SFTLA PC League :- Ajax return with comfortable win.

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC League

Ajax got back into league action but the game was far from easy and Santos put up a good fight in the first half. Ajax was nervous in the early stages but once the fist goal went in they started to play some decent football with Ibrahimovc leading the line well up front.

Sonk rose above his markers to nod the first goal in from a corner. 2nd half and Ibrahimovic blasted no.2 in from the edge of the area on 54 mins, then the goal of the game virtually sealed the Ajax victory, a lovely move from the left ended up with a cross from Sonk who picked out Pienarr unmarked in the box and he volleyed it past the helpless Santos keeper into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

Santos continued battling away and Diego restored some hope on 77, but Ibrahimovic finished things off with a curling shot on the turn into the top corner of the goal in the dying minutes to seal Ajax a 4-1 victory.

SFTLA PC League Update :- Deportivo shock high flyers Blackburn

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC LeagueSome would say that this match was one of those straight forward affairs, but it turned out to be much much more. The game was frantic from the outset with chances for both sides.

Deportivo opened the scoring in the 25th minute from a well placed corner which was headed in by Naybet to claim his first goal of the season and the Club sitting at the bottom of the League found themselves in the lead.

Blackburn responded with gallant attacks down the wing hoping to find a breach in the Deportivo defence but the Spanish outfit held firm and kept the Blackburn attacks out.

Deportivo had a couple of counter attacks as they attempted to double the lead but Blackburn were defending in numbers and the First Half finished with Deportivo 0-1 up.

The Second Half brought more of the same with Blackburn trying desperately to find a way through the Deportivo defence for the equaliser and Deportivo soaking up the pressure and attacking on the Counter and it wasn't long before Deportivo made it 2-0 on the 60th minute with Victor striking well from the edge of the box to leave the Blackburn keeper flapping and the Deportivo Fans were ecstatic as the possibility of a Deportivo Victory was turning into a strong reality.

Despite a couple more chances for both sides the game ended 2-0 toDeportivo and the fans went crazy ,Blackburn on the other hand left the Stadium still in Shock and news quickly filtered around the other Clubs that Blackburn had been turned over by bottom of the League Deportivo.

Visit Chelsea mini siteChelsea will have to score at Highbury in two weeks time if we are to make it past Arsenal to the semi-finals without the aid of a penalty shoot-out. Eidur Gudjohnsen’s opportunistic strike early in the second-half was matched by Robert Pires’ header just six minutes later although the teams didn’t finish all-square in personnel number. Marcel Desailly saw red for second bookable offence in the closing minutes.

SFTLA PC Division 3 :- Mixed Fortunes for Ipswich Town

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC League

SFTLA Week 8 Division 3 Ipswich v Charlton

Nice clean game with no bookings , very tight 1st Half with Charlton looking the more dominant side but Ipswich defended well and kept them out.

Second Half saw Charlton step up a gear and the breakthrough came on 58mins when a long ball found a Charlton Striker in space who let fly a shot which was well saved by the Ipswich Keeper, unfortunately the rebound fell to the feet of Euell who made no mistake in slamming it home for 0-1.

Ipswich then made a tactical change of formation hoping that they could prize open the well organised Charlton defence but this left gaps for the Charlton Strikers to exploit and Jensen wrapped the game up on 87mins with a clinical finish low into the left hand corner of the Ipswich net.

Final Score :- Ipswich 0-2 Charlton

SFTLA Week 9 Division 3 Everton v Ipswich

Finally the Ipswich defence showed a marked improvement as Ipswich recorded their 1st win of the season.

Everton kicked off and two obviously nervous teams tested each other without threatening the goal at any time, the ball becoming bogged down in a midfieldbattle the deadlock was broken on 39 mins, Pablo Counago received a pass on the right wing from Jim Magilton and took off on a spring diagonally across the pitch which took him to the edge of the Everton area, then, looking like he was heading nowhere he unleashed a snap shot which looped back towards the right-hand post and over ex team mate Richard Wright in the Everton goal.

From the kick off the ball was again bogged down in a battling midfield and the half drew to a close, Ipswich leading 0-1 at the break. The second half began as a much more entertaining affair, with the Everton manager pushing his team forward to try and turn the deficit as had happened to Ipswich on the previous 3 occasions, The Ipswich manager, obviously aware ofthis also seemed to push his team on looking for the killer second goal.

