UEFA Champions League - Last 16 1st Leg: Chelsea 1 Barcelona 2

UEFA Champions League - Last 16 1st Leg: Chelsea 1 Barcelona 2A night of passion and controversy at Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea, down to ten-men after the early dismissal of Del Horno, gallantly take the lead but eventually capitulate as Barcelona finished strong.

It took an own-goal to give Chelsea the advantage early in the second-half and for a while things looked good. But then a second own-goal and an Eto’o header after Ronaldinho had rampaged forward gave the visitors the win that on the balance of chances they deserved. There will be questions asked for a while yet however about Del Horno’s 35th minute red card .

  • 1-0: Lampard whipped in a 59th minute free-kick and with Terry poised ready for any scraps, Motta and keeper Valdes impeded each other and the ball flew into the net off the defender. The ten-men had the lead!
  • 1-1: The Catalans won a free-kick in Brazilian territory. Ronaldinho’s low trajectory free-kick was a pig to defended and it flicked off Terry and over Cech with 18 minutes to go.
  • 1-2: With ten minutes to go came the killer move. Ronaldinho advanced from deep and played the ball up to Larsson. The visitors’ star attraction continued his run, collected and crossed. Eto’o had a straight-forward header to give Barcelona their second away goal.

Although Barcelona have inflicted Chelsea’s first ever home defeat by a Spanish side and just their third home loss in all European competitions. It will take Chelsea's greatest ever away performance abroad in a fortnight’s time to remain in this season’s Champions League.

UEFA Champions League Review - Last 16 1st Legs

Following the 1st legs of the last 16 matches last night, we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

UEFA Champions League Review - Last 16 1st Legs
Last 16
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Ajax 2
Inter Milan 2

An inspired comeback by FC Internazionale Milano salvaged a 2-2 draw at the Amsterdam ArenA after hosts AFC Ajax had dominated the first half of this first knockout round first-leg tie. Dejan Stanković and Julio Cruz scored the goals during Inter's rally following a traumatic opening period. A superb header from UEFA Champions League debutant Klaas Jan Huntelaar had put Ajax into a 16th-minute lead and Mauro Rosales turned in a second four minutes later as Danny Blind's side took control.

Chelsea 1
Barcelona 2

FC Barcelona gave themselves a wonderful chance of securing a UEFA Champions League quarter-final berth as two late goals gave them a revenge victory over a Chelsea FC team forced to play with ten men for more than 50 minutes. It was a tale of two own goals at Stamford Bridge before Samuel Eto'o headed the winner with ten minutes remaining. In a thrilling repeat of last year's dramatic tie between the sides, Chelsea made light of the dismissal of Asier Del Horno and forged ahead as Thiago Motta inadvertently found the net. That was then cancelled out by a John Terry own goal after which the Spanish champions had numerous opportunities to score. Lionel Messi hit the bar and Terry twice cleared off the line before Eto'o had the last word.

Rangers 2
Villarreal 2

An own goal by Juan Manuel Peña salvaged a 2-2 draw for Rangers FC in the first leg of their first knockout round tie against Villarreal CF. The Primera División debutants looked to be on course for an impressive away win after first-half strikes from Juan Román Riquelme and Diego Forlán had sandwiched Peter Løvenkrands's equaliser, but Peña's miscue eight minutes from time gave Rangers hope for the return match in Spain.

Werder Bremen 3 Juventus 2
A header from Johan Micoud two minutes into added time earned Werder Bremen a dramatic victory against Juventus and gave the German side a slender but potentially crucial advantage to take to Italy for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League first knockout round tie in a fortnight's time. The home team struck first through Christian Schulz late in the first period, but two goals in nine minutes late in the second half, from Pavel Nedvěd and David Trezeguet, seemed to have turned the match in the visitors' favour. Bremen refused to buckle, however, and a clever finish from Tim Borowski three minutes from time revived their hopes, before Micoud nodded in from a corner seconds before the final whistle to the delight of the vociferous home support.

UEFA Champions League Review - Last 16 1st Legs

Following the 1st legs of the last 16 matches tonight, we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

UEFA Champions League Review - Last 16 1st Legs
Last 16
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
PSV 0
Lyon 1

A mistake by Heurelho Gomes means Lyon have the edge in this tie. Juninho Pernambucano's 65th minute free-kick was hit firmly, but it was Gomes' misjudgment that saw it ricochet high into the net off the prone keeper's body. PSV lost what edge they had in the first half after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink left the field, while Lyon were able to strengthen their attack with the introduction of the pacy Sylvain Wiltord and Fred. Sidney Govou was sent off late on, and the visitors were glad to see Arouna Koné miss an open goal inside the last five minutes, but in truth Lyon had the edge and deserve their lead.

Bayern Munich 1
AC Milan 1

After a first-half which Bayern dominated, taking the lead through Ballack, Milan clawed themselves back into the game in the second period equalising through Shevchenko. It will be all to play for when the sides meet again in two weeks time but Milan will surely be the happier side, coming away as the first team to deny Bayern victory at their new Fußball Arena München and with a crucial away goal.

Real Madrid 0
Arsenal 1

History in the Bernabéu, as Arsenal become the first English team to beat Madrid in this fantastic football stadium, richly deserving their 1-0 win. Thierry Henry slotted home early in the second half a goal that was merited given Arsenal's confidence and direction in the first half. Madrid never mounted a sufficient challenge to breakdown the visitor's young defence, who answered all the questions asked of them before the match. Even the introduction of Raúl could not inspire the home side to an equaliser - Madrid now travel to Highbury in two weeks knowing they must win.

Benfica 1
Liverpool 0
Benfica are left smiling after their second successive home victory over English opposition in the UEFA Champions League as Luisão's late header is the only difference between the sides. Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez was left fuming at the final whistle as he will feel this was a match they should not really have lost after being under so little pressure.

