English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you all the latest news from last night's games in the English Premiership.

Portsmouth 0 v 0 Middlesbrough
The Fratton Park faithful were left disappointed for the second straight home game as Portsmouth were held to a goalless draw by Middlesbrough.

Reading 3 v 2 Wigan Athletic
Wigan Athletic's woes continued as Reading came from behind to inflict a ninth successive defeat on Paul Jewell's side - an unwanted new club record. The Latics - last year’s great success story - remain teetering on the brink of the Barclays Premiership drop zone after goals from Ivar Ingimarsson, Shane Long and Leroy Lita set up a home success.

Sheffield United 2 v 0 Fulham
Jon Stead and Michael Tonge ended personal goal droughts to lift Sheffield United seven points clear of the Barclays Premiership relegation zone.

West Ham United 1 v 2 Liverpool
Dirk Kuyt and Peter Crouch scored the goals for Liverpool at Upton Park as West Ham United failed to find the spark to fire their Barclays Premiership relegation battle. Kuyt stunned the hosts with a spectacular strike 12 seconds into the second half and Crouch then celebrated his 26th birthday by finding the top corner and sealing the points after a flowing Reds move. Kepa Blanco, on loan from Sevilla, came off the bench and scored two minutes into his debut to offer hope but Liverpool held on for their third away win in a row, leaving West Ham still in the bottom three.

Carling Cup Semi Final News - Tottenham Hotspur 2 v 2 Arsenal

Carling Cup Semi Final News - Tottenham Hotspur 2 v 2 Arsenal Julio Baptista went from zero to hero for Arsenal as they held Tottenham in an absorbing Carling Cup semi-final first-leg tie at White Hart Lane.

Dimitar Berbatov gave Spurs the lead heading in after a mix-up between Manuel Almunia and Kolo Toure. They made it 2-0 when Baptista knocked the ball into his own net from Tom Huddlestone's free-kick.

But Baptista fired in from six yards to reduce the deficit, before being fed by Justin Hoyte for a simple tap-in.

Carling Cup Semi Final News - Chelsea 4 v 0 Wycombe

Carling Cup Semi Final News - Chelsea 4 v 0 WycombeChelsea will contest the fourth League Cup Final in their history after a pair of goals each from Andriy Shevchenko and Frank Lampard made overcoming Wycombe Wanderers a straightforward task.

League Two opposition it may have been but you can't undervalue the effect of goals on the morale of a striker. A cold night will have been a warming experience for Shevchenko who was good value for his first-half brace.

Beating a League Two side at home for a place in a cup final wasn't the most difficult task ever placed in front of this Chelsea side but on an enjoyable night, it was job well done nevertheless and well done also to Wycombe for doing themselves proud over the 2 legs.

English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you all the latest news from last night's game in the English Premiership.

Watford 2 v 1 Blackburn Rovers
Substitute Jay DeMerit's second-half header gave Watford renewed hope of avoiding relegation as they tasted Barclays Premiership victory for only the second time with a home win over Blackburn Rovers. Brett Emerton’s early own goal had given the home side hope that it might turn out to be their day and so it proved even though Benni McCarthy equalised in first-half stoppage time. There was more bad news for Blackburn boss Mark Hughes as Robbie Savage was stretchered off early in the second half with a broken leg and McCarthy was hurt too.

Bundesliga chants packs and news

CEP Career Expansion PatchEsterry released a set of three new chants packs for the CEP Chants Addon: this is the time of Germany 1. Bundesliga with three packs for a total of 400 mb (!) of chants, anthems and crowds for all the teams of the german first division! Go to download this wonderful sounds addons for your fifa in the Chants Addon section of CEP website.