Ipswich probed the Everton defence incessantly the attacks however were being superbly dealt with by Yobo and Unsworth and Ipswich could not benefit from their confidence boosting opener. The Ipswich manager, now standing right on the edge of his technical area had to be warned to calm down by the assistant referee. However, Peck continued to shout and bawl at his players and now appeared to be communicating to his skipper that his side should use the width of the Everton pitch. On 65 mins the tactic worked, but not with out a little luck. Martin Reuser, wide on the right arrowed a diagonal ball toward  midfielder Tommy Miller, who, from 20 yards turned and rifled a shot at goal, the ball beat Richard Wright but didn't beat the post, however Ipswich's luck was in and the ball returned to the on rushing Counago who calmly slotted home from 6 yards for his Second.

Ipswich made 2 substitutions immediately and replaced Alum Armstrong with Marcus Bent and Jim Magilton with Jermain Wright it took just 7 mins for Wright to have an impact on the game. And again Reuser was involved, Reuser charged down the right with the Everton defence seemingly letting him go and covering the cross, Reuser got to the by-line and crossed to the open Jermain Wright on the edge of the 'D', two Everton defenderschallenged and another slice of luck took the ball through both challenges, with Wright, into the clear he hit the ball hard and high to goal and past Richard Wright, 0-3.

That was the end of the scoring but not the action, on 79 mins Diallo, pulled Rooney down in the area but again Towns luck held, Andy Marshall guessing right to push away the resulting penalty.

Final score :- Everton 0-3 Ipswich

SFTLA PC League Update Division One

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC League

A tense affair this match was and it was based on the team who was able to handle the pressure, and within 16mins Celtic slumped with a great goal from ex rangers player Ferguson to make it 1-0 Blackburn and it wasn't long before Blackburn showed there dominance once again with Yorke getting in there too make it 2-0 on 19min and all was looking well for Blackburn as shots came firing from all angles.

Celtic looked a weak and jaded team. HT . Second Half and Celtic must have got a good bit of motivation cause within 3mins of second half Hartson score a superb goal to make it just a 1 goal deficit, Celtic were back in the cards and Blackburn weren't expecting what was to happen next 12 mins later and a cross in from Thompson finds Harston who is pulled down in the box, PENALTY Celtic and up steps Sutton who calmly puts it away 2-2.

Then unbelievably within minutes another penalty for Celtic Sutton again stepped up to the plate only this time he hit it directly at the Goalkeeper

Celtic had battled well coming from being 2-0 down to make it 2-2 and on 76min the crowd went crazy Hartson giving an easy opening and bang 3-2 CELTIC GOOOOOOOAAALLL!!!, but they could hold on to the lead ?

Pressure from Blackburn down the wing eventually paid off on 90min when a cross too Yorke and a lovely finish made it 3-3 , other shots in half were close both for Celtic and Blackburn, but 3-3 was the end score.

Both Managers happy and a little annoyed for letting goals in too easily.

Full Time Celtic 3 Blackburn 3

Primary School Football

SFTLA ForumsIs this the title of a future EA Sports footy game, no, its the title of a funny forum post in our excellent SFTLA Forums.

Primary School Football - The Rules of the Game

Matches shall be played over three unequal periods: two playtimes and lunchtime.

Each of these periods shall begin shortly after the ringing of a bell, and although a bell is also rung towards the end of these periods, play may continue for up to ten minutes afterwards, depending on the nihilism or "bottle" of the participants with regard to corporal punishment meted out to latecomers back to the classroom.

In practice there is a sliding scale of nihilism, from those who hasten to stand in line as soon as the bell rings, known as "poofs", through those who will hang on until the time they estimate it takes the teachers to down the last of their G & T's and journey from the staff room, known as "chancers", and finally to those who will hang on until a teacher actually has to physically retrieve them, known as "nutters".

This sliding scale is intended to radically alter the logistics of a match in progress, often having dramatic effects on the score line as the number of remaining participants drops. It is important, therefore, in picking the sides, to achieve a fair balance of poofs, chancers and nutters in order that the score line achieved over a sustained period of play - lunchtime, for instance - is not totally nullified by a five-minute post-bell onslaught of five nutters against one.

