Durkin not for turning
Paul Durkin will not reconsider the red card he issued to Sol Campbell saying he had no alternative but to send off the Arsenal defender. Meanwhile, Ledley King is adamant he did not intentionally stamp on Freddie Ljungberg.

All wrong for Wright-Phillips
Shaun Wright-Phillips has been ruled out of City's clash with Sunderland on December 9 following the red card he received against Everton.

OFT get shirty with Man.Utd
Manchester United and the Football Association can expect to find out early next year whether they are to be prosecuted following allegations of fixing the price of replica kits following an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading.

The figures and the facts
Grimsby have announced a profit of over £1m for the past year. The reality though is two-thirds of that was taken up with ITV's money and the rest was made up of loans. There are further cuts to come at the cash-strapped Mariners.

Can Stoke bag brace of Baggies?
Striker Danny Dichio and keeper Brian Jensen have been linked with moves away from West Brom now that Stoke boss Tony Pulis has assessed the strength (or lack of it) of his squad. Meanwhile, Gary Megson is keeping tabs on Derby's Malcolm Christie.

Ruddock out to set the record straight
Neil Ruddock says he is not out to bankrupt Swindon but wants what he believes he is owed by the club. 'Razor' did turn down an initial six figure offer but says he has put in a new offer which, he states, would still mean losing on out £250K.

New review of FIFA 2003 @ PC Gamester

Over at PC Gamester you will find a new review of Fifa 2003. To summarise in Phil's words:

Fifa Football 2003

"What we've got here could be considered a brand new game, not just an update, since there's many subtle changes as well as a many notable big changes in almost every aspect of the game. The only real gripe we have is still with the AI, which seems to have one leak plugged, only to spring another in a different department but it's not as apparent as before, and shouldn't spoil your enjoyment of the game.

The Creation Centre is certainly an attraction for those who shied away for the kludgy customisation system in FIFA 2002, and with a little elbow grease diminishes any reasons to complain about the lack of their favourite teams.

In all, FIFA 2003 feels like a more professional and rounded product, and justified in being a full price game, because we think EA have finally created FIFA Football 2. The best FIFA ever? If it's not, it's damn close. A must have for fans of the series, and worth the cynics checking out, too."

Fifa Football 2003

Check out their full review over at PC Gamester today.

Gemmill no go to Stoke

They're in the money
Craig Bellamy's dramatic winner may have swelled Newcastle's coffers by up to £10m but one analyst warned it might have no effect on the club's share price.

Is this good news or what?

This is the news we have all been hoping for! Over at Soccer Access Ariel has informed the world that he will be back, but not like before. Thanks to some of his friends they will share their internet provider and after joining a different payment plan (less expensive) he will be able to keep on line.

Now he will work off-line most of the time and upload patches and news to Soccer Access at night. They are still trying to solve the hosting problem with Soccer Access. As they told us before UGO will stop hosting them at any time, so may be Soccer Access will go off line for a couple of days until they upload the site to a new server.

Ariel will return to work with KR 2. He is having problems with Creation Center (CC) users because the CC uses a different folder for kits and database than "non modified" FIFA 2003. After he solves that he will upload KR2.

Let's all celebrate and pay him and the team a visit over at Soccer Access.

Kit Making Tutorial for Fifa 2003

Hakeem from FIFA Uruguay has informed us of his new Kit Making Tutorial 2. This is the second part for FIFA 2003 of his Tutorial that he made previously for the 2002 version of the game.

Featuring:

  • list of the all the kits for every team in the game
  • an explanation on how to import the kits manually (without Kit Raptor) with textures
  • tools and everything needed
  • and an explanation of the filenames of the kits

The explanation of how to import kits will also help people who want to import other stuff like faces, menus, etc.

There is a very important part of the tutorial dedicated to all the newbies out there who want to make kits, and they kind of know how, but they don't know how to use the programs (image editors) to make curved lines, yes, an important part that people just starting seem to not understand how to do.

The most used graphics programs are Paint Shop Pro and PhotoShop and that is why he made a very detailed explanation for Paint Shop Pro.The tutorial is in English and Spanish and the English Version contains an explanation for PhotoShop too.

