English Premier League Review

Our official English Premiership reporter Salman Khalid brings us all the latest news from yesterday's matches.

English Premier League Review

Aston Villa 1
Manchester City 3
Manchester City finally achieved their first away win of the season in the Barclays Premiership - and it should come as no surprise that Aston Villa were on the receiving end. Former Villa striker Darius Vassell, Joey Barton and Sylvain Distin were on target for Stuart Pearce’s side but it was an impressive all-round performance.
Bolton Wanderers 0
Chelsea 1
Jose Mourinho may not enjoy facing Bolton Wanderers but he does like the Reebok Stadium as the Chelsea manager saw his team keep the pressure on Manchester United at the top of the table with a narrow win.A goal from Michael Ballack was enough to seal victory on the ground where the Blues boss celebrated his first Barclays Premiership title two years ago.
Fulham 2
Arsenal 1
Arsenal continued to falter in their efforts to get back into the title race as they were sunk by an electrifying start from Fulham at Craven Cottage. Two goals in the first 20 minutes from Brian McBride and Tomasz Radzinski fired the hosts into a deserved 2-0 lead before Robin van Persie's superb free-kick gave the Gunners hope.
Liverpool 0
Portsmouth 0
Liverpool's inconsistent Barclays Premiership form continued as they were held to a goalless draw by a stubborn Portsmouth side in a game of few chances.
Manchester United 3
Everton  0

Much-changed Manchester United took another step forward in their bid to land the Barclays Premiership title with a comprehensive victory over Everton. Cristiano Ronaldo put the Red Devils in front before the break, before Patrice Evra, with his first for the club, and John O’Shea netted to maintain a three-point lead over Chelsea.

CEP07 Miniheads addon launched

CEP Career Expansion PatchWe are starting a new addon for the CEP07 that will feature a huge collection of miniheads, i.e. the faces shown in the GUI menu of Fifa. What we are collecting are photos of the faces of the players that we will elaborate with artistical effect to add them in the game. So if you want to collaborate with your favourite team players pictures, just collect them from their team official site, name the picture with the name of the player and send them to fifaock @ yahoo.it or esterry88 @ yahoo.fr or just post the zip on CEP forums.

Here is an example of how the elaborated miniheads are:

more screens in game coming, and a new section on CEP homepage will be added showing the progress status of the work.

FIFA 07 News - Hungarian teacher hands out gaming lesson

FIFA 07 News - Hungarian teacher hands out gaming lessonThe FIFA Interactive World Cup arrived in Hungary at the weekend as the Polus Centre, ten minutes outside the historic city of Budapest, played host to the national qualifier event.

Eventually, after two days of frenetic action featuring 241 competitors, only two were left: 21-year-old David Szenegeto from Szigetszentmiklos and 27-year-old high school teacher Donat Petroczi of Budapest. Yet there was a distinctly English flavour to the match, with David's Manchester United lining up against Donat's Chelsea in a virtual warm-up for Sunday's top-of-the-table Premiership clash.

Find out all about how Donat Petroczi fought his way to victory in Budapest by clicking here.

Afterwards, the teacher reflected on his achievement and paid tribute to the tournament. "The FIFA Interactive World Cup is the best football gaming competition in the world," he said. "In 2004 and 2005, I got down to the final three competitors but this year I am the Hungarian champion. It's brilliant. Now I can't wait to go Amsterdam and compete in the FIFA Interactive World Cup Grand Final."

Remember, if you attended this event and recorded your progress in video, then you can upload it at our brand new FIFA Interactive World Cup 06 YouTube group and we will feature it here for you.

New addons incoming for CEP

CEP Career Expansion PatchIn the first day of CEP07 release we already reached more than 5.500 downloads only from the primary download mirror, and we are very satisfied of this together with the fact that no crashing processes have been segnalated. Of course we are already at work for improving the CEP on the basis of your suggestions. Now, there are a bunch of news on the project that I will try to synthetize.