Italian Lega Calcio Review

Catching up on recent weeks, Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Italian Lega Calcio, Mahmoud Hagi, brings us a summary of all week 25's exciting action:

Italian Lega Calcio Review
Livorno 2
Fiorontina 0

Livorno returned to winning days after beating a strong Fiorontina side by two goals to nil to give Roma the chance they wanted to get the fourth position, if they really want to enter the Champions League next season. Lucarelli was the man of the match as he scored both goals for Fiorontina in the last quarter of the game to give his side the three points & put the dream of Fiorontina for participating in the Champions League next season in danger.

Reggina 1
AC Milan 4
Filippo Inzaghi helped his side to win the game convincingly by four goals to one in their away game against the weak side Reggina. He scored a hatrick for Milan in the 14th, 52nd and 90th mins of the game while Gilardino scored the fourth for Milan in 47th min. Vicari scored the only goal for Reggina, who got closer to the relegation zone. With this result Milan jumped to 2nd position with 54 points, the same points as Inter, waiting for Inter game with Juventus. It is worth mentioning that AC Milan was behind by a goal but Inzaghi helped his team to get back into the game.
Parma 0
Ascoli 0
Ascoli continued their draws as they drew for the eleventh time with Parma away nil nil to get a point. The game was poor & ended in a goalless draw & doesn't witness anything except yellow cards, four for Ascoli & two for Parma. With this result Parma are still close to the relegation zone while Ascoli are in 13th position but still close to the relegation zone & need more effort in the next weeks.
Empoli 0
Palermo 1
Palermo returned home with the three points after beating the weak side Empoli, who are facing the relegation danger. Andrea Barzalli scored the only goal & the winner in the dying minutes of the game in the 90th min to give Palermo a very hard three points & made it more difficult for Empoli in their race to escape the relegation zone.
Cagliari 0
Lecce 0

Lecce couldn't make a difference in their position in the table as they only returned with a point after their draw with Cagliari away nil nil in a very very poor game. The game only witnessed yellow cards & a red card.

Siena 0
AS Roma 2
Roma continued their good performance in the last weeks by another away win over Siena by two goals to nil scored through their players De Rossi & their Brazilian star Mancini in the 70th min & 90th min respectively. It is worth mentioning that Roma are very close to equalling the record for the continuous winning streak (currently held by Juventus) as they need one more win to get the same record of Juventus & another win to break the record. With this result Roma get very close to the fourth position they need to enter the Champions League next season. Also it is worth mentioning that Chiesa wasted a penalty kick in the dying minutes.
Sampadoria 4
Messina 2
Sampadoria thrashed the weak side Messina by four goals to two in a very exciting game full of real football, chances & goals. Messina were the 1st to score early in the 17th min through their player Mossimlovic, but in an instant reply Sampadoria scored the equalizer in the 19th min through Castellini to end the 1st half 1-1. But in the 2nd half both teams were eager to win the game so they attacked which resulted in another four goals among both teams. Sergio Folpi gave the lead to Sampadoria through a penalty kick in the 69th min & Max Tonninio added the third in the 76th min but in the dying minutes Di Napoli got one back for Messina in the 89th min, however Sampadoria added the fourth to get the whole three points in front of their home fans in the 90th min.
Inter Milan 1
Juventus 2

In a very exiting game Del Piero saved his team from the draw with Inter as he scored the winner for Juventus in the dying minutes of the game. The game was very hard for both teams so the game in the 1st half was closed & saw few chances except for a freekick from Adriano that hit the back of the net but the goal was canceled because the freekick was indirect. Also in the 1st half Veron got injured & was substituted by Killy Gonzalez.

However in the 2nd half both teams pushed forward to score goals and in the 63rd min Ibrahimovic scored the opener after a nice cross from Mauro Camoranesi. Samuel then equalized for Inter in the 74th min after a nice corner kick from Figo, however in the dying minutes the referee blew for a freekick for Juventus from a very close range which was converted in the net through the magnificent Del Piero to give Juventus the three points of the game and Milan the 2nd position as Juventus increased the gap at the top to 12 points.

It is worth mentioning that Figo after the game in the media attacked Moggi by asking: "What was Moggi doing in the referees room in the halftime ???!!!!!" However then Moggi replied by saying: "The one who signed contracts for just entertainment must shut up".

CEP 0.11 Fix C proper download

CEP Career Expansion PatchSorry to all users but an error happened during uploading process with the Fix C: all the users who downloaded yesterday (18/2) and this morning the fix have to redownload it from downloads section here to fix a problem with Germany 2006 (Ecuador disappeared in this wrong fix). Sorry for the inconvenience.

    CEP 0.11 Fix C released

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe fix C for CEP version 0.11 has been released: many improvements have been added mainly to the database, gathering the suggestions received after the version 0.11 release and the great quantity of material received: to include all the material received has not been possible to respect the date scheduled and to provide a fix that will correct the most relevant problems encountered until now, but every single mail will be taken in consideration for next versions. Main changements include:
    • Updated rosters and transfers for Italy, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands (huge work by CEP updaters!)
    • Various updates to other teams
    • Added missing players for above leagues
    • Fixed glitches and bugs segnalated
    • Added ascenso/descenso (promotion and relegation) to Mexican leagues
    • Fixed German language error with Argentinean league
    • Added Portugal language file
    • Properly fixed Nike numbers on many teams
    • Fixed names/number colours of many teams
    • Started the adding of famous Demonio's minikits
    • Restored transfers in career! (thanks to flooring1!)
    • New minikits from Demonio
The glitches and bugs encountered for graphical files contained in the .big files must be scheduled to version 0.12 release. The Fix C is available in Downloads Section here.

