Chelsea Ladies win promotion to the National League

Chelsea Ladies win promotion to the National LeagueChelsea Ladies stormed into the top flight National Division for the first time on Sunday, walloping Enfield 10-0.

Formed in 1991, the first team has been in the National Southern Premier Division for six years trying to get the one promotional spot — champions! They’ve succeeded this season with three games still to play.

Coach George Michaelas said: “National football at last! Promotion to the top division where we belong. It’s been a long time coming. A name like Chelsea should be there.

George took over the first team three years ago with promotion as his target, and has had to contend with other clubs paying for professionals and large retainers. But now it’s Chelsea’s turn.

We’ve really built from the bottom,” he says. “We brought in three or four experienced girls last summer, but it’s been the team spirit which has been most important. At three o’clock this morning they were still at it singing ‘We are the champions’.

They’ve had a belief all season. Last week we had Watford away and dominated, went 1-0 up, then they scored with their first attack. They stuck to it, went 2-1 up, then Watford equalised with five minutes to go. But they still stuck at it and won 3-2. We nearly beat Everton in the FA Cup, that went to extra-time, and they went on to beat Arsenal in the semis.

Nina Downham scored a hat-trick on Sunday to take her tally for the season to 34 goals. Last season Chelsea finished fourth.

English Premier League: Chelsea 4 Crystal Palace 1

Two beauties, a gift and a scramble over the line were sufficient for Chelsea to continue a steady march to the finishing line with a fourth league win in a row.

It’s so far so good as far as working our way through the teams at the bottom goes, this defeat of Crystal Palace following on from wins over Norwich and West Brom with Southampton and 13th placed Birmingham still to come before Arsenal arrive.

Just as in the Norwich game, Chelsea had to overcome the shock of lowly opposition drawing level by the break, that after Lampard had fired his team into the lead. But just as at Carrow Road again, the scoring touch was there with Cole and Kezman again amongst the goals.

  • 1-0: But then Ferreira took the initiative, charging forward down the left and pushing forward to Cole. In a tight-spot the in-form trickster still managed to find Lampard who in contrast was in yards of space. Steadying himself and taking aim, Palace must have known what was coming but they were powerless to do anything about it. Striking his shot from 25 yards straight and true, it flew into the top right-hand corner.
  • 1-1: As the Stamford Bridge crowd, bathed in warm sun, settled back to enjoy more goals to come, Palace delivered a rude awakening with three minutes to go to the break. For Lampard it was saint turned sinner, swinging at but missing Routledge’s low-trajectory corner, Riihilahti reacting ahead of Carvalho to turn the ball in. (It was the first Premiership goal conceded at Stamford Bridge for four months).
  • 2-1: Gudjohnsen, in the centre of the park brought the ball down with a magnetic touch and left Palace captain Michael Hughes for dead. The new convert to midfield advanced another 30 yards before finding Cole whose finish was mesmeric. An angled drive from the right, Kiraly was wrong-footed and stranded as Stamford erupted in acclaim.
  • 3-1: Kezman drove in a typically optimistic shot from the left, the type that has brought him so little joy since moving to the Bridge but inexplicably, and bringing back memories of Man U’s hapless Massimo Taibi, the Palace keeper allowed the moderate effort straight through his legs.
  • 4-1: Deep into stoppage time Chelsea recorded that familiar four-goal return for the first time in the league since December. Tired legs kept out shots from Tiago and Lampard but when the ball fell to Kezman five yards out the token resistance from Palace, who had not won at the Bridge for 23 years, was over.

The championship countdown moves on to 14 more points needed with eight games to go.

FA Cup 6th Round Results

Following this weekend's FA Cup 6th round matches we check out a brief summary of all the action below: FA Cup 6th Round Draw

Bolton 0
Arsenal 1

Freddie Ljungberg scored the only goal of the game after three minutes but the visitors’ cause got considerably easier six minutes later when El-Hadji Diouf was sent off after a tussle with Jens Lehmann.

Bolton shrugged off their disadvantage and put pressure on the visitors for much of the game. Arsenal, who are starting to string clean-sheets together, were happy to soak up pressure and grab what they could on the break.

Ljungberg missed an open goal from two yards with the final kick of the game but it did not really matter.

Southampton 0
Man United 4
Manchester United put their midweek woes behind them as they defeated Southampton 4-0 in the FA Cup sixth round at St Mary’s.

Goals from Roy Keane, Cristiano Ronaldo and two from Paul Scholes saw the Reds book their place in the semi-final for the 25th time, just one behind the record held by Arsenal.

Blackburn 1
Leicester 0
Paul Dickov fired Blackburn Rovers into the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1960 at the expense of former club Leicester City.

The 33-year-old was on hand to send Rovers into the last four by driving home an 82nd-minute penalty of a dour clash at Ewood Park.

Newcastle 1
Spurs 0

Battling Newcastle United scraped into the FA Cup semi-finals with a gritty 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Patrick Kluivert’s 11th goal of the season after just five minutes claimed the win which booked the Magpies their fourth semi-final in eight years - although it took a breath-taking double save from Shay Given to deny first substitute Robbie Keane and then Jermain Defoe a 68th-minute equaliser as Spurs fought back.

Martin Jol’s side will count themselves very unfortunate not to have secured at least a replay after besieging the Newcastle goal.