For first, the Downloads page has been updated with the last mirrors and with the first addons of the CEP3.0: the CEP Italian language addon by Fifaccitiu, the CEP Gameplay patch (to make the game harder) and the EA gameplay patch (to go back at any time to the original EA gameplay settings). About the addons we hope to see soon the fruits of a new type of collaboration with the other fifa communities: the excellent Fifa Benelux joined the CEP family with an ambitious and revolutionary project: do the first complete addon patch for CEP. This addon will be a Dutch Addon that will require CEP 3.0 installation and that will add more updated rosters, kits, graphical elements, stadiums and faces for the Dutch leagues! All the editors are the welcome to contact me to experiment this new form of addons for CEP that can focus on single leagues with more detail, and you can find more info in the faqs and the readme included in the CEP installation. Gathering all these addons in the main CEP would be impossible to the fifa.fat limitation (especially regarding the faces), so this is a good away to improve the collaboration with other communities helping the support of CEP with addons exclusive for the member communities.

A new project joined officially the official CEP releases, the CEP Chants Addon created and coordinated by Esterry; you can find details about this addons in the new section of CEP website dedicated to CEP Chants Addon. An huge update has been done by myself to Release and Status sections too, to keep trace of what you can wait in the next months by CEP staff. To summarize into few fords for the Christmas period you will receive the gift of the 3.1 update (details in Release page) that will include a Creation Master Addon for CEP developed with Rinaldo that will allow you to edit the graphical elements, the gui and much many other things of the CEP db. New projects will be disveiled soon while new members are joining, sharing their efforts and talent to improve Fifa 2007. In the meanwhile enjoy the CEP 3.0 together with Kits Addon 4.0 and help us fixing and improving using the CEP forums.

FIFA 07 News - Xbox 360 ReviewOver at Macca's Sports Gaming Page you can check out his recent review of the Xbox 360 version of FIFA 07. In summary:

The Good:

  • Unscripted ball physics and free-flowing dribbling
  • Crisp HD graphics
  • Lag-free online play

The Bad:

  • AI not as good as the current-gen Xbox version

UEFA Champions League Review - Matchday 5

Following yesterday's matches, we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

UEFA Champions League Review
Group E
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Steaua Bucharest 1
Dynamo Kiev 1
FC Steaua Bucuresti booked their place in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup after coming from behind to earn a draw at home to FC Dynamo Kyiv in Group E. Nicolae Dica cancelled out Florin Cernat's first-half free-kick with an exquisite strike on 69 minutes.
Real Madrid 2
Lyon 2
Olympique Lyonnais secured first place in UEFA Champions League Group E despite letting a two-goal lead slip at Real Madrid CF, although it took Grégory Coupet's last-minute penalty save from Ruud van Nistelrooy to preserve their point. Needing a draw to win the group, Lyon swept into a 2-0 lead by the 31st minute, exposing some static Madrid defending with strikes from John Carew and Florent Malouda. The Spanish side quickly rallied, however, and former Lyon midfielder Mahamadou Diarra headed a goal in the 39th minute before Van Nistelrooy levelled from close range seven minutes from time. The Dutch forward then earned a penalty whose successful conversion would have meant the group winners being decided on Matchday 6, but Coupet dived to his left to keep out the spot-kick.
Group F
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Celtic 1
Manchester United 0
Celtic FC have progressed past the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in four attempts after a sensational finish against Manchester United FC. With ten minutes left the 0-0 scoreline looked good enough to take United through with a game to spare. But then Shunsuke Nakamura curled in a stunning free-kick, and although the visitors were awarded a penalty at the end when Shaun Maloney handled a Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick, Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc saved Louis Saha's effort to send the local fans into raptures.
Benfica 3
Copenhagen 1
SL Benfica moved within two points of the Group F summit after an explosive first-half performance earned them a convincing 3-1 victory over FC København. There was no coming back for the Danish champions after first-half goals from Léo and Fabrizio Miccoli (2) established a winning advantage for Benfica. Although Marcus Allbäck netted an 89th-minute consolation.
Group G
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
CSKA Moscow 0
Porto 2
Just as they did two years ago, FC Porto defeated PFC CSKA Mosvka on Matchday 5 of the UEFA Champions League to give themselves an excellent chance of reaching the knockout stages while dealing a serious blow to their Russian rivals.
Arsenal 3
Hamburg 1
Arsenal FC needed late goals from Emmanuel Eboué and Julio Baptista to end Hamburger SV's resistance and secure a significant win in UEFA Champions League Group G, ensuring last season's runners-up will qualify for the knockout stages if they avoid defeat at FC Porto on Matchday 6.
Group H
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Lille 2
Anderlecht 2
RSC Anderlecht are out of the UEFA Champions League despite two fantastic Mbo Mpenza equalisers against a LOSC Lille Métropole team who now require a result at AC Milan to stand a chance of joining the Rossoneri in the knockout rounds.
AEK Athens 1
AC Milan 0
Having ended a 22-game wait for a UEFA Champions League victory last time out, AEK Athens FC maintained their winning habit by defeating AC Milan 1-0, although the Rossoneri still advanced to the knockout rounds as Group H winners because the other match in France finished level.

