FIFA 07 News - Features Announced

FIFA 07 - Features AnnouncedEA SPORTS are proud to announce the official features of FIFA 07, to be released in late September of 2006 (features list was allegedly leaked to LetsPlayFIFA.com).

  • Emotions of Football
The crowd in the stadium reacts to your performance. Brilliant move, nice passes, an overall ball possession and goals guarantees you an exciting crowd cheering for your team, singing, chanting, choreographing. BUT should you have trouble making the game, should you loose the control over the match, the stadium can easily calm down and the 12th player on the pitch is sent off!
  • Interactive Leagues
Take over your club and play against your rivals in the German Bundesliga, Premier League, the French or the Mexican First Division. If they play on the real pitch, it's also time for you to get on the gamepad. One match per week, like in the real world - with the original timetables from each league. If you win, your team is heading for the championship, but if you loose: It can become a shame for your club and all the fans. Weekly Podcasts with player interviews will be published on the official EA SPORTS websites and shown around the world. Become a world wide superstar of interactive football.
  • Improved Gameplay
FIFA 07 comes with a greatly improved passing system and gameplay. Players collide on the pitch while they were fighting for the ball. An all new ball physic gives you a never before seen realistic "First Touch" - but beware! The pitch is getting important: Is it raining? Is the quality of the pitch poor? All of this is influencing the ball physics in FIFA 07.
  • Strikers and Goalies
Experience the brand-new shooting technique that allows you to have even more control over your shots and their precision.
  • Improved Management Mode
Everything is real! Finances, press, fan reactions, and much more. Experience the world of a football coach. Brand-new in FIFA 07: Create your own club!
  • Gaming Community
Play with up to 8 friends in the FIFA 07 lounge for the champions title. A new handicap system can be used to ensure equality of chances.
  • Total Authenticity
FIFA 07 features 27 leagues from 20 different countries. More than 510 teams are licensed with their original kits and badges.
  • Still Unconfirmed Features
    • dynamic weather effects (i.e. sudden rain during the match)
    • Swiss and Turkish leagues included
    • PC version probably to feature NextGen graphic engine

Lots more FIFA 07 news and videos coming very soon!

From Tomorrow Win CA$H Playing Football Online

From Tomorrow Win CA$H Playing Football OnlineSorry for the lack of news this weekend but I have been locked away testing the latest version of coreFootball in preparation for its launch tomorrow. We will then be bringing you a unique opportunity to play an online football management sim and win cash at the same time.

From playing the game what I really like is the ability to challenge any manager to a match, set the credit amount for what you want to compete for (you can purchase credits to use to challenge your opponents to matches or enter leagues and tournaments). When the manager then accepts the challenge the game then takes place live and you can switch your tactics, substitutions, etc... during the game and watch it influence the outcome of the match. There is definitely a warm feeling when you win a match and watch your credits increase in your account.

Membership of coreFootball is free to all and managers have the option to wager anything up to £10,000 on winning each match that they play, including instant challenge matches. Quarterly seasonal tournaments carry a minimum prize of £10,000, with ‘High Roller’ accumulator tournaments pushing the prize value up to a staggering £100,000 for the winner.

Sign up today for free to benefit from our FREE £5 voucher for you.

Please note: When you sign up at coreFootball please ensure you enter the promo code SP-CASH as this will ensure you benefit from our FREE £5 voucher that has been made available especially for you, the Sweetpatch visitors.

FIFA 07 News - Lots of new information

FIFA 07 - Lots of new informationOur partners over at GFO 2006 have recently released a lot of information about FIFA 07.

At the recent IDEF (Interactive Digital Entertainment Festival) in Cannes they profited from the presence of Electronic Arts, who provided further information on it's new game FIFA 07, including:

  • The dynamic weather (being able to change in the course of match) will force the player to change tactic in full or in part;
  • The grass will be finally worthy of its name, the developers hope that you will be able to make a distinction between the grasses of the rich and poor clubs;
  • The play will profit from a greater number of technical moves and goal celebrations;
  • The master keys will be more realistic, the developers promise 8 kinds of different shooting!
  • The versions next-gen will profit from a system of improved body movement, allowing faster movements;
  • The Swiss and Turkish championships will be part of the game; and
  • Interactive League is a new fashion of play on line making it possible to take part in the national championship of three countries (France, Germany and England), the whole being played on the official dates of the calendar. The next versions could integrate other championships into this mode.

It is also very interesting that they are talking about 'next-gen versions' (written in the plural) - perhaps a sign that the next-gen-graphics will appear on the PC plus the Xbox 360? Let's all hope for that!

Lots more FIFA 07 news and videos coming very soon!

Chill Out this Summer with some more Sweetpatch Suggested Songs

Following the success of last weeks musical suggestion for the summer, this week we follow it up with another classic recent release.