UEFA Champions League: Chelsea 4 Barcelona 2 (5-4 on aggregate)

UEFA Champions League: Chelsea 4 Barcelona 2 (5-4 on aggregate)In one of the most breathtaking games of attacking football ever seen at Stamford Bridge, if not anywhere in Europe, Chelsea conquered Barcelona to go marching into the Champions League quarter-finals in style.

Barça legend Cruyff amongst others had heaped scorn on Chelsea’s style of play following the first game in Spain; they may be regretting that now! José Mourinho’s men, as if determined to shove those words back from whence they came, stood toe-to-toe with the Catalan giants and traded attacking blows all night long to enthralled watching public.

The game first swung massively in Chelsea’s favour after three goals with barely quarter-of-an-hour on the clock. But this Barcelona team is packed with goalscoring potential and they fought back to take an aggregate lead. They may have thought the job then done but that didn’t allow for the talisman that is John Terry. The Chelsea captain delivered the knockout blow with 15 minutes to go and now all of Europe know his name.

At the final whistle Mourinho raced onto the pitch to join his players in a huge huddle while heated argument broke out between those who remained on the two benches. We will be hearing a lot about this titanic contest both on and off the pitch for a long time to come yet.

Stealing is not acceptable in this community

Apologies in advance for posting bad news here as we like to keep the community as positive and buoyant as possible normally. But on this occasion it has been necessary to remind people that stealing other peoples hard work is not acceptable in this community.

People dedicate hours to developing fantastic add-ons and enhancements to your games for free. The least we can all do is honour their intellectual property rights and not steal their work.

The reason for this outburst is because we posted news on Friday of a Mid-season Rosters Update 2004/2005 by Gerard de Robles, allegedly version 3.0.

Since we have investigated further and it is actually Sweetpatch Rosters 2004/2005 Episode 4. Even the readme.txt file was almost identical! Not even an intelligent attempt to try and steal someone else's work.

I would recommend if you have downloaded this file or added it to your FIFA site then you delete it immediately in support of the campaign against stealing others work.

I would also recommend, if you have not already done so, to download the original Sweetpatch Rosters 2004/2005 Episode 4 in a show of support for the excellent Jean-Michel Peyrou.

Thanks for listening and our next news will be back to our normal level of high enthusiasm and good news.

Excellent fifaFS version 4 Released

Excellent fifaFS version 4 ReleasedOur partners at FIFASoccer.ru have released version 4 of their excellent fifaFS. It is by far the most powerful tool for installing patches and allows you to install large amounts of files into your FIFA 2005, UEFA CL 04/05 and TCM 2005.

fifaFS works with the whole FIFA file system which is located in ...\FIFA 2005\data\... directory. You don't need to bother about zdata_xx.big, zdata_xx.bh files or fifa.fat. The program updates all these files automatically. You just specify the file name which needs to be added, replaced or extracted.

Its new features include:

  • 100% EA compatible FAT rebuilding algorithm
  • File Masks ability (say "No!" to long scripts)
  • FSH Hashing - the fifaFS' brand new feature to prevent texture mess and game crashing
  • Command line support - the most useful commands: extract, import, etc (no need to write scripts for small patches)
  • New scripting facilities
    • include
    • if, goto, labels, break, trace
    • makedir, removedir commands
    • write to registry
    • predefined variables
    • saves backuping
    • UEFA CL 04/05 Support
    • TCM 2005 Support

Please note:

  • Currently, fifaFS is the only tool that regenerates FAT and works with .big files correctly.
  • It might restore your FAT if it was corrupted by other programs (like CC 2005 or FATBHBuilder).
  • Now fifaFS also takes care about FSH files. You won't have a mess with textures anymore.
  • Read documentation about FSH Hashing.
  • A lot of examples and documentation included with the program.

Download this great new version of fifaFS direct from our Download Boutique.

Carling Cup Final: Chelsea 3 Liverpool 2

Carling Cup Final: Chelsea 3 Liverpool 2I have just returned from a surprise few days away for my 40th birthday so sorry this news is a bit late but I just had to post it anyway.

The first trophy of the Mourinho and Abramovich era is on its way to the Chelsea trophy cabinet. After the worst possible start to the 2005 Carling Cup Final, hearts remained big, minds remained strong and skill remained high resulting in extra-time goals for Didier Drogba, Mateja Kezman and an initial an own-goal from Steven Gerrard. They were enough to win the day.

It needed character to triumph in Cardiff. After the set-backs against Newcastle and Barcelona during the past eight days, the last thing Chelsea needed was to go a goal down inside the first minute, but that was the big test we were presented with.

It took until 12 minutes from time to find the equaliser and then it needed the fortunate intervention of a Gerrard wayward header but as the contest went into injury-time there only looked likely to be one winner. Not even Liverpool restoring the deficit to a single goal late on could alter that fact and under a roofed Millennium Stadium, noisy celebrations could begin.

After the final whistle the Chelsea fans cruelly sang ‘One Stevie Gerrard’ as the Liverpool captain stood with his head bowed. Mourinho, now back inside the arena went across for a consoling handshake with him, and the other Liverpool players.

The Liverpool fans had by then largely left the stadium. The Chelsea fans of course remained to see John Terry lift his first silverware as Chelsea captain and the club’s first since the year 2000.