CEP07 Betatesting finishing

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe betatesting of CEP07 3.0 for Fifa 2007 is about to finish during this week: the betatesters team did an amazing work of bugs finding and fixing, with a lot of segnalations for more realism and to be sure that you can play the most updated version of the leagues and tournaments included. After so much testing I'm very proud to affirm that you will play a version of CEP for the wonderful version of this year of Fifa, mainly bugs-less, able to work for all the 15 default years of career of the game and without any crash or strange working. So most probably the date of release can be anticipated by some days, expect to be able to download the CEP 3.0 during the next week, most probably the first days. Stay tuned for more news.

FIFA 07 News - England FIWC 2006 victory in Sao Paolo

FIFA 07 News - England FIWC 2006 victory in Sao PaoloThey say that many footballers wish they were film stars, and some have even given it a try with precious little success. But on Saturday, the players had their moment on the Big Screen - even if they didn't know about it!

Giant screens that normally show the latest movies from Hollywood superstars like Russell Crowe and Tom Cruise, were instead illuminated with the virtual footballers of EA Sports' FIFA 07. And the directors of the action were not Spielberg or Scorcese, but the best footballing video gamers in all of Brazil in the 2006 FIFA Interactive World Cup.

Find out all about how 15-year-old local boy Andre Casagrande Buffo fought his way to victory in Sao Paolo by clicking here.

After the match, he could hardly contain his joy. "What makes it so special is that I am able to achieve things in gaming that I would never be able to on a real football pitch."

"The tournament was great," enthused Andre, "It was a fantastic experience and I am just really pleased that all my practice and strategy paid off when it mattered most."

Andre raised his usual five hours of practice per day to eight in preparation for the event, and it clearly paid off. He wouldn't say how many hours a day he would be putting in on the virtual training pitch in the build up to the Grand Final in December but, judging by his dominant form on Saturday, he will be a force to be reckoned with in Amsterdam.

Remember, if you attended this event and recorded your progress in video, then you can upload it at our brand new FIFA Interactive World Cup 06 YouTube group and we will feature it here for you.

Thierry Henry stepped off the bench to inspire Arsenal's recovery as they earned a point against Newcastle United. The brilliant Frenchman was introduced as a second-half substitute when his team were trailing 1-0 - and promptly curled in a free-kick to level on 70 minutes.Arsenal were left light at the back following a free-kick, and were caught on the break.A flick-on from Obafemi Martins put Kieron Dyer into space on the edge of the area.Emmanuel Eboue was tracking him - but the England midfielder took control of the ball, turned and coolly dispatched a low strike into the bottom right-hand corner.

Reading 2
Charlton Athletic 0
Les Reed's managerial debut ended in disappointing defeat after his Charlton Athletic side were out-played at Reading.Goals from Seol Ki-Hyeon and Kevin Doyle wrapped up a second straight home win for Steve Coppell’s side and left the Addicks exactly where they had been under Iain Dowie - at the bottom of the Barclays Premiership table.

Houston Dynamos 1

Houston wins 4-3 on penalties

Houston Dynamo were crowned Major League Soccer champions Sunday afternoon, winning a rugged and hard fought match 4-3 on penalty kicks in Frisco, Texas.

The first 90 minutes provided few scoring opportunities as both teams kept it tight in the back. The game began to open up in extra time, as the players were tiring. Taylor Twellman scored what looked to be the match-winning goal in the 113th minute of play. Khano Smith made a surging run down the middle of the park, playing Twellman into space behind the Dynamo defence. Twellman coolly tucked in a left footed shot into the far corner of the Houston goal.