In the meanwhile the work status has been updated deeply: mainly I'm working on the rosters update for the winter market, and at the same time to Miniheads addon (the teams updated receive miniheads during the update): the leagues to be updated with the winter transfers are the ones present in the original game together with the most important added, while the other will be updated in the summer period. In the meanwhile Esterry is organizing the tons of material received for the 4.0 release , creating new leagues and teams; another chief member has joined us with the responsability of southamerican football: he's Brfifa07, from Brazil, and we hope he will help the project as Esterry did during these months. About the releases dates: the 4.0 version will be the definitive one for Fifa 2007 and, most important, it will be the last CEP update adding something, after the 4.0 the work will be to update what we already have in the game (this is why we need good teams of updaters). I want to release a 3.2 update during the first 10 days of February with all the bugs-fixing segnalated, a lot of db contributions received and of course the update of the rosters with the transfers of this month.

Very soon we'll have a tutorial section here at CEP website performing video tutorials (mainly with Adobe Photoshop) showing how to realize kits, minikits, heads etc. starting from templates that I will provide personally: in this way I hope that more people will join us with their passion and their detailed contributions because everyone, just with passion, can improve the wonderful 2007 edition of the EA game. Stay tuned here on Sweetpatch and be sure to write by mail (fifaock@yahoo.it) your submission as updaters if you want to help us updating your favourite team/league!

UEFA Champions League™ 2006-2007 News - Xbox 360 Hands-on

UEFA Champions League™ 2006-2007 News - Xbox 360 Hands-onIGN bring us one of the first previews on the Net for UEFA Champions League™ 2006-2007 for the Xbox 360.

To summarise their preview:

  • UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 is hands down the most gorgeous soccer game to date and it's not even finished yet.
  • While the game runs on a modified version of the FIFA 07 engine, which was disappointing, to say the least, UEFA is making modest improvements over its predecessor.
  • The team that handled the impressive 2006 FIFA World Cup is at the helm this go around and we've already seen some of its influence. For instance:
    • The passing game has been improved -- or is it corrected? -- so that you can now hold down the short pass button and hit a teammate a longer distance and the through pass has been tweaked as well.
    • In the air, it's much improved and it's a bit easier to lead strikers into space.
    • On the ground, the lead pass still needs works as you can't bypass one teammate and hit the next one by holding down the Y button, which would be particularly useful in scoring situations.
    • Off the pitch, the team also implemented a challenge mode similar to World Cup.
  • Back to the graphics:
    • The frame-rate and the animations are excellent in UEFA -- no more dropped frames like in FIFA.
    • With a revamped lighting system and adjusted cameras, some of the smooth animations look almost photorealistic.
    • The player models and faces looked great in gameplay, but they still retain that sort of plastic look in cutscenes.

Check out their full preview by clicking here.

English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you all the latest news from yesterday's games in the English Premiership.

Aston Villa 2 v 0 Watford
Aston Villa showed just why they need to sign Watford striker Ashley Young as they spurned a host of chances before Gavin Mahon's 86th-minute own goal and Gabriel Agbonlahor’s 91st-minute strike handed the Villans a 2-0 win over the Hornets.

Bolton Wanderers 0 v 0 Manchester City
Vincenzo Montella’s late penalty was not enough for 10-man Fulham to claim victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in a 1-1 draw. Montella’s 84th-minute spot-kick followed Michael Dawson’s handball before Pascal Chimbonda (88) scored a late equaliser.

Liverpool 2 v 0 Chelsea
Liverpool put a major dent in Chelsea's Barclays Premiership title aspirations with a comfortable 2-0 win at Anfield in the day's early kick-off. Rafael Benitez’s side raced into a two-goal lead inside 20 minutes thanks to Dirk Kuyt’s cool finish in the fourth minute and Jermaine Pennant’s dipping volley (20).

Manchester City 0 v 3 Blackburn Rovers
Two stunning goals from Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen helped bring the curtain down on Manchester City’s recent revival. Pedersen struck before half-time with a powerful header and then followed up on the hour with a sweeping free-kick before substitute Matt Derbyshire completed the triumph in the 90th minute for a 3-0 win.

Middlesbrough 5 v 1 Bolton Wanderers
Middlesbrough romped to a 5-1 victory over 10-man Bolton Wanderers at the Riverside after a goal-packed first half. Boro scored in the sixth minute when Gary Speed turned the ball into his own net, Abel Xavier (10) made it two, Mark Viduka (23) added a third and Stewart Downing (44) cracked a stunning fourth, with Kevin Nolan’s 25th-minute effort scant consolation for Wanderers. To make matters worse striker El-Hadji Diouf was dismissed for dissent after the break and Viduka (84) added a fifth.