The score line to be carried over from the previous period of the match is in the trust of the last nutters to leave the field of play, and may be the matter of some debate. This must be resolved in one of the approved manners (see Adjudication).

Check out this full hilarious post by visiting our SFTLA Forums. Whilst you are there check out all the different forums and why not sign up and join in with all the fun.

SFTLA PC Cup Knockout 2nd Round Update

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC LeagueSFTLA Knockout Cup Round 2 :- Real Madrid v Valencia

The stage was set, as two of the Spanish Giants came head to head in the SFTLA Cup 2nd Round Game. Both would of been hoping to progress further but one great team had to give here.

It was a nervy affair with both sides not creating any clear cut chances in the 1st half hour apart from Ronaldo hitting the post from a corner, 35mins on the clock and Baraja took a first time shot which beat the Real Madrid keeper to give the away team the lead and as Real Madrid tried to equalise Valencia caught them on the counter attack and scored another in the 44th minute right on the stroke of half time.

It looked bleak for Real Madrid as Valencia have a tremendous defensive record and they needed at least 2 goals to come back into the tie. During the Half - Time Interval the Real Madrid Gaffer had strong words in the dressing room and his team took the field with hope and it wasn't long before Zidane began to show why he is the World Player of the Year, and on 57 mins he came inside from the left to strike a cracker to match Baraja's opener which gave Real Madrid a way back in the game 1-2.

This was a game of 2 halves, Valencia in control 1st and Real Madrid in control of 2nd and as Real Madrid went gung ho to get the equalising goal, Valencia came on the counter and threatened a few times but couldn't score due to great defending and a great double save by keeper Casillas.

Time was against Real Madrid now as they couldn't find their equaliser, and when Beckham sent a ball towards Ronaldo in the 85th minute he was about to turn and shoot but Ayala took his legs out totally and the Referee didn't hesitate and awarded the penalty.

The Two managers couldn't believe what was happening !...... Raul stepped up to take the spot kick... could Real Madrid find a way back in to this Cup Tie with what would surely be the last kick of the game......... With his head down and focused he charged towards the ball and let fly .... the Whole Stadium held their breath as the ball headed off towards the Goal at warp speed and then moments later "Eruption" as the Home Fans Celebrate in a Frenzy as the ball hits the back of the net 2-2.

An extraordinary come back and Real Madrid went down the field again late on but struck the effort straight into the keepers hands and that was to be the last action of this fantastic match as the Referee blew his Whistle to end the game.

Golden goal (2nd game) -An even game ended 0-0 Real Madrid had a lot of corners but couldn't convert as Canizares was in inspirational form.

Golden Goal (3rd game) - on the 8th minute Aimar struck a beauty to give the visitors the victory and a place in the 3rd round. leaving Real Madrid rueing their missed chances and unfortunately out of the Tournament.

Bolton Wanderers 0 Chelsea 2

Visit Chelsea mini siteChelsea recovered from a poor first half to score twice in three minutes and record a first ever Premiership away win at Bolton with goals from John Terry and Damien Duff.

For Sky man of the match Terry it was especially sweet as he earned revenge for the own goal back in December that helped Bolton ruin our 100% home record.

It was also a personal triumph for drafted-in keeper Marco Ambrosio, who saved well when required, always looked comfortable and must have been buoyed by the travelling Chelsea fans' supportive singing of his name.

The first period was dominated by Bolton, fired up for their first home match since the disappointment of losing the Carling Cup final. With their policy of sending the ball into the box as quickly as possible they were first to every header and loose ball.

The restored Terry/Marcel Desailly pairing (William Gallas remaining in the right-back position at which he closed the Stuttgart game) struggled to cope with the pressure.

But midfield was the main source of Chelsea’s problems. From there Bolton conducted the game at their high-tempo pace with Okocha, in particular, and Campo dominating. Not until the second half introduction of Joe Cole, and with the veteran pair tiring, did the Blues get the upper hand.