Many and great news happened this week to the CEP project: the Colombian community Fifamustang06 joined the CEP project and soon we'll have a complete Colombia update extremely detailed. As I already wrote the Italian community Fifaonline.it joined CEP too and this will improve the quality of Italian updates: we are starting a more rationalized organization of collaboration relations here on Sweetpatch so I can dedicate my time more to CEP development and to the 0.12 version that should be ready for the end of March.

Another great news is that the famous kitmaker Demonio joined CEP project so we'll start to have the best minikits available in the Fifa editing community. In the meanwhile you can find the fix C here, in downloads section: I hope this can be the final fix for this version. Thanks to the collaboration of CEP users this version presents a "restored" version of the transfer market that should assure a good stability: the CPU needs about 1 minute at the end of season to calculate and organize all the data, but career seems fluid enough now. As always if you have problems and questions about the CEP go to the CEP forums (you can reach them through the menu on the left): your collaboration and bugs fixing is absolutely needed for the quality of this patch.

If you find the game too hard in this release, you can install the "Original EA gameplay" patch in the download section that will restore the (easy) settings of the original game: if you want go back to the hard settings you'll have to reinstall the fix C. I included a "Camera fix" too in downloads section, that will not alter anything of your game except new setting for game cameras that will allow more combinations in game. CEP will adopt new NK gameplay release when it will be ready, and it will be compatible with this patch without having to download a "special" version CEP-compatible from here: I'll put the new about the release of this gameplay here on the site along with the link to NK thread and download. In the meanwhile if you want use CEP you have to do it with the included settings. Enjoy.

    Italian Lega Calcio Review

Catching up on recent weeks, Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Italian Lega Calcio, Mahmoud Hagi, brings us a summary of all week 24's exciting action:

    Italian Lega Calcio Review
    AS Roma 4
    Cagliari 3

In a very exciting game Roma continued their good form by winning their 8th consecutive game by beating Cagliari by four goals to three. Cagliari was the 1st to score through Davis Suazo & Antonio in the 14th & 18th min but soon Roma equalized before the end of the 1st half by scoring two goals through Simone Perrotta & De Rossi in the 24th min & 34th min. In the 2nd half Conti gave Cagliari the lead again by scoring the third for his team so Roma attacked with all their lives & got two penalties in the 74th min & 90th min from which Totti scored both the equalizer then the winner in the dying minutes of the game to give Roma a very important & difficult three points. It is worth mentioning that two players from both teams got red cards.

    Udinese 1
    Reggina 2
Reggina returned home with the three points after beating Udinese at their own ground by two goals to one. Iaquinta scored the opener for Udinese in the 16th min but Nicola Amoroso gave Reggina the three points by scoring both goals of in the 40th min & 62nd min.
    Ascoli 0
    Livorno 0
In a bad game it ended in a goalless draw between Ascoli & Livorno as both teams couldn't score any goals to end the game in such a bad way.
    Chievo Verona 1
    Sampadoria 1
Neither Verona nor Sampadoria could get the three points of the game as they drew by a goal for each. Vitalli scored the opener for Sampadoria in the 30th min but in the 2nd half Guseeppi Scorto scored the equalizer for Verona in 61st min. The game was full of yellow cards as it witnessed five yellow cards, four of which were for the Sampadoria team.
    Juventus 1
    Parma 1

Parma stopped the winning days for Juventus as they drew by a goal for each. Parma were the 1st to score in the 39th min through their player Danielle Dessena but soon Zlatan equalized for Juventus before the end of the 1st half in the 44th min & in the 2nd half the game was so poor & Juventus couldn't score any goals to end the game by this result & lose two important points in the race for the title.

    Fiorontina 2
    Inter Milan 1
Inter couldn't take advantage of the draw of Juventus as they lost to Fiorontina by two goals to one. Fiorontina scored the 1st two goals through their players Brocchi & Gemmeness while Recoba scored the only goal for Inter.
    AC Milan 5
    Trevisio 0
Milan thrashed Trevisio by five goals to nil in a very one sided game. Shevchenko scored two goals while the other three goals were scored by Kaka, Gilardino & Filippo Inzaghi.
    Palermo 3
    Lazio 1
Palermo secured the three points at their own ground by beating Lazio by three goals to one. Belleri's goal wasn't enough to help Lazio return to the game as Palermo were leading by three goals scored through Mariano Nicolas Gonzalez, Tedesco & Andrea Carciollo in the 11th, 56th, 65th mins respectively.
    Messina 0
    Siena 0
In a very poor game Messina couldn't get the three points at their home ground but only drew with Siena nil nil. By this result both teams are still close to the relegation zone as Messina are only one point from the relegation zone and Siena are only four points from the relegation zone.
    Empoli 2
    Lecce 1
Empoli got an important three points on their way to escape the relegation zone after beating the weak side Lecce by two goals to one. Empoli were the 1st to score through Almeron & Tavvano in the 2nd & 41st min of the game to end the 1st half in a two goal lead. In the 2nd half Lecce tried to return to the game but they couldn't score more than one goal through Ledsma in the 80th min.

Craig Bellamy struck twice as Blackburn Rovers got their European bid back on track at the expense of Barclays Premiership bottom side Sunderland.

The Welshman scored in each half at Ewood Park to lift Rovers, after two successive defeats, up to seventh in the table.

Sunderland were competitive at least until Bellamy hit his second in the 63rd minute but defeat leaves them eight points adrift.

Substitute Luis Garcia gave Liverpool a crucial victory over Arsenal three minutes from time at Anfield.

Steven Gerrard had seen a first-half penalty saved by Jens Lehmann and it looked as if the north Londoners’ containing tactics were going to see them through to a point until Luis Garcia came on with six minutes left.