So check out his new Kit Making Tutorial 2 over at FIFA Uruguay.

FIFA 2003 Support Centre

Since EA Sports have opened their FIFA 2003 Support Centre it has grown in popularity. It is full of useful questions and answers regarding gameplay and technical issues.

Visit the EA Support Centre

Some of the newer questions and answers they have added for FIFA 2003 include:

  • How can I change between Action and Simulation style of play?
  • Unable to see the player's name or number on their kit.
  • The game is running slowly and has occasional pauses, how can I make it run more smoothly?
  • I keep getting great chances one-on-one against the goalie. Yet I can’t get my player to chip the ball into the goal. Any suggestions?

So if you're having any problems with FIFA 2003 (and I know I have seen the above questions asked a lot in the forums), check out their great new FIFA 2003 Support Centre. You can also find support for all your older FIFA games from FIFA 97 up to FIFA 2003.

Gloves are off in battle of the football franchises

FIFA 2003 has edged ahead of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2 at UK retail this week, with the titles reversing last weeks positions at number one and two respectively in the charts as the battle between the two biggest football franchises continues to rage.

FIFA's success is no doubt assisted by the fact that it's a multi-platform title, featuring strongly in charts for PS2, GameCube, Xbox, PSone and PC alike, while PES2 is firmly single-platform, with only a PS2 version available at present. However, it's worth noting that FIFA 2003 outsold PES2 this week on PS2 alone as well as in overall sales.

Time after Tyne
Expect rumours of 'Lee Clark to sign for Newcastle' to resurface. Geordies has been assuming for ages that he will return to his first club and now he says he's considering a move from Fulham in January.

Taylor-made success?
With many big guns knocked out, the Worthington Cup could come to Graham Taylor's aid. "We have to get some consistency in our Premiership results, we all know that, but whilst we are not doing that the two cups are going to be so important," he says

'I would hate it, absolutely hate it....'
Gary Neville says he cannot bear to contemplate defeat to City on Saturday: "We need to quieten their supporters. There is no more magnificent feeling than hearing a pin drop at away grounds." And you can never silence an Old Trafford crowd...

If it's Thursday it must be Wednesday
New Wednesday boss Chris Turner wants to turn the club into the best in Yorkshire. He faces some really stiff opposition for that title!?!

A trip to the Seasiders
Sean Thornton caused a bit of a storm amongst Tranmere fans by training with Sunderland whilst he was still under contract with Rovers. After all that fuss, Thornton hasn't started for Sunderland and has now gone on loan to Blackpool.

(Monkey) Hangin' Around
Now Chris Turner's left Hartlepool, who will replace him? Chris Waddle, who may fancy a return to management, and Nigel Clough (whose name is linked with every job however unlikely his chances) represent early names in the frame.

The ultimate insult for Keegan?

Fenerbahce crashed Galatasaray

Derby games don’t come much bigger then this. Fenerbahce Vs. Galatasaray, the ultimate Turkish derby.

What we had? 60,000 fans, cell-phone who been thrown towards Gala. Bench, an egg who hit one of Gala. Players who took a corner kick, and even a knife (!!) thrown into the pitch, and off course the usual 2 red cards and some yellow ones, but above all: an amazing victory for Fener, six to zero against old rival Galatasaray.

Febr vs Gala

That victory in Istanbul, took Fenerbahce to fourth from eighth in the Turkish Super League.

Fenerbahחe moved to 19 points from ten games, leaving them seven points behind first-placed Galatasaray with a game in hand. The home team took the lead after just ten minutes through youngster Tuncay Sanli. Argentina playmaker Ortega then made it two six minutes before half-time.

Fenere looked in command at the interval but were rocked when Ortega was sent off on 58 minutes. However, rather than lead to a Galatasaray revival, Fenerbahce powered forward and added four more goals. It was a stunning display against a team that had yet to be beaten in domestic action this season.

Akin Serhat hit a quick-fire double on 69 and 75 minutes, before Eris Ceyhun made it four with eleven minutes to play. The final goal of the night came from mit ײzat thre minutes from time, just after Galatasaray were reduced to ten men themselves with Emre Asik's dismissal.

