Things can only get better for Ruud

Alex Ferguson says striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is getting better all the time, despite his magnificent return of 28 goals from his first 34 matches in English football.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy

The Manchester United manager believes that Van Nistelrooy still has room for improvement and is working as hard as ever on becoming a better all round player.

"I think he's humble enough to know he has to improve if he's going to be considered as one of the best,", Ferguson said, “I think he's starting to add an unpredictability to his game that all great goalscorers have. You don't know what he's going to do next and I think he knows himself that that is something he's working at."

"He's gone on another stride and we're quite surprised and quite happy about that. Everything is in front of him and when you see a player who has improved the way he has this season, you can only be optimistic." ,Ferguson added.

SoccergameZ News

Over at our partner site SoccergameZ they have a new site-feature and news of extra teams in World Cup 2002.

Firstly, SoccergameZ has exclusively received news about some extra teams that will be included in the next game of EA Sports: World Cup 2002. In WC 98 EA already included some not-qualified teams such as Canada and Russia. This time we could already see Ecuador's team on some screenshots of the new game. Holland will not be included in the extra-teams category.

The absence of the Dutch top team is caused by license problems. EA wanted to include Holland, but because the Dutch Football Association made problems about the license Holland will not be included. Fortunately we can announce the first WC 2002 patch: SoccergameZ will include the Dutch team by replacing another not qualified team who is in the game such as Ecuador!

Secondly, SoccergameZ have also added an English speaking forum. In this forum everyone now can discuss about Football in general, game-editing techniques, FifaFX, and their patches (Dutch Fifa Patch, Belgian Fifa Patch and Retropatch 97-98). It can be found by clicking here.

Check out all this great news over at SoccergameZ.

Ronaldo, the world is waiting

Inter Milan have announced that Ronaldo, the Brazilian superstar, is recovering well from his latest injury and will be back in contention in the mid of March.

Ronaldo recovering

The club allowed Ronaldo to travel to Brazil for treatmenst on the pulled leg muscle, and be guest of honor at the Rio de Janeiro carnival.

Ronaldo’s bad luck is striking again and again, after his 2nd comeback he was after injured again during Inter's Serie A match against Piacenza on December 23.

Inter have announced that the former World Player of the Year's return date had been established after the club’s doctor, Franco Combi, carried out tests on the player in Rio.

"We have worked out a technical and physical rehabilitation program, and everything is going well so far." Combi said.

Chelsea tribute for retired di Matteo

Chelsea have paid tribute to Roberto Di Matteo following the Italian's retirement. Di Matteo failed to recover from a triple fracture of a leg suffered against St Gallen in September 2000.

Chelsea managing director Colin Hutchinson said: "This is devastating news and we feel for Roberto. Not only was he an outstanding player for Chelsea but he is a genuine nice guy. He will rightly have a prominent place in Chelsea's history and we wish him and his family well for the future. He will always be welcome here."

The great man himself Roberto scored the fastest-ever cup final goal against Middlesbrough in 42 seconds in 1997 Roberto registered the solitary Wembley strike against Aston Villa in 2000

He will be remembered at Stamford Bridge as the integral man behind two triumphant FA Cup campaigns, in 1997 and 2000. He scored the fastest-ever cup final goal against Middlesbrough and registered the solitary Wembley strike against Aston Villa three years later.

Di Matteo said: "I have worked hard to get back but unfortunately I am still experiencing problems and I have had to face up to the situation that my playing days are over. I have loved my time at Chelsea and am glad to have played a part in bringing success to the club and fans who have always been great to me. It's been depressing, it's been terrible. It's a difficult moment in any player's life to have an injury like this".

"You have to fight every day to recover from something like that. It's been really bad but I've learned to deal with depression, frustration and anger, which I never really knew before. It made me realise that not everything is beautiful in life."

As a fan who witnessed both Roberto's FA Cup final goals live, I thank him personally for the memories and wish him every success in his life.