In the 87th minute he raced into the box after Dietmar Hamann's shot had been palmed away by Lehmann and scooped the ball home in front of the Kop to give Liverpool a 10-point lead over the Gunners.

    IGN's FIFA Street 2 Hands-On

IGN's FIFA Street 2 Hands-OnOver at IGN they have posted the first FIFA Street 2 preview we have seen with EA senior producer Simon Andrews.

Following the failure of the original FIFA Street, the question Andrews needed to ask his team was, "What makes a good street-soccer game?" First, they looked at what the original FIFA Street did well. It was a good idea and didn't take itself too seriously. But there was no depth to the gameplay and trick list, the goalkeepers were complete sods, and the single-player game was shallow. After addressing these concerns, Andrews said that the upcoming FIFA Street 2 will be the real "base" from which to move this franchise forward.

Check out the full interview plus all their screenshots over at IGN.

With the launch date of 3rd March only just a few weeks away, why not get your order in quickly at our Sweetpatch Shop so FIFA Street 2 arrives ready to be played on the day it is released.

Coming soon: we have teamed up with EA Sports to bring you the opportunity to win 1 of 3 copies of FIFA Street 2 for the PS2. Check back soon when we launch this fantastic competition.

    West Ham 3
    Birmingham 0

On a night when some of West Ham United's former heroes turned up to pay tribute to the late Ron Greenwood, it was perhaps fitting that Alan Pardew's side moved into the top six of the Barclays Premiership with a 3-0 win over struggling Birmingham City.

The former West Ham and England manager passed away after a long illness last week but would surely have approved of the way the Hammers claimed their seventh straight victory.

A goal in each half from Marlon Harewood and another from Dean Ashton ensured they overtook Wigan Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, as well as surpassing the 40-point mark which so many managers view as the benchmark for safety in the top flight.

We bring you a summary of all the latest action from the English Premiership:

    Barclays Premiership Review
    Sat 11
    Feb 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
    Aston Villa 1
    Newcastle 2

Shay Given saved a second-half penalty from Milan Baros as 10-man Newcastle United maintained their mini-revival under Glenn Roeder and took advantage of Aston Villa's poor home form. Shola Ameobi opened the scoring for the Magpies after just two minutes and, after Luke Moore had headed Villa level, Charles N'Zogbia restored the advantage.

    Arsenal 1
    Bolton 1

Arsenal left it late with a stoppage-time equaliser from Gilberto to avoid a third defeat at the hands of Bolton Wanderers this season. And until the second minute of five additional minutes, it looked as if an early effort from captain Kevin Nolan would prove enough for another.

    Everton 1
    Blackburn 0

James Beattie made the difference as 10-man Everton stretched their unbeaten run to six league games.

    Fulham 6
    WBA 1

Fulham cruised to their biggest win of the season in the Barclays Premiership thanks to two goals apiece from Heidar Helguson and substitute Collins John.

    Middlesbrough 3
    Chelsea 0
Middlesbrough made a mockery of crisis talk at the Riverside Stadium by handing Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho his heaviest defeat in English football.Goals from Fabio Rochemback - his first for the club - Stewart Downing and Aiyegbeni Yakubu condemned the Blues to just their second Barclays Premiership defeat of the season, and it was every bit as comprehensive as the scoreline suggests. Not since November 6, some 18 matches ago, had Chelsea lost a game in any competition; by contrast, Boro had not collected all three points in a league match at the Riverside Stadium in six attempts.
    Wigan 0
    Liverpool 1
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is still waiting for one of his forwards to find the net in the Barclays Premiership in 2006 after Sami Hyypia helped the Reds return to winning ways at the JJB Stadium.

    Man City 3
    Charlton 2

Joey Barton rasped home a brilliant 30-yard strike to put Manchester City on their way to a thrilling Barclays Premiership win over Charlton Athletic. Richard Dunne gave City a half-time lead and the hosts were able to hold onto their advantage despite conceding twice in a four-goal spell at the start of the second period which saw both Darren and Marcus Bent convert for the visitors and £6million new-boy Georgios Samaras nod home his first City goal before Barton's thunderous winner.

    Sunderland 1
    Spurs 1

Substitute Daryl Murphy fired home the first senior goal of his Sunderland career a minute from time to dent Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League charge. The Irishman came off the bench to cancel out Robbie Keane’s 38th-minute opener and grab a point for his side which takes them into double figures for the season, although Jermaine Jenas could have broken Wearside hearts but fired over in injury time.

    Rinaldo's Animations Patch 06 v1.0

Rinaldo's Animations Patch 06 v1.0The excellent Sweetpatch Posse Developer Rinaldo has been working on his latest project, his Animations Patch. Animations are the movements made by the players during the game.

Today we release his first public release of his Animations Patch. (He will continue to develop further versions). This patch adds new player’s movements to FIFA 06. After the installation you will see your players to make movements never seen before

    Features:

    • 90° Bicycle Kick: make a cross, stay with the body perpendicular to the goal line and type D. For some people the occurrences of the bicycle kick were too high, if you want to be sure to hit the ball with the head on a high cross type W instead of D.
    • 180° Bicycle Kick: make a lob pass from the midfield, stay with your back toward the the goal line and type D.
    • Chest pass: make a lob pass and type S before you receive the ball.
    • Fake Shot: two new movements added to the original one. Press together Z + D.
    • New dribbling added
      • Forward Flick: Shift + Ahead Arrow while the ball is in movement
      • Quick Sole Touch + Other Internal Foot: Shift + Left Arrow (or Right Arrow) while the ball is in movement
      • Heel touch behind the other leg: Shift + Left Arrow (or Right Arrow) while the ball is in movement
      • Ronaldinho’s Elastico: two ways, Shift + Ahead Arrow while the ball is in movement or Shift + Right Arrow while the ball is stopped
      • Double Touch and small Flick Ahead: Shift + Ahead Arrow while the ball is stopped
      • Zidane’s rollcastle: as usual you can make it pressing Shift + Left Arrow and Ahead Arrow quickly while the ball is moving, now you can make a rollcastle also when the ball is stopped pressing Shift + Left Arrow
    • Heel Shot: type D shortly while you have your back toward the goal line.
    • New inside foot shot: type D shortly while inside the box.
    • Stretch shot: type D shortly while sprinting or type D shortly before you receive the ball from a low cross in the box.
    • New keeper saves: nothing to do, just play and enjoy the new skills of your keeper. You will notice that now it is easier to beat the keeper in a one-one situation.