SFTLA PC League Update

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC LeagueCeltic v Chelsea

A Game that Celtic were relishing too play and from past friendly matches between these two Giants Chelsea have shocked the Boys in Green on many occasions, only this time the Celtic Manager was able to gain an important physiological edge over the Chelsea team by implying that in the previous friendly matches another Manager was in fact playing instead of the Chelsea Manager himself, this led to the Chelsea manager doing a Kevin Keegan as the implication worked and Celtic went on to win 4-0 with 2 goals from Defensive Midfielder Lennon and 1 each from Celtic's strike force Larsson and Hartson and this result keeps them firmly in the hunt for a Promotion place.

Chelsea on the other hand are finding things more and more difficult with each game that is passing and if they are so easily Psyched out from a Scottish Manager then the future doesn't look too bright at all for the London Boys.

Chelsea 0 Stuttgart 0

Visit Chelsea mini siteIt wasn’t pretty, at times it was nerve-racking, but Chelsea have scrambled into the quarter-finals of the Champions League on the strength of the Stuttgart-gifted own-goal away in Germany.

For long periods of the second-half it was a lead that looked in some danger but despite much penalty area activity, a Stuttgart attack not famed for its free-scoring failed to capitalise.

In the last ten minutes, Chelsea upped a gear, creating three good chances and striking the woodwork once. The final whistle was greeted with a cheer only surpassed by the one that followed the news of Man United’s last minute demise.

SFTLA PC Cup Knockout

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC League

Liverpool v Macclesfield

A fantastic Cup Tie with lots of goals, Liverpool sent the Home Fans crazy early on when a through ball found Owen who calmly slot the ball below the keeper, this had caught Macclesfield by total surprise but it wasn't long before the Silkmen started to gain some confidence by getting a few shots in to test the keeper, and a counter attack saw Richard Eyre shoot a thunderous effort from all of 25 yards out that Burst the Net and release the pressure on a shaken Macclesfield squad.

Some excellent passing displays from the Liverpool midfield up to the strikers continued the pressure on the Macclesfield defence, and they gained a corner near to half time. The ball was crossed into the Liverpool Giant Sami Hyppia who beat the Macclesfield defender only to see his effort crash against the bar, Macclesfield cleared it quickly and Danny Whittaker collected the clearance and set off on a wonderful run from the half way line to smash a 2nd in for the Away Side and put the Silkmen into the lead, this all in Injury Time of the First Half so as soon as the ball was kicked off again the half time whistle went.

A minor change of tactics to the Liverpool set up and no changes from Macclesfield Camp for the 2nd half. Both teams came out raring to go again for another crucial 45 minutes. Macclesfield kicked off this time and soon lost the ball, but as soon as they lost it they got it again and Chris Priest, the Macclesfield right winger, put a lovely ball through to Kyle Lightbourne who ended the display with an exquisit goal from 30 yards to leave Jerzy Dudek stranded, and extend the Silkmen's lead to 1-3.

Some good defending from both sides prevented anymore goals going in, the midfield had to be given credit from both sides as they were running the game. Then on 84 minutes Macclesfield caught Liverpool sleeping when some good passing through the defence left Danny Whittaker 1 on 1 with Dudek with Whittaker coming out the winner putting the ball into the bottom corner, and to surely seal the win for the small club from Cheshire. The final whistle came and both teams shook hands as they departed from the pitch, Liverpool knowing the should have got more out of the game but it just wasn't to be, a flattering victory for the Silkmen boys and they left Anfield to secure their place in the draw for the last 16.

Feyenoord vs Man Utd (Match Report)

What a cracker easily Feyenoords hardest game. It showed everything character, great teamwork, and good finishing. Both managers were reluctant to take nothing away and it showed. Lazovic open the scoring on 19mins then United kick started there game and came back thru Giggs and Neville (of all people, good strike too) also good passing and dodgy defending and 2-1 to United HT.

None of the managers would of expected what happened in the 2nd half. United increased there lead thru O'Shea on 66 mins then a quick reply from Persie's free kick shattered United and Lazovic scored 2 goals in 4 mins to get his hatrick and put Feyenoord 4-3 ahead. What there managers were thinking, is anyone's guess. Feyenoord were still pressing forwards and got 2 more thru Pardo and Leonardo to make it 6-3 89 mins then United showed they can score and got the last goal on 90 thru Ronaldo.

A cracker of a match and the united manager will be shocked as much as Feyenoord.