The New England celebration was short lived though. Houston leveled the score right from the kickoff as Brian Ching headed in a cross from Brian Mullan one minute and six seconds after Twellman’s goal. Houston threatened the Revolution goal in the last minutes of overtime with a flurry of corner kicks.

Penalty kicks saw Houston’s Kelly Gray and New England’s Shalrie Joseph convert in round one. The Dynamo’s Stuart Holden and Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis converted the second round of penalties. Dwayne De Rosario gave Houston a 3-2 lead as New England’s Pat Noonan put his shot over the bar. Reis gave the Revolution a chance to level the penalty shootout when he dove right to save from Brad Davis. Taylor Twellman buried his shot to tie the shootout at 3-3. The final round of penalties provided the finishing touches to a wild match. Dynamo striker Brian Ching scored to put Houston up 4-3. New England defender Jay Heaps stepped up to the spot, but his shot rolled harmlessly into the diving arms of Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstand, setting off a spirited celebration.

Chelsea 4
Watford 0
A superb hat-trick from in-form Didier Drogba put Chelsea 3 points behind Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premiership.Chelsea smashed four at home for the second successive game as they cruised to a comfortable victory over struggling newcomers Watford. The irresistible Drogba took his tally to 14 with his second treble of the season and set up Chelsea’s other goal for strike partner Andriy Shevchenko. The win made it 50 league games without defeat at Stamford Bridge for the Blues and Drogba was inspirational from the start.
Everton 0
Aston Villa 1
Chris Sutton's maiden goal for Aston Villa secured his club's first away league win of the season.Veteran Sutton struck with a neat header just before the break and Villa fought gallantly throughout the second period to hang on to the points.
Manchester City 0
Newcastle United 0
Manchester City extended their run of home clean sheets to six but failed to score the decisive goal to beat Newcastle United in a goalless draw at the City of Manchester Stadium. The draw keeps the Magpies in the bottom three, but ends a run of three consecutive away defeats.
Middlesbrough 1
West Ham United 0
Massimo Maccarone came off the bench to claim a much-needed victory for Middlesbrough over West Ham United. The £8.15million Italian struck with 15 minutes remaining to settle a game which had limped through the first half but increased in tempo the longer it went on.
Portsmouth 1
Fulham 1

Substitute Andy Cole's second goal of his Portsmouth career rescued a point for Harry Redknapp's side after a combination of Antti Niemi's saves, the frame of his goal and dogged resistance looked set to give Fulham victory. Defender Zat Knight’s 56th-minute header which put Fulham in front was against the run of play after Kanu missed a sitter, former Fulham star Sean Davis headed against a post and Finland goalkeeper Niemi defied Lomana LuaLua and Kanu. But ex-Fulham striker Cole, 35, struck his former club’s crossbar soon after his 66th-minute arrival from the bench and pulled Pompey back level with 16 minutes to go. Cole’s second attempt to stab the ball over the line just made it - with Fulham believing Niemi had the ball in his grasp as he was challenged on the floor by Kanu.

Sheffield United 2
Bolton Wanderers 1
Sheffield United salvaged a remarkable point with two goals in three minutes to leave Barclays Premiership high-flyers Bolton Wanderers without a win in four matches.Manager Sam Allardyce's side seemed poised to end their three-game winless streak with goals either side of the interval from El-Hadji Diouf and Kevin Davies. But United's leading scorer Rob Hulse first offered hope with his fourth goal of the season before an astonishing strike from Colin Kazim-Richards soon after hauled the Blades level.
Wigan Athletic 3
Charlton Athletic 2
Super sub Matt Jackson sealed Wigan Athletic's fourth successive Barclays Premiership victory as the home side made the most of wild and windswept conditions against Charlton Athletic. Jackson headed Wigan’s third goal in the 78th minute just three minutes after arriving on the pitch in a bid to prevent Charlton danger-man Darren Bent grabbing an equaliser. Arjan de Zeeuw had scored an own goal in the 52nd minute under pressure from Bent to give the Addicks hope after Lee McCulloch and Henri Camara struck to give the home side a commanding half-time advantage. Marcus Bent hit an injury-time consolation for the visitors.