The described movements appear casually during the game in addition to the existing ones, so you could have to play several times before to see them. I suggest to try in training mode before.

Download this ground breaking patch direct from our Download Boutique and play and see FIFA 06 like you never have before.

Africa Cup of Nations 2006: Egypt win Cup after penalty drama

Africa Cup of Nations 2006: Egypt win Cup after penalty dramaEgypt won the African Cup of Nations for a record fifth time by beating Ivory Coast 4-2 on penalties after a goalless draw in the final in Cairo today.

Goalkeeper Essam Al Hadary was the hero for the hosts, saving two penalty kicks, while Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba and Bakary Kone missed theirs.

The match ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, with Drogba missing the Ivorians' best chance in regulation time. Mohammed Aboutrika scored the winning penalty for the North Africans.

With the 0-0 scoreline unchanged after 120 minutes of play, the penalty shoot-out begun with both captains taking their kicks. But while Egypt's Ahmed Hassan scored his, Drogba's was saved by El Hadary, and bitter disappointment followed for the Ivorians.

The euphoric scenes that were played out by the hosts after the winning penalty by Aboutrika was in stark contrast to the shattered Ivory Coast players and their 200 fans who trudged off the pitch in disbelief.

FA Cup 4th Round Replay: Chelsea 4 Everton 1

FA Cup 4th Round Replay: Chelsea 4 Everton 1Colchester at Stamford Bridge stand between Chelsea and the FA Cup quarter-finals after Everton were demolished by an accomplished all-round display. José Mourinho had announced that his players weren’t anticipating the need for a penalty shoot-out to decide this replay and they backed their manager’s words with on-field actions, storming into a three-goal lead by the break.

Not that penalties didn’t play a part – two in total. Chelsea’s second and Everton’s consolation came from the spot. It was established names Robben, Lampard, Crespo and Terry who scored the goals but it was also a good night for two fringe players in particular - Shaun Wright-Phillips and Robert Huth who were both handed their first starts since Huddersfield visited in the third round.

    • 1-0: The first goal came with the first-half midway through and it was one of the most graceful strikes the Bridge has seen this season. Once Crespo had chested and turned Gudjohnsen’s chip into the path of Robben, there never looked any doubt that the Dutchman would put the past week’s inquests behind him. He slotted low past Turner with ease.
    • 2-0: The goal came from the penalty spot, the award coming courtesy of Shaun Wright-Phillips’ positive running. He flew past Kilbane and Valente before checking his run. The chasing Everton defender stuck an ill-advised leg in and the referee correctly pointed to the spot. Lampard’s strike was low and true into the bottom left-hand corner. That’s 16 goals for the season.
    • 3-0: Just two minutes later on 37 minutes it became 3-0. Lampard this time was the supplier, drilling a free-kick to the near post where the elusive Crespo flicked a header home with power. It was the Argentine’s eighth goal in 13 games and one to cherish.
    • 3-1: For the second time in the match, referee Phil Dowd was left no option but to point to the spot, Huth clearly beating away McFadden’s shot with his hands. Arteta gave Cudicini no chance with the 72nd minute penalty.
    • 4-1: Cahill brought down Wright-Phillips 25 yards out and becomes the second caution of the game. No-one was prepared to deny Huth a shoot which was blocked but when it spun out to fellow centre-back Terry, the captain lashed it into the net with a stupendous shot.

    Barclays Premiership Review

    Charlton 2
    Liverpool 0

Liverpool's mini-slump continued at Charlton Athletic as two goals late in the first half proved enough to seal victory for the hosts. Darren Bent netted a penalty after Jerzy Dudek, in for the suspended Jose Reina, was adjudged to have tripped the striker in the box. And when skipper Luke Young drilled in a loose ball in the six-yard box during stoppage time, Liverpool were left with it all to do, a feat they never looked like achieving.

    Italian Lega Calcio Review

Catching up on recent weeks, Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Italian Lega Calcio, Mahmoud Hagi, brings us a summary of all week 23's exciting action:

    Italian Lega Calcio Review
    Siena 1
    Ascoli 1

After securing the three points last week Siena failed to beat Ascoli on their home ground as Ascoli returned home with a valuable point that keeps them in the middle of the table with just two points behind Siena but closer to the relegation zone with just four points above the relegation zone. Ascoli were the 1st to score through Komoto but soon Bogodani, who scored a hatrick last week, shone again & equalized for Siena 10 minutes later.