SFTLA PC League :- Blackburn v LFC - Week 4 - Division 1

Sweetpatch FTL Academy - PC League

Blackburn League Leaders and with 3 wins out of 3 were hosting at home. Also unbeaten Liverpool who have had draws with promotion favourites, Celtic  and Valencia could they pull the same result away from home too high flying Rovers?

It certainly was going to be a tall order and it was, because inside just 4mins Yorke headed home a cross from the flanks and Liverpool were on the back foot. If they wanted too stay in touch this season with the top teams they had too reply quickly and they did just that, with great movement and passing Heskey found him self put through and with only the Keeper to beat he cooly blasted the ball low past the keeper 1-1.

On 26mins Blackburn attacked in force down the flanks and a shot was rifled in that caused problems for the Liverpool Keeper a great reaction enabled him to block the shot with his legs but the resulting rebound fell to Yorke who tapped in for his 2nd and Blackburn were back in front.

Liverpool dug deep and responded well and straight away piled the pressure on and which resulted in a free-kick on a tight angle 20 yards out...Kewell stepped up and curled the ball over the wall and past the helpless Blackburn Keeper...2-2 AND GAME ON!!

The 2nd half began and was a very cagey affair with no pattern at all and both teams seemed too cancel each other out. Liverpool defended in numbers and gave Rovers no room or time to settle and Liverpool further added to Blackburn frustration by breaking quickly on the counter.

On the 69th min the floodlights went out (connection dropped) and the Home side must of been very relieved as this did not help Liverpool at all as when the match was restarted Blackburn were camped in the Liverpool goal mouth and how they didnt score from all this pressure was simply amazing but Liverpool defended solidly and re-grouped well and thoroughly deserved this draw against the League Leaders to put themselves in strong contention for Promotion.

Final Score 2-2 Keep informed of all the Action concerning our PC Leagues by visiting our SFTLA PC Leauges Area

United are Robbed

Visit Chelsea mini siteChelsea have snatched PSV's young strike sensation Arjen Robben from under the noses of Manchester United. Plus the Blues have almost tied up a deal giving them first option on ALL PSV stars.

Robben is the first to switch to London in a five-year, £12million deal, infuriating Alex Ferguson who believed he had sorted a summer swoop for the striker.

Robben said: "I think I can become a better player at Chelsea and that I can develop myself into a top European player."

Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri added: "For me, Arjen Robben will be a fantastic addition to our squad. He is quick, strong, scores goals and makes them. He can do everything. His style is perfect for the Premier League and I am very happy that he wanted to come to us."

In January, United boss Ferguson gave the Dutchman, who had a contract at PSV until 2007, a personal tour of the club's training ground.

But his plans were ripped to pieces by former United chief executive Peter Kenyon, now at Stamford Bridge, who is the mastermind behind Chelsea's link with PSV.

Robben, 20, met with Chelsea officials and agreed to a summer move after flying into the capital for secret talks and a medical.

Kenyon said: "This is a great signing for Chelsea. Arjen is a top quality player who will become a major asset for our club in the years ahead. For his age, he shows great maturity and mental strength to go with his natural footballing skills. It's an excellent example of how Chelsea are appealing to the new wave of European talent and our commitment to bring the best young players to Stamford Bridge - as well cultivate the best, young English talent."

Blues owner Roman Abramovich has already handed PSV £7m to sign defender Alex from Brazilian side Santos. Alex, 21, will now spend a maximum of two years in Holland - earning European citizenship before joining the Blues.

Bates quits Chelsea

Visit Chelsea mini siteWow, I return from a few days away and it is all going off at the Bridge again. Ken Bates has now resigned as Chelsea chairman.

The controversial Stamford Bridge chief has been at odds with the club's new Russian owner Roman Abramovich in recent weeks.

Bates had been unhappy since his regular column in the matchday programme was axed.

Speculation had been mounting that he could quit and he confirmed his decision when he addressed an invited audience at his Chairman's Supper Club at Chelsea Village.

Bates welcomed Abramovich with open arms when he saved the debt-ridden club with a £140million investment in the summer.

But it soon became clear he would lose much of his influence and he has found himself sidelined in recent months.

The appointment of former Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon further undermined his position.