Newcastle United 2 v 2 West Ham United
Newcastle United came back from two goals down to claim a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at St James’ Park. The Hammers went ahead when Carlton Cole (19) finished after a corner caused chaos and Marlon Harewood (23) turned Peter Ramage to double the lead before James Milner’s cross-cum-shot (45) handed Newcastle a lifeline. The home side levelled matters when Nolberto Solano slotted home a 53rd-minute penalty following Luis Boa Morte’s needless handball, while Calum Davenport had a headed goal disallowed for climbing and Solano’s deflected shot struck the post.

Portsmouth 0 v 1 Charlton Athletic
Charlton Athletic snatched a crucial 1-0 win at Portsmouth thanks to Amady Faye’s late effort.

Reading 3 v 1 Sheffield United
Reading beat Sheffield United 3-1 in a fiery encounter at the Madejski Stadium which saw Blades manager Neil Warnock red-carded. Both sides struggled to create chances before Shane Long (44) side-footed home off a post following good work from Steve Sidwell and Ulises de la Cruz doubled the lead five minutes after the break. United substitute Keith Gillespie was sent off seconds after coming on for lashing out at Stephen Hunt while his manager Warnock and Royals coach Wally Downes followed as tempers threatened to boil over. Hunt (70) added a third after Sidwell’s effort was blocked on the line before Christian Nade (77) pulled one back.

Portugal chants packs and new recruitments at CEP

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe Career Expansion Patch project, thanks to Esterry, brings you two more chants pack for the CEP Chants Addon section of our patch: this is the time of Portugal teams chants, in two parts. The first one, of about 72 mb contains chants for Academica Coimbra, Boavista Porto, Belenenses, Maritimo Funchal, Deportivo Aves, Pacos Ferreira, SC Braga and SC Beira Mar while the second, with 100 mb, has chants and anthems for FC Porto, Naval 1 Maio, SL Benfica, Sporting Lisboa, Uniao Leiria, Vitoria Setubal, Rio Ave FC, Leixoes, Gil Vicente and Vitoria Guimaraes. So jump to the CEP Chants Addon section of CEP to read the usual instructions and to download the packs you want!

The CEP offer of entertainment, as everyone can notice, is growing wider and larger, bringing to you improvements and expansions for every aspect of the game: for this season the satisfaction of the CEP team is greater thanks to the quality of the game that is more stable and finely realized being, in our personal opinion, the best football simulation ever realized: our sincere compliments to the EA, hoping that they will take in consideration a renewal of the poor database management system. In the meanwhile I've found a solution for the fifa.fat limitation that opens new limits for the growing of the CEP project: most probably we will start realizing heads packs for single teams in the immediate future that will improve much more the quality of the game. As always this will be possible only with the collaboration of the thousands of fan of the CEP project around the world that with their passion for football can help us bringing to the fifa community a product as complete as it's possible.

So it's time for new "recruitments" here at CEP project, a new brazilian friend most probably will join me, Esterry and Jose Delgado as "chief members" of the patch, doing a great part of the work, but we still need people who want to dedicate their time to this hobby: our doors are open to the editors who want to join us in this adventure: joining the efforts is the key to revolutionate this game. What we need now are:

1) Facemakers who want to collaborate to the project of CEP Face Packs: dynamic addons that the user can add and switch during the game (to avoid fifa.fat limitation) that contains faces for a single team: for example, I'm playing a career with Osasuna in Spain and I've realized all the 24 faces of the rosters, in a single addon: now that I'm playing with this team I'm using this pack, but I will switch to another one when I'll change the squad; and so I can "turn on" the Real Zaragoza face pack when I have to play against them and so on.. So, if you are a facemaker and want to collaborate with us just contact me at fifaock@yahoo.it: you can keep the downloads of your facepacks on your site/forum, I'll just pack them in a special format for a single team being compatible with the future Face Manager for CEP and link them on our downloads page.