Reading 3
Tottenham Hotspur 1
Reading's run of five consecutive defeats came to an end with a victory over Tottenham Hotspur inspired by midfielder Steve Sidwell.Another defeat looked on the cards for the hosts when Robbie Keane gave Spurs the lead from the penalty spot at the Madejski Stadium, but Steve Coppell’s side were ahead by half-time in front of a record attendance of 24,110 at the ground.Nicky Shorey drilled in a leveller after 38 minutes and Sidwell finished from close range, before Kevin Doyle wrapped up the points late on.

English Premier League Review

Our official English Premiership reporter Salman Khalid brings us all the latest news from this weekend's matches.

English Premier League Review
Saturday 04 November 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
Bolton Wanderers 0
Wigan Athletic 1
Lee McCulloch stepped off the bench and handed Wigan Athletic their second away win on the trot. The Scotland striker took advantage of his chance in the 79th minute after replacing the injured Emile Heskey.
Charlton Athletic 1
Manchester City 0
Darren Bent scored again as Charlton Athletic clung on for only their second win of the season and Manchester City failed to end their away-day misery.
Fulham 1
Everton 0
Claus Jensen's deflected second-half goal extended Everton's barren run at Fulham beyond 40 years.
Liverpool 2
Reading 0
Liverpool's rehabilitation from their mixed early season form continued apace with their fourth victory at Anfield in 11 days thanks to two goals from Dirk Kuyt.
Manchester United 3
Portsmouth 0
Sir Alex Ferguson got the 20th anniversary present he was looking for at Old Trafford as Manchester United ripped Portsmouth to shreds and opened up a three-point lead over Chelsea. Two goals up after 10 minutes courtesy of a Louis Saha penalty and Cristiano Ronaldo’s blistering free-kick, the Red Devils pounded the Pompey area throughout and only the heroics of goalkeeper David James kept the score down.Even James could do little about Nemanja Vidic’s second United goal as the Serbian rose to meet Gary Neville’s cross and power home his side’s third midway through the second half.
Newcastle United 0
Sheffield United 1

Sheffield United striker Danny Webber increased the pressure on Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder as his header snatched three points at St James' Park. Webber powered a 68th-minute Nick Montgomery cross past the helpless Steve Harper to hand the Blades their first away goal in the league and a first victory in four games and send the Magpies into 19th place in the table.

Watford 2
Middlesbrough 0
Watford claimed their first league win of the season at the 11th attempt by overcoming Middlesbrough. An own-goal in the sixth minute from Jonathan Woodgate - he deflected Hameur Bouazza's shot into his own net - and a confident finish after 59 minutes from Ashley Young were enough to help Adrian Boothroyd's men to three points at the 11th attempt.
Sunday 05 November 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
Aston Villa 2
Blackburn Rovers 0
Aston Villa climbed back into the top six after an inspired performance by Gabriel Agbonlahor helped them to overcome Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park.A Gareth Barry penalty and leading scorer Juan Pablo Angel’s sixth goal of the campaign were sufficient to end a four-game run without a league victory.
Tottenham Hotspur 2
Chelsea 1
Aaron Lennon's second half strike secured a first ever Barclays Premiership win for Tottenham Hotspur and caused 10-man Chelsea to lose ground in the title race.Chelsea had taken an early lead through Claude Makelele's stunning long-range effort, but were pegged back before the break by Michael Dawson's first goal in Spurs colours.Lennon then gave his side the lead before Blues skipper John Terry was sent off for a second bookable offence in a pulsating encounter.
West Ham United 1
Arsenal 0
Marlon Harewood came off the bench to score a late winner against Arsenal at Upton Park as West Ham United secured a second consecutive victory.

CEP07 betatesting news

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe betatest of CEP07 version 3.0 has started, and we already found and solved some main problems of compatibility with some video cards: to assure that CEP will work on the totality of Fifa users PCs we decided to renounce to 2gk kits to choice 1gk instead. The 2007 engine regarding the kits seem a bit more complicated than the 2006 so this choice is to assure that your version of CEP07 will work; the 2007 engine anyway does a brilliant work with mipmaps scaling and this sort of stuff, so the game will be delightiful for the eyes in this format too.

