Polzeath boy to play in Table Bar Football National Finals

Ten year old Daniel Witts (my son) from Polzeath, UK will represent Plymouth Argyle FC in this years national final for Table Bar Football at Elland Road, Leeds on 27th March.

ScreenshotsClick for larger imageClick for larger image

Table Bar Football is a great game where each player controls four bars for goalkeeper, defence, midfield and attack. It is a fast paced game but also allows for great levels of skill and tactics.

This national tournament is sponsored by international toy company Smoby and brings together all the countries professional football teams in heats around the UK culminating this year in the national final at Elland Road, Leeds on March 27th.

Daniel from St Minver school has been a keen table bar football player for three years and this is now his 3rd year representing Plymouth Argyle in this national inter football club tournament.

This year he won his school competition, then he won the heat at Plymouth Argyle and then represented Plymouth at Swindon in the South West Area Finals. We wish him the best of luck as we depart for Leeds today.

Batty's back and injured
No sooner had Peter Reid said he was interested in playing David Batty than, you guessed it, Batty gets injured although it's not thought to be serious. Meanwhile, it's been confirmed the FA are not investigating the club's transfer deals.

Duncan Disorder?
Everton are to make an official complaint to the FA after fans 'inundated' them with calls saying referee Alan Wiley told the fourth official to 'keep an eye' on Duncan Ferguson during Sunday's game. If only those burglars had done the same...

Back to the front
Ipswich are hoping that they will receive permission for forward Darren Ambrose to return on loan from Newcastle United. Ambrose completed his move to St James' Park yesterday, a deal worth just £1 million initially to Town.

Watford go for the Chop
Watford have received a major boost ahead of their FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton next month with the news that Michael Chopra has joined them on a month’s loan. Chopra is eligible to play in the semi against Southampton.

A pint of two halves
Darlington Supporters' Trust and real ale fans have teamed up to produce a beer to celebrate 120 years of football at Feethams. The club are set to leave the ground and a brew named 'Feethams Farewell' will be launched at a beer festival on Thursday.

Newman must find a new job
Rob Newman has been shown the door by Southend United. Southend pulled clear off the drop zone on Saturday which appears to have prompted the club to make a clean break.

Sweetpatch's Soccer Snippets

Profit (and loss) for Newcastle
Newcastle United have reported a significant rise in operating profits (from £7.1m to £20.1m) over the past year although the figure fails to include the £22.5m or so spent on Viana, Bramble and Woodgate.

Stop the madness!
Both Giggs and Beckham have called for an end to early morning kick-offs. Becks said: "It's hard to know how we can beat Juventus and then draw with Bolton, with all due respect to them. It's not an excuse, but 12 o'clock kick-offs don't help."

Return to sender
People with clearly too much time on their hands have been sending threatening messages to Dion Dublin since he was sent off for Villa in that derby match against Birmingham.

Would the last one out of Highfield Road...
Julian Joachim, Dean Holdsworth and Youssef Chippo appear to have played their last games for Coventry City as the club embarks on a raft of player cuts that could see up to a dozen pros out the door.

Hammam in new Dons deals?
In another classic case of adding insult to injury, Cardiff are being linked with several Wimbledon players. Having sold the club, Sam Hammam may buy what remaining assets are left.

Pitch battle
Hartlepool boss Mike Newell is less than impressed with the state of Bristol Rovers' pitch. He said: "I don't understand it, if you play league football at any sort of level, how you can play rugby on the pitch and expect it to be okay."

Third time lucky for Hughes?
Alan Curbishley will take another look at former Gooner Stephen Hughes who looked to be set for football's scrapheap after leaving Watford last year.

There's always one...
Ac Milan defender Martin Laursen has told a Danish paper he wants to sign for Spurs and reckons there's a 'good chance' he can move on loan in the summer. At last, some welcome competition for Ben Thatcher.

No Netto for Fulham
Any remote chance that Ruud Gullit would replace Jean Tigana has gone. Gullit has been appointed as the new coach of Holland's Under 20's.

Bad news from Gillingham shock
Ever the harbinger of doom, Gills chairman Paul Scally has warned that the club could face financial disaster unless the proposed £1.5m Brian Moore Stand, which will replace the current Town End terracing, is built for the start of next season.

One out, one in at QPR
QPR have signed Everton winger Kevin McLeod on loan to replace Lee Cook who returns to Watford. His only first team outing this season came when Everton were dumped out of the cup by lower league opponents. He should feel at home at QPR then.

Dalglish - the comeback
Last spotted in a Liverpool nightclub with Jordan before jetting off to America, Paul Dalglish is back in Blighty and he's signed for Scunthorpe. Striker Paul Hayes has also signed a two-year deal with the club.

Sweetpatch's Soccer Snippets

Taylor's not for keeps
Fulham keeper Mark Taylor has told the club's official site that if Edwin Van der Saar walks straight back into the team after being sidelined through injury then Taylor will have to consider looking for a new club.

Make or break in Arsenal's group
Was Houllier right to let Jari Litmanen go? Well, given his injury problems at Ajax, perhaps it was the best option. Litmanen is sidelined again, missing the Ajax-Roma clash.

Back me or....
In light of David O'Leary saying he'd like to go back to Leeds in the circumstances were right (i.e. new chairman, millions to spend), Peter Ridsdale is calling on fans to get behind the club. Yet further cuts at the club are expected.

Millwall set for summer shake-up?
Rumours and leaks are rife at Millwall at the moment with much talk of players leaving in the summer. But Mark McGhee has dispelled speculation about Dennis Wise's immediate future at the club.

Celtic players in the clear
Three Celtic players arrested after an 'incident' with a photographer during the club's Christmas party will not face any charges. Police spoke of 'insufficient evidence'...

Copp a load of that
Exeter winger James Coppinger has been linked with Preston. But for now he's helping the Grecians stay in Division Three and the club has been revitalised under former Preston boss Gary Peters.

Keegan's clear out

Fergie's Fledglings pt.II
Darren Fletcher could be the new bright hope to come out of Manchester United's academy according to Fergie. The United boss says: "He is still skin and bone really but he has very good ability and there is a lot of common sense about his play."

Vieiri 'hurt' by racist claim
Christian Vieri has hit back at claims by Lomana Lua Lua that he hurled racist abuse at the Newcastle player: Vieri said: "It's absolutely untrue. "It's true I insulted him but with normal words that you use during a match, but not racist."

Back to the future
Preston forward David Healy will have another spell on loan at Norwich but the deal means that unless there's nothing to play he won't face Preston on the last day of the season.

Town's transfer embargo lifted
It's taken 18 months but finally the Northampton Town can wheeler-deal without the permission of the PFA.

Ground for optimism
With just days to go before the Company Voluntary Arrangement is put to the meeting of creditors of York City Association Football & Athletic Club plc, a solution to secure a home for York City for at least ten years has been agreed in principle.
