive, Trevor Birch, used to play for Shrewsbury. He'll return to Gay Meadow with Chelsea as they meet the Shrews in the fourth round. Meanwhile, the Blues' Jesper Gronkjaer has admitted he's not worthy of as first team place.

Ticket to (be taken for a) ride?
Scunthorpe fans are still a bit miffed the ticket situation for the Leeds game. The main question is why the capacity of the ground is 9,500, the game was a sell-out, there wasn't a spare seat in the house yet the official attendance was 8,300.

Liverpool look to Owen
It's still not confirmed if Michael Owen will play at Manchester City on Sunday. Danny Murphy returns from suspension but Didi Hamann is definitely ruled out. Meanwhile, Liverpool's chief exec Rick Parry has given his backing to Gerard Houllier.

Can a Gooner help knock out United?
Arsenal defender Stathis Tavlaridis steps into the breach left by Arjan De Zeeuw's injury by signing on loan for a month. He goes straight into the squad for the FA Cup game at Old Trafford.

Unhappy New Year for Ipswich staff
Town have cut their non-playing staff by 15% in another attempt to cut costs. Ironically, chairman David Sheepshanks conceded that off-field business has largely "been a major success story and the staff have in many ways been unsung heroes."

Hod's got that vibe
Born again Glenn Hoddle has revealed there is a "positive vibe" in the Tottenham camp as they prepare to return to Southampton for their FA Cup third-round clash. Simon Davies is the main doubt for tomorrow's match.

Luton can't stand it
Luton Town have been told that a new crack down by the Football League on supporters who stand in seated areas could result in the closure of some parts of Kenilworth Road by the local authority if action isn't taken.

The Magic of the cup pt II
When the new Wembley finally opens all FA Cup semi-finals will be staged there. Wembley spokesman Nick Barron admitted it wouldn't be a wholly popular decision but it was made as a matter of 'financial necessity'.

Sweetpatch's New Year Soccer Snippets

Loan deal is Said and done
Everton have signed two players on loan. The first is US forward Brian McBride, who played for Moyes at Preston. The other is Egyptian defender Ibrahim Said.

When will Fredi be ready?
It's the question that's baffling West Ham. Manager Glenn Roeder has no idea when forward Fredi Kanoute will be fully fit again and said: "He is apparently still not confident about the groin."

From Les Bleus to The Blues
Christophe Dugarry has completed his move to Birmingham City. But Steve Bruce may also be on the lookout for a defender with Jeff Kenna just about the only one at the back who is fit to play.

Tannoy annoys managers
The managers of Reading and Leicester were already angry that their match was abandoned at half-time but they were furious when the PA announcer stated they had agreed for the match to be called off. Royals boss Alan Pardew said: "Heads will roll."

Green light after red card
Getting sent off this week wasn't the best way to get an extension to a loan, but Leam Richardson has done enough during his four-match spell at Blackpool to warrant staying at club until the end of the season.

Stags appeal
Mansfield are considering an appeal against Iyseden Christie's dismissal at Crewe. Assistant manager John Gannon said: "We will look at the sending-off on the video as I felt it was a bit harsh."

In the start of the new year 2003 me Amir Elmeligi and the FIFA-EGYPT's Website team work are wishing you a happy new year.

And wishing Sweetpatch and all the community to get better and better and wishing peace to spread in the whole world.

And we are in FIFA-EGYPT preparing a surprise for all FIFA 2003 fans for the Celebration of the new year. Head to the site and pay it a visit every day and wait for this surprise and wait for more quality downloads from there. Happy new year 2003.