We know from your comments in the Patches Database that you are awaiting this patch with anticipation. Melvir has now sent me the full feature list of his forthcoming destruction_update 3.0. Let him tell you all about it.

Look what is coming soon...

Full features of destruction_update 3.0

  • destruction_update - Version 3.0 CREATED BY NONE OTHER THAN THE MAN, YOUR MAN, Melvir Singh from Singapore.
    • The MOST SUCCESSFUL AND ACCURATE UPDATE for Fifa2k2
  • English Premier League (EPL) - Superbly accurate and up to date. Team management, captains, kick takers, attacking strategies ALL upto date in the EPL!
  • Perfected Italian, Swedish, Scottish, German & Israeli leagues and the others based on transfers (They are fully updated using a global soccer transfer site).
  • Corrected transfers which were missed out by EA Sports as well as in the second version.
    • Added LOADS (around 75-80 more excluding those added in first 2 versions) of new players to the game, BOTH young and old!
  • Updated until 3rd of March 2002 - ALL world-wide transfers. (Not a single transfer for EVERY CLUB IN FIFA2002 left out, simply loved by fans in version 1.0 and 2.0)
  • Released players from their clubs & includes those who were transferred to clubs NOT available in Fifa2002.
  • Players statistics accurately changed - Improved teams according to real-life form : such as Roma, Chievo and many others improved and some made easier to beat )= .
  • EPL clubs now play according to their current form and overall ability - Teams such as Arsenal, Newcastle and on-form Man Utd (Top-three will be updated in March) are harder to play against now.
  • Due to the 28 teams restrictions, only the team management of the EPL could be altered and made playing MUCH MUCH MORE realistic N best of all COMPLETELY UPTO DATE!
  • Top charts at worldpatches.com(2.0 is currently the top file in worldpatches.com) for destruction_update 1.0 and 2.0 and expect destruction_update 3.0 to top charts this time at www.fifa-mra.com !

Full feature list of destruction_update 3.0 Gameplay Patch ( Included in the patch)

Gameplay - Once again EDITED exclusively by myself for all those gamers who want a MUCH more realistic feel to your Fifa. The gameplay patch (destruction_update 2.0) was improved drastically.

  • CPU doesn't take that many long shots, some will be saved some over the bar and seldom some hit the back of the net!
  • CPU builds their play slowly and VERY REALISTICALLY but surely they move the ball around and try getting some players in for 1 on 1s or maybe even headers and volleys from crosses!
  • CPU doesn't stay offside anymore, they themselves try THEIR BEST TO STAY ONSIDE!
  • Better and more realistic CPU and USER saves!
  • THE BEST PART - SCORING HAS A COMPLETELY DIFF FEELING NOW, SOFT AND HARD SHOTS MATTER. Ground shots and "Hasselbaink type shots" YOU CAN FEEL AND WATCH THE DIFFERENCE! Put too much power, and the ball may go over or hit the bar or saved by CPU keeper!
  • Attributes NOW MATTERS MORE!
  • NOW THE BALL rolls and feels very realistic. Ball velocity in the air (Ball Gravity) changed to real-life. Use long-balls to open up defences!
  • The second Major Improvement to shooting - Saves from CPU AND your own keeper is VERY REALISTIC now! Its not close to real-life, ITS REAL-LIFE AS IF you're on the pitch itself!
  • Feels so much more realistic its as if you're playing on the field being one of those players yourself!
  • Fatigue is more visible now, no more SOLO-LIKE goals as stamina runs out exactly like in real -life! Seldom you find a Giggs or Carlos in Fifa2002 now.
  • Injuries now come about, a clip of the knee or ankle might result in a 1 or 2 match injury! However, players are stronger TOO AND MORE AGGRESSIVE!
  • CPU fouls AND is "MUCH MORE AGGRESSIVE", brings you down and gives more free-kicks away!
  • Set-pieces such as EVEN throw-ins has been changed and it now gives a better feel to throw a long Gary Neville like into the box causing trouble for your opponents!
  • Easier to take free-kicks, some force fabulous saves or some may EVEN hit the back of the net after a BRILLIANT Beckham like curler!
  • Penalties are harder to score and save now. No more fake-penalties!
  • Improved AI and sliding tackles are harder to time without committing a foul!
  • Do NOT change the options as they have already been changed to make it as close to Real Life football as possible. However feel free in changing e detail level.
  • Expect this patch to be the BEST EVER PATCH YOU'VE EVER DOWNLOADED IN YOUR LIFE IN THE GAMING INDUSTRY!