This defeat was not ideal preparation for Galatasaray, who have an important UEFA Champions League fixture against FC Barcelona next Wednesday. The Turkish club must win, and hope that Club Brugge fail to beat Lokomotiv Moscow.

Fifa 2003 interview with EA

Over at the CubeZone (a Dutch Nintendo GameCube site) they have posted a recent interview with Matt Bilbey of EA. Some of the questions you can find the answers to include:

  • You've stated that FIFA Football 2003 is the first FIFA-game since the start of the series that has been totally built from scratch. Can you describe the amount of work building a game such as FIFA from scratch takes?
  • Can you tell us more about the FIFA Council with professional soccer players? Are you planning to create a (FIFA) Council for future FIFA-games and/or other EA Sports titles, too?
  • Why isn't the Dutch National Team in the game? (that old chestnut!)
  • How did you decide which teams should have realistic faces, and which teams shouldn't?
  • and there's more...

Pay them a visit over at the CubeZone to see Matt's replies to the above questions and more regarding Fifa 2003.

Welcome back Babbel
Markus Babbel is set to start his first game in 15 months against Southampton in the Worthington Cup. Keeper Chris Kirkland will also be in the starting XI.

Goodbye McCarthy
By the time you read this Mick McCarthy may well have quit his job at Republic of Ireland coach. It may not be too late for that interview at Hillsborough.

Pay on the day at Chelsea
Gillingham fans can pay on the day for the cup game at Stamford Bridge, although at £25 a pop, perhaps it's not too surprising the Gills only sold two-thirds of their allocation.

Low turnout from Leeds
Another team likely to have spaces in the away section are Leeds at Sheffield United. With fans far from happy with life at Elland Road, some 2,300 will make the short journey to Bramall Lane. Diehards or gluttons for punishment?

Hignett hoping to stay
Craig Hignett knows the chances of getting a first team game at Blackburn are between slim and remote, so he's hoping his loan spell at Coventry may become something more permanent.

Now U better believe them
One Worthington Cup game that is likely to pack 'em in is Oxford v Aston Villa. A defeat could be one bad result too many for beleaguered Villa boss Graham Taylor but the Us have just lost two on the bounce.

Israel Premier League review

Only two days after they hammered Manchester United 3-0 in the Champions League, Maccabi Haifa came back to the Israeli Premier League and knocked down 4-0 by Beitar Jerusalem.

Israel premier league roundup

Beitar Jerusalem, who stood with their back against the wall before that game, after loosing 4 games in a row, have been aggressive from the first whistle.

Maccabi Haifa’s (Israel’s champion in the past 2 seasons) players might have been too tired or too vain, but nevertheless, Beitar have played an excellent game and took Haifa out with 2 goals by the Polish striker, Andjei Kubice, a goal by Zohar, and finally by the Brazilian defender Fereira.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv (cup holders in the past 2 seasons) was the one who benefits the most from Haifa’s first lost of points this season, when winning 1-0 over Ashdod FC, from a goal by Tal Banin, which took them into the 1st place, with the same points as Haifa, but with a better goals difference.

Both Maccabi Haifa (Tuesday) and Hapoel Tel-Aviv (Monday) have another game to complete, so they could pass over Maccabi Tel-Aviv and take over the first place.

One more year of FIFA

Well it seems once more that the FIFA mania has just started.

But this time with lotīs of new things, not has the game evolved in a astonishing way, but the community surrounding the FIFA series has also growth and become better. Just some years ago the first steps of FIFA where being made true and we could just change shirts, boots colors inside the game. Well in these days we can create new in-game intros, change the graphics format, make our leagues, create our teams supporters, import real characters to the game, change almost everything in the game, but all this was unimaginable some time ago.

Well then, this makes me wonder, where are we going? are we ever going to stop? Will the FIFA evolution and the FIFA mania ever stop? Well I hope this answer is just as simple as this "We will never stop growing", so we can each time become a bigger and bigger community, so we can bring more quality to the game.

So now we can just wait and see what does the future reserves us and for this season of FIFA Football 2003.