The results of an intensive betatesting of course are extremely precious to have a bugsfree and very realistic first version of CEP 3.0 without the needing of any fix, this is why even if we reached almost 30 very qualified betatesters we are still looking for betatesters to collaborate with the following leagues: Germany (lower divisions too), Scotland (premier and first division), France (both divisions) and Spain (both divisions). We need them to provide precise rosters and leagues without problems: if you fell that we can start betatesting in a collaborative way (download of beta is about 700 mb) please contact me at fifaock @ yahoo.it

As was previously announced the CEP 3.0 will contain almost the same leagues of the last CEP06 release, of course with all the updates to current season rosters and leagues composition (relegated teams etc.) and you can find this list in the Release page that I have updated with the stuff you will find in CEP 3.0 (soon a list of CEP 4.0 release that will be ready in first months of 2007). As we're testing since a week deeply with fifa 2007 I have to admit that this game, properly expanded with CEP, is really really good: with all its improvements to the gameplay and to the management of transfers and teams rosters during the career I'm almost sure that this is the best football simulation released.

We're planning, together with the excellent Esterry, some new addons that you will find during this year for CEP releases (more than the usual massive and constant increasing of leagues, competitions and teams): first of all we plan to release an huge and massive (optional) chants addons for CEP, with original crowds chants not only for the Fifa 2007 teams but for the new CEP teams too. You will find an extremely expanded goalkeepers kits section too since the very first release of CEP07; CEP will contain 250 new adboards, 55 new balls and 54 new boots too. For the immediate future we plan to start working on the game miniheads too, that sadly are maybe one of the very few negative aspects of Fifa 2007. Many users asked for custom faces implementation, but this is still related to the persistent problem of fifa.fat dimension: the faces make growing the fifa.fat and so we still can be able to plan an extended work on this. We are studying the way to implement, since 2007, the compatibility of CEP with optionals stadiums addons, probably in collaboration with some Fifa communities dedicated to this purpose

Of course the work of rosters update will be the main objective for the future of CEP: we'll reach a point (a think during this year) in which we'll stop creating new leagues, but each season and each transfer window we'll need to check the transfers and update with precision the teams. What we reached until now has been possible thanks to the collaboration of many football fans that submitted their updates, as not every team and every league as a good website to update the transfers. If you think you can be able to help us with news on transfers of your league, or if you know a good website where to find transfers update for a league please contact me at fifaock @ yahoo.it as we need your collaboration. In the meanwhile I've updated the section Join CEP with a complete table of the leagues included in CEP and their update status: if you see that a league is not updated to the present season and you know how to find informations about it, please contact me.

The work of collaborators and new members is absolutely indispensable for the growth of CEP: consider the example of our friend Esterry, who proposed himself to give an help months ago and now, having worked hard for his football passion, is the organizator and responsable of all the database contributions, he started a work for chants, stadiums etc. If you think you can devote yourself to the CEP in your free time feel free to contact me and join us: for example if there is a minihead expert that wants to join us, he can become the responsable of the organization of the work on them etc.

A last work about CEP06: support for 2006 is no long provided as we have to focus on CEP 2007, but in the meanwhile we found the solution for a bug with Brazilian serie B teams and World Club Championship that affected only some Fifa2006 versions (mostly south american ones): you can find the fix that corrects this in the Downloads page.

UEFA Champions League Review - Matchday 4

Following yesterday's matches, we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

UEFA Champions League Review
Group E
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Lyon 1
Dynamo Kiev 0
Olympique Lyonnais booked their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League for the fourth successive season as Karim Benzema's early goal maintained their 100 per cent record in Group E with a hard-fought victory against FC Dynamo Kyiv.
Real Madrid 1
Steaua Bucharest 0
A calamitous own goal from midfielder Banel Nicolita cost FC Steaua Bucuresti a share of the spoils at Real Madrid CF as the Spanish side progressed into the UEFA Champions League knockout stages.
Group F
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Benfica 3
Celtic 0
SL Benfica took advantage of another bout of travel sickness from Celtic FC to rekindle their UEFA Champions League ambitions with a comfortable win in Lisbon. Twenty-four hours after Halloween it was a nightmare evening for Celtic defender Gary Caldwell who, in the opening 22 minutes, scored an own goal and then let in Nuno Gomes to establish an advantage which Benfica never looked like relinquishing. Substitute Andrei Karyaka completed the scoring in the closing stages as Benfica moved within two points of second-placed Celtic in Group F.
Copenhagen 1
Manchester United 0
A Marcus Allbäck goal seventeen minutes from time gave FC København their first UEFA Champions League victory at the expense of Group F rivals Manchester United FC. The match looked destined for a goalless draw when the Sweden striker pounced on Atiba Hutchinson's header to prod the ball over the line following a corner. With SL Benfica beating Celtic FC 3-0 in Lisbon, the group has been thrown open with København moving to the four-point mark, two adrift of second-placed Celtic and five behind United.