2) Updaters for each country included in the CEP patch: with the 4.0 release we will stop adding leagues and teams, and so the work for the future will be just to update the rosters, the kits, doing the promoted teams etc. etc. But to do this in time and with success we need people able to send us updates about transfers, new young, new talents, physical appearances to change, abilities to increase/decrease websites to gather informations etc. The updaters can do this through Rinaldo's Creation Master, or just writing us mails, sending pictures and links, etc: They will be responsable for just one country (i.e. an updater for Belgium leagues, one for England divisions and so on) and they just have to assure their "work" during the summer period and on winter transfers. If we are able to create a group of stable updaters the level of quality of the CEP will be increased a lot. So I'm waiting for your candidations at fifaock@yahoo.it :)

FIFA 07 News - What is the best controller for playing FIFA 07?

FIFA 07 News - What is the best controller for playing FIFA 07?I've noticed recently throughout the FIFA community a lot of discussions around which controllers are best for playing FIFA 07 on the PC.

We've researched it for you and the Logitech Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback Gamepad seems to come out top in your estimations. Some of the community feedback we found includes:

  • I'm using the Logitech Rumblepad 2. It is simply the best out there in the market for the PC!
  • The Rumblepad 2 controller (get the corded one rather than the cordless ... the cordless one is not worth the extra money + having to buy batteries every month);
  • I'll just add my weight behind the Logitech Rumblepad 2. I'll also second the opinion that a corded controller is the way to go. I bought a couple of cordless Thrustmaster controllers after having some success with their wired controller and they gave me nothing but trouble in comparison with the wired one.

So are you still using a standard gamepad? Then you're missing out on a whole extra dimension in gaming: vibration feedback. Grab the Logitech Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback Gamepad and feel what you've been missing. It uses not one but two vibration feedback motors, weighted differently and spinning independently, to let you experience every turn, bump, dip, and crash. And it feels great in your hands with its familiar button layout and all the controls you need to dominate.

Order yourself one today direct from our Sweetpatch Shop by clicking here and then follow the menu to:

English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you all the latest news from this weekend's games in the English Premiership.

Saturday 13th January

Blackburn Rovers 0 v 2 Arsenal
A goal of breathtaking quality goal from Thierry Henry saw Arsenal make light of Gilberto's early red card to earn a valuable victory at Blackburn Rovers. Kolo Toure’s excellent header from Henry’s free-kick had given Arsenal the half-time lead at Ewood Park, and then the Frenchman took centre stage in the second.

Bolton Wanderers 0 v 0 Manchester City
Joey Barton wasted a glorious chance to secure Manchester City's fourth straight win as a low-key Lancashire derby with Bolton Wanderers ended in stalemate at the Reebok Stadium.

Charlton Athletic 1 v 3 Middlesbrough
Charlton Athletic's predicament at the wrong end of the Barclays Premiership deepened as Middlesbrough came from behind to record their first away league win of the season at The Valley.

Chelsea 4 v 0 Wigan Athletic
Holland winger Arjen Robben was inspirational as Chelsea comfortably saw off Wigan Athletic to keep the pressure on leaders Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premiership. A first-half goal from Frank Lampard had put the champions in control and Robben added a second thanks to a defensive blunder from Kristofer Haestad in the 63rd minute. Six minutes later, Robben’s cross was turned into his own net by Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland and Drogba completed the scoring with a fourth in the 90th minute.

Manchester United 3 v 1 Aston Villa
Michael Carrick celebrated his first goal for Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson's side cemented their place at the top of the table.

Sheffield United 1 v 1 Portsmouth
Paul Gerrard and Claude Davis combined to produce a shocking mix-up that handed Portsmouth a point on a plate at Bramall Lane. Sheffield United looked set for victory to ease relegation worries after taking the lead from Stephen Quinn's 22nd-minute free-kick.

Watford 0 v 3 Liverpool
Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 3-0 hammering of Watford at Vicarage Road thanks to their new-look three-man strikeforce.