    Parma 0
    AS Roma 3
Roma complete their wonderful performances in recent weeks after beating the falling side Parma by three goals to nil in a one sided game that witnessed the rising star Mancini scoring two goals for his side & shining again as he has done in recent weeks. Mancini scored the 1st for Roma in the 47th min after a wonderful shot from inside the area then he doubled it after a wonderful pass from his teammate Totti in the 72nd min before Perrotta added the third in the 77th min through another wonderful pass from the prince of Roma, Totti. By this result Roma are still in fifth position hoping that they could get one of the 1st four positions to qualify for the Champions League next season & for sure if they keep their wonderful performance sure they will get one.
    Sampadoria 1
    Trevisio 1
Trevisio managed to get a point from Sampadoria on their way to escape the relegation zone. They still need more points in the coming weeks. Vitalli scored the opener for Sampadoria in the 1st half but then Gustavo succeeded in scoring the equalizer in the 70th min to keep the result as it is until the final whistle.
    Reggina 2
    Palermo 2
Reggina are still close to the relegation zone, just four points above the relegation zone, after drawing with Palermo in a very difficult match by two goals each. David Di Michelle opened for Sampadoria in the 43rd min but soon Gattano equalized for Reggina before the end of the 1st half. In the 2nd half Andrea Carciollo gave Sampadoria the lead again before Carlos equalized for Reggina in the dying minutes of the game to end the game in a draw.
    Livorno 2
    Messina 2

Livorno continue losing points with a draw against the struggling side Messina by two goals each. In a similar game to the previous one between Reggina & Sampadoria where Livorno lead the game through Lucarelli then Messina equalized before Lucarelli to the lead again for Livorno before Di Napoli scored his second in the game & equalized for Messina in the dying minutes in the game.

    Juventus 1
    Udinese 0
Del Piero helped his side from struggling against Udinese by scoring the only goal & the winner in the 70th min after meeting a wonderful cross from the left side with his left first time to score the winner & help his team continuing the road to the title for the second consecutive season. It is worth mentioning that Montarri got a red card that he refuted in a bad way as he got off his shirt and putting it on the referee's neck.
    Inter Milan 1
    Chievo Verona 0
Inter keep following Juventus at the top of the Lega Calcio trying to maintain their position in second spot or stealing the title if Juventus struggle in the coming weeks which seems to be a dream. Julio Cruz followed Luis Figo's free kick to score the only goal in the game & the winner for his side Inter to secure the three points.
    Fiorontina 1
    Lecce 0
Luca Toni continues leading the top scorers in the Lega Calcio after scoring the only goal for his side Fiorontina to give them the three points & getting closer to the third position in the table by only one point difference from AC Milan in third.
    Cagliari 4
    Empoli 1
Cagliari thrashed Empoli by four goals to one to increase their hopes of escaping from the relegation zone. Nelson opened the score in the 3rd min. then Espositto added the second in the 20th min, then their top scorer David Suazo added the third in the 38th min but then in the second half Tavvano got one back for Empoli but it wasn't enough as Espositto scored the second for himself & the fourth for his team in the 62nd min to end the game in such a heavy defeat.
    Lazio 0
    AC Milan 0
Milan's hopes for the title this season becomes fate after their another draw with Lazio & the gap with the giants Juventus increased to 14 points. The game ended nil nil in a bad way there was not any attacking football except a few chances but the game remained goalless until the end of the game.

    Chelsea 2
    Liverpool 0

Chelsea's march towards a second successive Barclays Premiership title took another giant step forward with a well-deserved victory over 10-man Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

    Spurs 3
    Charlton 1

Tottenham Hotpsur striker Jermain Defoe strengthened his case to be included in England's World Cup party with a two-goal performance against Charlton Athletic. Jermaine Jenas was the other Spurs scorer, with substitute Jerome Thomas netting a consolation effort for the lacklustre visitors on a day when Addicks striker Darren Bent - Defoe’s main rival for an England place - failed to make any impact.

English Premier League: Chelsea 2 Liverpool 0

English Premier League: Chelsea 1 Charlton 1Familiarity bred a tight game but it couldn’t prevent Chelsea yet again defeating Liverpool in the Premiership. A goal in each half saw the Blues go 21 points ahead of Sunday afternoon’s opponents who had their goalkeeper sent-off.

William Gallas with his second of the season and Hernán Crespo with his eleventh made the breakthroughs and Crespo was denied a second goal by - you guessed it – an incorrect offside flag.

    • 1-0: There were 35 minutes on the clock when Chelsea won our first corner, but when we did, we made it count. Lampard curved over an outswinger which Carvalho’s stretch reached first. He headed downwards to where awaited William Gallas, sharp enough to swivel and hook the ball home. Stamford Bridge ignited. It was first blood to the Blues.
    • 2-0: The Chelsea centre-forward had lacked service but that was remedied on 67 minutes by a simple lob forward from Del Horno. The threat didn’t look immediate but in the blink of an eye Crespo had flashed a volley across Reina and in for a stunning finish. This time the flag stayed down.

Just a minute later Crespo finished again without a second thought, chipping over Reina sublimely. Replays show he had been at least a yard onside, but not according to the linesman. Do wrong flag decisions ever go in the Chelsea number nine’s favour?

Those Liverpool figures who had suggested they had the measure of José Mourinho’s Chelsea may care to reflect on a results record that now reads five Chelsea wins, three draws and one defeat since Benitez and Mourinho took the reigns. The Blues have won all four Premiership games and this season are 15 points clear at the top with 13 games to play.

    CEP 0.11 released!

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe new version of CEP is ready to download from Sweetpatch Patches Database here. Due to technical problems with Filefront I have not been able to distribute the file since the 3rd of February but this has not been related to my will. I have to thank all the collaborators that did possible the realization of this huge and impressive version of CEP that will change deeply your experience of game with Fifa 2006. A very important technical note on career modality: freezings problems seem resolved at 100% even there is always a possibility in a thousand that the game can refuse for some strange reason to manage all the extra datas contained in CEP: the situation is anyway completely different from the version 0.10 because with the help of EA authors I found some errors that could have been the cause of the freezes. At the end of each season, in career modality, the game SEEMS to freeze, calculating all the competitions for the next year: the game is NOT freezing, it just needs to compile all the tournaments, and needs about 1 minute (30 second with 3.2 processor) to let a new season begin; please let the CPU work at the end of career and save often.