Arsenal 0
CSKA Moscow 0
PFC CSKA Moskva retained first place in UEFA Champions League Group G after holding Arsenal FC to a goalless draw, but the London side had only themselves to blame after squandering a series of excellent chances.
Hamburg 1
Porto 3
FC Porto are in firm contention to reach the UEFA Champions League knockout stages as they claimed victory at Hamburger SV to effectively end the German club's wretched European campaign. A spectacular Lucho González strike right before half-time put the visitors in the driving seat and Lisandro López doubled the lead after an hour. Rafael van der Vaart's header kept Hamburg's dreams alive, but the last word came from Porto substitute Bruno Moraes.

UEFA Champions League Review - Matchday 4

Following yesterday's matches, we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

UEFA Champions League Review
Group A
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Barcelona 2
Chelsea 2
An added-time equaliser from Didier Drogba denied European champions FC Barcelona what would have been a valuable victory in UEFA Champions League Group A and kept unbeaten Chelsea FC clear in the standings. Deco had given the home side an early lead and, although Frank Lampard equalised seven minutes into the second period, Barça looked on course for their first win in three European matches when their summer signing from Chelsea, Eidur Gudjohnsen, prodded in just before the hour. Three minutes into stoppage time, however, Drogba turned in John Terry's header to cut short the home celebrations.
Levski Sofia 0
Werder Bremen 3
Werder Bremen continued their impressive goalscoring form to hand another heavy defeat to PFC Levski Sofia and move up to second place in Group A. This win means the holders slip to third ahead of their Matchday 5 meeting with Levski, when Chelsea visit Germany.
Group B

Spartak Moscow 0
Inter Milan 1
Julio Cruz again proved to be FC Spartak Moskva's nemesis, taking his tally to three goals in two games with the winner at the Luzhniki Stadium as FC Internazionale Milano's Group B revival continued.
Bayern Münich 0
Sporting 0
Injury-hit FC Bayern München booked their place in the UEFA Champions League last 16 as they held on for a goalless draw with Sporting Clube de Portugal in an open encounter in Germany.
Group C

Liverpool 3
Bordeaux 0
Luis García struck twice and Steven Gerrard scored for the first time this season as Liverpool FC booked their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League with a convincing 3-0 win against ten-man FC Girondins de Bordeaux in Group C at Anfield. With victory for PSV Eindhoven elsewhere in the section, the top two places will now be decided between the Premiership side and PSV in the remaining two Matchdays.
PSV 2
Galatasaray 0
Timmy Simons and Arouna Koné scored second-half goals as PSV Eindhoven defeated Galatasaray SK 2-0 to secure one of the two qualifying spots on offer from UEFA Champions League Group C.
Group D
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Shakhtar Donetsk 2
Valencia 2
Valencia CF qualified for the UEFA Champions League knockout stages with two games to spare after they twice came from behind to earn a Group D point at FC Shakhtar Donetsk. Jadson Rodriguez and Fernandinho claimed their first goals in the tournament either side of a strike from Fernando Morientes to put the Ukrainian champions in the driving seat at the break and on course for victory. But Roberto Ayala salvaged a draw for the visitors with a second-half header to spoil Shakhtar's hopes of marking their 100th game in UEFA club competition with a win, while Olympiacos CFP holding AS Roma at least keeps their mathematical chances alive.
AS Roma 1
Olympiacos 1
AS Roma's hopes of progressing to the UEFA Champions League knockout stages suffered a setback as a resilient Olympiacos CFP left the Italian capital with what could prove to be a valuable point. The Italian side had strengthened their position in Group D with a narrow win in Athens on Matchday 3, yet the Greek champions took an unexpected lead here thanks to Júlio César's towering header midway through the first half. The hosts began to commit more men forward and eventually unpicked the visiting defence six minutes past the hour when captain Francesco Totti - who had earlier missed a penalty - levelled, but they were unable to find the second goal which would have confirmed their berth in the last 16.