West Ham United 3 v 3 Fulham
French defender Philippe Christanval fired home Fulham's equaliser in a goalmouth scramble in the fourth minute of stoppage time to rob West Ham United of a vital victory. A double by Yossi Benayoun appeared to have put the Hammers in charge, but Christanval lashed home his first goal in English football to earn the visitors a hard-fought point. Zamora had levelled in the 28th minute with his 100th league goal and first in 19 appearances after Tomasz Radzinski’s opener but Brian McBride cancelled out Benayoun's first to keep Fulham in the game and Christanval sealed their sixth consecutive draw right at the death.

Sunday 14th January

Everton 1 v 1 Reading
Andy Johnson grabbed his ninth goal of the season to rescue a point for Everton at Goodison Park. Reading had taken the lead midway through the first half when Stephen Hunt’s header was turned into his own net by Everton defender Joleon Lescott. Reading threatened to grab a second on the break, but with Rocky star Sylvester Stallone watching from the directors’ box, Johnson forced a draw with a header nine minutes from time.

Tottenham Hotspur 2 v 3 Newcastle United
Midfielder Nicky Butt fired the winner as Newcastle United came from behind to stun Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. Paul Huntington's first goal for Newcastle had cancelled out Jermain Defoe’s opener before Dimitar Berbatov restored the lead in an end-to-end clash. Obafemi Martins produced a spectacular strike with 19 minutes left, before setting up Butt for the winner two minutes later, giving Newcastle hope of establishing themselves in mid-table.

CEP Chants first pack released!

CEP Career Expansion PatchJust a few hours after the release of the CEP Miniheads Addon, the CEP Team with Esterry is proud to present you the first pack of the long serie of audio addons featured by the CEP Chants Addon: this first pack includes the national anthems for all the 165 CEP national teams included in the Career Expansion Patch and we are uploading an incoming pack for the chants for 18 main national selections. Be sure to jump in the Chants section to read carefully how to install this addon and stay tuned on Sweetpatch CEP Homepage for further news and releases!

A little note for the ones who downloaded the CEP Chants patch in the previous hours: you have to redownload it in order to make Sound Master by Rinaldo fully compatible with the CEP Chants packs released by Esterry.

CEP Miniheads Addon 1.0 released!

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe first version of CEP Miniheads Addon has been released and is available on the Downloads page. This first release (1.0) adds 3500 miniheads to the game, covering the full rosters of Italian Serie A and B, German Bundesliga 1 and 2, Spanish Primera and Segunda and French Ligue 1; this addon is meant to be used with CEP expansion from the version 3.1 and upper (some of the miniheads will be showed correctly with the future 3.2 update): if you want to uninstall this addon just delete the directory "heads" inside data\gui as it's explained in the attached readme.

The Miniheads Addon is the first of the new conplementary projects to the CEP on which we are working on during this 2007: in the next days we'll be able to release the first part of the huge Chants Addon on which is working Esterry with great detail. In the meanwhile I've started the work on new 4.0 leagues and on the winter transfer updates: I think we will release a 3.2 version during the very first days of February with some market updates (only for the leagues already present in the original game, that will be the ones, each year, we will update with winter transfers too) and the final version 4.0 will be released during March. This 4.0 version for Fifa 2007 will contain the definitive number of leagues and competition that we want to implement in the CEP, so since the next season (Fifa2008), the work will be "only" to update the datas and to produce new "complementary" addons. As always you can check our Release section to see what it's planned for the future.

FA Cup News - Away Days With The Silkmen

FA Cup News - Away Days With The SilkmenSFTLA dedicated Macclesfield fan BraddersMacc brings you a brilliant report of his experience travelling to Stamford Bridge at the weekend for Macclesfield's big day out in the FA Cup 3rd round.

So finally, the game he had been waiting for years to come, the dream cup tie against big top flight opposition. Since the fateful draw was made on the 3rd December, when Amir Khan pulled that ball out, there has not been a minute or even second gone by when he has not been thinking about this game.

The Friday night before the big day he could barely sleep, he was like a kid on Christmas Eve. He got up bright and early at 7am, quickly got dressed and had a brew waiting for his mates. They made their way to Lyme Green business park, where all the coaches would depart from, lot's of police, stewards and supporters about, it was mental trying to find a coach!