This version of CEP shows which results can give the collaboration of many editors and communities in the realization of a quality free product: I have to give a personal thanking for this new version to: David Witts, who make possible for CEP to be in the most important Fifa website giving a great future to this project; Jose Delgado from Venezuela, for his personal help with graphical elements; Gonzalo, to have joined the CEP with enthusiasm regarding Argentinian kits; all the members of the incredible CEP updaters team, that lets this patch have the most impressive rosters update for a winter transfer window: Mariano Rossini, Derek Vignard, Cuzcus, Stefan Galler, Steven, Bjorn Janich, Miked, Daniel van Hoven, Machiel Vellema, Bruno167, and much others who contributed with the updates for single team: can be possible that not all your work has been included completely in the present version, but it will surely be in 0.12 and it's absolutely needed for the good realization of CEP. Thanks to Fifaccitiu for his help with tecnhical questions, as a guru of the Fifa hardcore editing. A special thank goes to the team of Fifabrasil, to Rodrigo Dhalin, Eduardo Shaggy, Mario Rorschach and Space Leo, for sharing their excellent capacities of editors of the Brazilian side of Fifa for the CEP. And thanks to the excellent Fifa web communities that joined CEP since this version:
    • Fifamexico, for sharing an incredible work of updating on Mexican league,
    • Fifapolonia, to have gladly joined this project with their excellent capacities (effects of this joining will be greater in future versions),
    • Fansfifa.net from Portugal (soon the adaption of a great work on Portugal),
    • the authors of Greek Superpatch for having shared their great work with CEP,
    • Mohammed Talaat for the great infos on African national teams.
A personal thanking to all the translators that did possible to have the CEP in all FIFA languages. I hope the CEP project can keep growing in this communitary direction aimed to the improvement of Fifa.

Switching to patch detail the CEP is now a simple EXE installer, just follow the instructions and the installation will be extremely easy. Remember to don't have any other patch installed over your Fifa to be sure of the correct CEP working, and remember to delete the files contained in "Fifa 06" directory inside your Documents & Settings directory. English Premier League Review

We bring you a summary of all the latest action from the English Premiership:

    Barclays Premiership Review
    Sat 04
    Feb 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
    Birmingham 0
    Arsenal 2

Thierry Henry scored his 200th goal for Arsenal to help Arsene Wenger's side end a difficult fortnight on a high note and plunge Birmingham City deeper into Barclays Premiership relegation trouble.

    Bolton 1
    Wigan 1

Andreas Johansson stepped off the bench and out of the shadows to rescue a point for Wigan Athletic at the Reebok Stadium. He grabbed the equaliser in the 77th minute of this derby clash. Bolton Wanderers had looked in sight of victory thanks to a goal from Stelios Giannakopoulos - his eighth of the season - in the 63rd minute.

    Everton 1
    Man City 0

Everton's resurgence continued thanks to a scrambled David Weir goal as a fired-up Joey Barton fought in vain to inspire the Manchester City team-mates around him.

    Man United 4
    Fulham 2

Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo scored a decisive double to settle a thrill-a-minute Barclays Premiership clash which saw Fulham boss Chris Coleman sent from the dug-out. Ronaldo drove home a brutal first-half free-kick, then wrapped up victory four minutes from time with an equally clinical close-range finish. The winger’s efforts punctuated an amazing contest which saw Coleman dismissed following his protests to the match officials over Ruud van Nistelrooy's part in the build-up to United’s third, which Louis Saha prodded home. The goal gave Sir Alex Ferguson’s men some breathing space, which was just as well given Fulham pressed hard at times in the second period, although United were able to hold out for a win which reduces Chelsea’s lead to 12 points.

    Middlesbrough 0
    Aston Villa 4

Middlesbrough crashed to a heavy defeat as Aston Villa's young striker Luke Moore led a rampage at the Riverside Stadium. Moore, still 10 days short of his 20th birthday, scored a classy hat-trick to add to Middlesbrough's woes. Kevin Phillips was Villa’s other scorer, and the 4-0 scoreline in no way flattered the visitors, who dominated from beginning to end.

    Newcastle 2
    Portsmouth 0
Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer once again wrote his own fairytale script as he claimed his club-record 201st goal just when the Magpies needed it most. Shearer’s 64th-minute strike doubled the advantage given to Newcastle by Charles N’Zogbia’s first-half opener to get Glenn Roeder’s caretaker reign off to the perfect start just three days after Graeme Souness’ departure.
    WBA 2
    Blackburn 0
Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes' pre-match demands fell on deaf ears as West Bromwich Albion edged further away from the relegation places.First-half goals from captain Kevin Campbell and Jonathan Greening gave boss Bryan Robson’s side another priceless victory to move the Baggies six points clear of the Barclays Premiership drop zone.
    West Ham 2
    Sunderland 0
Dean Ashton started to pay back his transfer fee with a goal on his home debut for West Ham United to help sink 10-man Sunderland at Upton Park. The England Under-21 international - signed in a club-record £7million deal from Norwich City last month - was on hand to sweep the ball home at the far post with just nine minutes to go to finally break the Wearsiders’ resistance. There was still time for Paul Konchesky to make it 2-0 with a low strike from the edge of the box, which crept under Kelvin Davis as the Hammers made it six straight wins in Alan Pardew’s 100th match in charge.

CEP is waiting for Filefront servers

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe CEP version 0.11 is ready since yesterday in the late night, as anticipated: anyway we have encountered a technical problem with Filefront servers, this is way it has not been upped yet. Download of version 0.11 will be available only from this site and has to be a Sweetpatch Filefront link, so I'm forced to wait until Filefront services will be available again.