Check back in a few weeks when this patch will be released. Full details as always can be found in the Patches Database. Join in the debate there about how good you think this patch will be - or not!

Latest news on Destruction_update 3.0

Melvir has informed us of the latest position with his Destruction_update 3.0 patch.

Look what is coming soon...

"These words will definitely send shivers down EA's spine. Many people would have known now that Destruction_update 1.0 and 2.0 both topped the charts at worldpatches.com and were a top hit among the Fifa community.

Ever since I left the Fifa 2002 forum, I've put together my time into developing an "Incredibly Realistic Gameplay Patch". I've tested many gameplay patches and taken note of their good points. But hell no I did not take any values from either patches! Instead I spent constant Sundays coming out with different values and have now compiled the "Most Realistic Gameplay Patch ever" played in any Fifa series.

The only thing that is keeping me from releasing this electrifying patch is that the ultimate aim of the patch - the roster update has not yet been completed. From latest transfers such as English Leagues Xavier to Liverpool to other popular and unknown leagues (Brazilian and all others) such as Adriano's loan to Fiorentina, none of the transfers around. After getting this patch, you'll be hooked onto Fifa 2002!"

We wait in anticipation for the release of this patch here soon. Before then, check out the latest feature list of this patch in our Patches Database.

Premier League review

Manchester United crashed Sunderland 4-1 at Old Trafford to open-up a 2 points lead at the top of the Premier League.

Phil Neville scored the opener after only 6 minutes, but talented Kevin Phillips soon equalised with a 25 yard shot. David Beckham restored United's lead with a stunning free-kick from just outside the penalty box before Ruud van Nistlerooy volleyed in the third goal for United.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored his second from the penalty spot just before the break time as Sunderland were totally out-played.

Premiership round-up

Arsenal dropped two home points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Highbury.

The Gunners lost Patrick Vieira through injury before Sylvain Wiltord netted the opener as they scored for the 26th consecutive league game. Saints kept battling and were rewarded when Jo Tessem levelled 10 minutes from time.

Newcastle United were involved in a thrilling 3-2 win against Bolton. Alan Shearer twice hauled Newcastle level against Bolton in a thrilling first half at St James' Park.

The Magpies had Shearer to thank after Ricardo Gardner and Nicky Southall had struck for Wanderers. Craig Bellamy struck Newcastle's winner to lift Bobby Robson's team into second spot.

Ipswich Town continued their revival with an impressive 2-1 triumph against Everton at Goodison Park.

Sixto Peralta volleyed Ipswich ahead from a Jamie Clapham cross but David Unsworth levelled from the penalty spot. Matt Holland fired Ipswich back in front on the stroke of half-time from 20 yards.

John Gregory enjoyed a winning start as manager of Derby County as they beat Tottenham 1-0 at Pride Park. Lee Morris scored the winner just before half-time as Gregory's men collected three much-needed points.

Chelsea fought back for a 3-2 win at bottom club Leicester City.

The Foxes took a surprise lead through Jamie Scowcroft's fifth goal of the season as Chelsea struggled in the first-half.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink put the Blues back on level terms before Scowcroft scored his second. Chelsea refused to give up and Gianfranco Zola and Hasselbaink condemned Leicester to defeat.