Check out the great collection of photos and videos from this great day out for all Macclesfield fans by clicking here.

English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you the latest news from yesterday's games in the English Premiership.

Arsenal 4 v 0 Charlton Athletic
Arsenal moved back into the top four of the Barclays Premiership as returning talisman Thierry Henry inspired them to victory over 10-man Charlton Athletic. The Arsenal captain, playing his first match since being sidelined with a sciatic nerve problem at the end of November, opened the scoring for the Gunners from the penalty spot after Osei Sankofa was sent off for a professional foul and was heavily involved in goals for defender Justin Hoyte and in-form Holland striker Robin van Persie.

Aston Villa 0 v 0 Chelsea
Aston Villa damaged Chelsea's hopes of completing a Barclays Premiership title hat-trick by deservedly holding Jose Mourinho's side to a goalless draw at Villa Park. Chelsea failed to take advantage of Manchester United’s New Year's Day draw at Newcastle and are six points adrift of Sir Alex Ferguson’s side after the completion of the festive fixture programme.

English Premier League Review

English Premier League ReviewWe bring you the latest news from the New Years Day's games in the English Premiership.

Fulham 0 v 0 Watford
Watford survived a ferocious first-half onslaught in an incident-packed Barclays Premiership clash with Fulham to leave Craven Cottage with a point.

Liverpool 3 v 0 Bolton Wanderers
Liverpool started the new year in style with stunning strikes from Peter Crouch and Steven Gerrard lifting them to third in the Barclays Premiership table above Bolton Wanderers.

Manchester City 2 v 1 Everton
Georgios Samaras put 17 games of goalscoring frustration behind him to net the second-half double which allowed Manchester City to welcome the New Year on a winning note against Everton at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Middlesbrough 3 v 1 Sheffield United
Aiyegbeni Yakubu banished Middlesbrough's festive frustration with a second-half double as his side eased to a crucial victory over fellow strugglers Sheffield United.

Newcastle United 2 v 2 Manchester United
Teenager David Edgar snatched a precious point for Newcastle United as Manchester United were denied a nine-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premiership. The 19-year-old defender saw Paul Scholes deflect home his 77th-minute 30-yarder to deny Sir Alex Ferguson’s men a fourth successive league win. James Milner had blasted the Magpies in front with a 33rd-minute piledriver, but a Scholes double either side of half-time gave the visitors the upper hand. However, Glenn Roeder’s injury-hit side summoned up their last remaining resources as Edgar marked his home debut with his first senior goal for the club to spark a gritty rearguard action to the final whistle.

Portsmouth 1 v 1 Tottenham Hotspur
A half-time reshuffle and Steed Malbranque's header saved a point for Tottenham Hotspur at Fratton Park, but Martin Jol's side are still suffering Barclays Premiership travel sickness after just one away win all season in the league.

Reading 6 v 0 West Ham United
West Ham United suffered another blow in their bid for survival by getting thrashed at the Madejski Stadium by Reading. Brynjar Gunnarsson was given a free header for the opener before Stephen Hunt nodded in a second. Anton Ferdinand scored an own goal to extend the lead and Kevin Doyle added to the embarrassment for the relegation-threatened Hammers, with Leroy Lita and Doyle adding the fifth and sixth goals after the break.

Wigan Athletic 0 v 3 Blackburn Rovers
Wigan Athletic crashed to a fifth consecutive defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers to plunge their season into further trouble. A first-half own goal from Emile Heskey, a first for Rovers from Matt Derbyshire and a Benni McCarthy penalty handed the away side a comfortable win over their north-west neighbours.

Let us all strive to make 2007 a very positive year for FIFA gaming and help everybody maximise their benefits from their gaming activity. The world has many problems to face and a few silly fall outs in the FIFA community are completely insignificant in comparison.

Let's all aim for a year of positivity where everybody puts any previous grudges behind them and we all work and put our energy towards having a completely positive FIFA community experience.

Have a great 2007 and we hope you continue to enjoy your time with us during the year.