In the meanwhile I will post the short release list indicating the main features of the new version that will be a simple exe installer (simplifying a lot the installation process for the ones that are not expert with Winrar program):

    Version 0.11 - 03.02.06
    • Teams updated to 1/2/2006! About 1000 transfers done.
    • New leagues: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexican Primera A, Brazil Serie A, Serie A Grecia, Serie C1A e C1B Italia.
    • New Competitions: Germany World Cup 2006, Copa America, Confederations Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup, Africa Cup of Nations, Scandinavian Royal Cup, Champions League with preliminary stages, UEFA Cup with preliminary stages, Full Italian Coppa Italia, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Mexican Interliga.
    • 17 teams best of Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
    • 36 Rest of Europe teams.
    • 40 new national teams.
    • 255 new teams.
    • 6200 new players.
    • 1530 new flags for added teams.
    • All languages file included.
    • 255 new teams.
    • 6200 new players.
We encountered a problem with Polish and Portuguese translations due to the difficulty of converting these two db files: this is why Polish and Portuguese translations will be availabe later as a single little add-on. After CEP release I will concentrate on a new and improved version of Kits Addon, containing all the best kits creation for the teams existing in original Fifa: this will be another step in the direction of a great, unique project that tries to join all the best efforts of the Fifa community to improve EA game with a must-have for all add-on. I'm delighted by the general behaviour of Fifa community that is showing how much collaboration spirit exists in it and how great the future of patches making for this game will be: I'm sure that being now on the most important Fifa website, Sweetpatch, is the best way to cultivate the dream of joining all the fifa editing talents for a single masterpiece for our beloved EA game.

The list of future updates on CEP is very large since now, with Euro 2008 qualification rounds and final tournaments, World Cup qualifications stage (as in RTWC), and a lot of new leagues: Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Russia, Serbia, Sweden 2nd division, Dutch 2nd division, Japan J-League, Romania and much more. In the meanwhile let's wait the return of Filefront services.

    English Premier League Review

We bring you a summary of all the latest action from the English Premiership:

    Barclays Premiership Review
    Wed 1
    Feb 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
    Arsenal 2
    West Ham 3

Arsenal's hopes of securing Champions League football suffered another body-blow as West Ham United recorded a shock 3-2 win at Highbury. After a promising start, Arsenal were undone by some more poor defending, as Sol Campbell’s mistake let in Nigel Reo-Coker to net the opening goal on 25 minutes. Former Tottenham Hotspur forward Bobby Zamora soon made it 2-0, and although Thierry Henry poached his club-record 151st league goal, and Robert Pires later set up a grandstand finish, Matthew Etherington’s 81st-minute effort sealed all three points.

    Aston Villa 1
    Chelsea 1

Luke Moore - the first player to score in the Barclays Premiership against Chelsea this season - again came up trumps to rescue a deserved point for David O'Leary's side at Villa Park. Moore came off the bench with quarter of an hour to go and within three minutes had turned home a centre from Mark Delaney for the Aston Villa equaliser. That cancelled out Arjen Robben's first-half effort - Chelsea's 50th league goal of the campaign.

    Blackburn 4
    Man United 3

David Bentley struck a sensational hat-trick and Rio Ferdinand was sent off for a foul which led to Robbie Savage being stretchered off in an extraordinary seven-goal thriller at Ewood Park.

    Liverpool 1
    Birmingham 1

Robbie Fowler was denied a dream return to Anfield when his late overhead kick was ruled out for offside as the European champions were held at home by 10-man Birmingham City. The 30-year-old entered the action just after the hour mark, after Liverpool had taken the lead through Steven Gerrard’s 17th goal of the season. But Birmingham, who had Damien Johnson sent off for a heavy tackle on Daniel Agger in the first half, refused to give up and were rewarded when Xabi Alonso gave away a freak own goal.

    Man City 3
    Newcastle 0
Goals from Albert Riera, Andy Cole and Darius Vassell gave Manchester City a comfortable win over Newcastle United at the City of Manchester Stadium. Unfortunately that was too much for the Newcastle board to endure and subsequently manager Graeme Souness has been sacked.
    Portsmouth 1
    Bolton 1
Azar Karadas' goal four minutes from time earned Portsmouth a valuable point in their fight against relegation from the Barclays Premiership, denting Bolton Wanderers' Champions League hopes in the process.Karadas expertly hooked in a Wayne Routledge cross to deny Sam Allardyce’s men, who had taken the lead when Khalilou Fadiga - who missed a first-half penalty - scored direct from a free-kick from near the corner flag.

    Charlton 0
    WBA 0

West Bromwich Albion marked their 100th Premiership match with a goalless draw at Charlton Athletic.

    Fulham 1
    Spurs 0

A stoppage-time winner by Fulham defender Carlos Bocanegra dented Tottenham Hotspur's challenge to be a top-four side in the Barclays Premiership at the end of the season.

    Sunderland 0
    Middlesbrough 3

Middlesbrough eased their relegation fears by gaining revenge over Sunderland to nudge them closer to the Barclays Premiership trapdoor. Central defender Emanuel Pogatetz headed the visitors in front with just 13 minutes gone with his first strike for the club, and when full-back Stuart Parnaby drove home his maiden Barclays Premiership goal 18 minutes later, the game was effectively over. Sunderland's lack of finishing power was cruelly punished by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 19 minutes from time when he blasted a shot past the helpless Kelvin Davis.

    Wigan 1
    Everton 1

Wigan Athletic and Everton shared the spoils at the JJB Stadium in a match which saw both teams finish the game with 10 men. A David Thompson own goal had put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute before Scharner ended a neat move by bagging the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.