Black Holes and Revelations - Muse
Delivers a stylistic overhaul from Devon's premiere epic space rock outfit Muse. The follow up 2003's smash 'Absolution' looks to merge Matt Bellamy's trademark powerful riffs with dance beats to produce an upbeat album with influences moving towards Prince and Franz Ferdinand. Co-produced by Rich Costey (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) and including the single 'Supermassive BlackHole'.

Fan feedback:
"what's there left to say? ...I don't know how's that possible, but they just keep getting better and better... those guys really amaze me, Matthew Bellamy is god. I'm looking forward to their next work already *drools profusely* BUY THIS ALBUM RIGHT NOW, you won't be disappointed!"

Have a crack at a brand new footy game...

Have a crack at a brand new footy game... The people who brought you Stick Cricket have done it again. This time they have developed a Stick Soccer game.

It's currently at the beta stage and there’s a load of stuff to be added over the next few weeks, but they’d like to get a bit of feedback on the overall feel of the game, and to see if there are any major bugs.

So if you have a go, tell them what you think. Is the game play too slow/fast, does the ball disappear just as you’re about to score or whatever.

Play Stick Soccer now by clicking here and help them develop the perfect game by feeding back to them.

NK FOOTBALL © : V9 – Select your playing level!

NK FOOTBALL © V9

NK FOOTBALL © V9 will be out next Friday, but what else does NK FOOTBALL © have planned? The latest news is that the update will offer 3 different ‘levels’ of installation for V9. What does this mean? Well, in V8 you install either a Standard or CEP Compatible version of the update. But in V9, you install either level 1, level 2 or level 3 and then have the choice to have these levels CEP compatible. Level 1 is the recommended installation for casual gamers; level 2 is slightly more challenging for the more advanced gamer and level 3 is for you arrogant gamers out there who think they’re too big for their boots! Gamers who’ll be playing on Level 3 Legendary difficulty will be of a ‘god-like’ ability to play and beat FIFA ™ 06 using V9. I would think only a select few!

V9 is out on the 4th August, be sure to check back soon for more information!

Skill, Knowledge and Effort is Rewarded with CA$H

Skill, Knowledge and Effort is Rewarded with CA$HAs I am sure you all know by now, here at Sweetpatch we are delighted to have partnered with coreFootball to bring you this unique opportunity to play an online football management sim and win cash at the same time.

By recreating the ebb, flow and excitement of a real football match and giving players the opportunity to make changes during live games, the relative skill, knowledge and effort of managers determines how much cash can be won playing coreFootball.

The key to the coreFootball sim accuracy is the alignment of the relative level of managerial, player, opponent and unpredictable influences on the outcome of a live match with that observed in the real football world. The outcome of a coreFootball match truly is a function of real managerial “skill” rather than a combination of “effort” and “learned nuance”.

Those keen to get involved in the next generation of online football management should visit our brand new coreFootball Zone to learn all about the game and sign up today to benefit from our FREE £5 voucher for you.

Please note: When you sign up at coreFootball please ensure you enter the promo code SP-CASH as this will ensure you benefit from our FREE £5 voucher that has been made available especially for Sweetpatch visitors.

Chill Out this Summer with some Sweetpatch Suggested Songs

Lots of you have emailed us saying you would like us to provide you with suggestions for great music to listen to this summer. Ok, so you've got it and here is our first suggestion for the summer.

Liberation Transmission - Lostprophets
This is the 3rd album from Welsh nu-metal survivors. Their sophomore release, 2004's 'Start Something', saw them signed to Columbia in the USA and they became one of the few British bands to "break" America in recent times.

On this album they seek to consolidate their position, working with super-producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue) and leaning even more heavily on their 80s pop influences, creating a streamlined sound simultaneously heavier and more melodic than ever. Includes the hit single 'Rooftops'.

Fan feedback:
"This is one brill album well done Lostprophets. Just bought this album after seeing them live at Carlisle, one hell of a concert and one hell of a album there isn't one track i dislike. If you are not a lostprophet fan you certainly will be after listening to this album."

Treat yourself to this album today by clicking on the image on the right.

Winning coreFootball matches is down to skill and winning = CA$H

Winning coreFootball matches is down to skill and winning = CA$HWinning coreFootball matches is down to skill rather than chance, thanks to the advanced simulation coreFootball software.

Each match outcome is down to the manager’s choices - both pre-match and during play, which are then combined with the simulated players’ in-game decisions to decide what happens during the match. coreFootball, more than any other sim, reflects a Managers genuine ability to manage a team of artificially intelligent players.

If winning is down to skill then this must mean that skill = winning = more cash for you! That can't be bad for getting skilled at a game.

As announced yesterday, here at Sweetpatch we are delighted to have partnered with coreFootball to bring you this unique opportunity to play an online football management sim and win cash at the same time. When you sign up at coreFootball please ensure you enter the promo code SP-CASH as this will ensure you benefit from our FREE £5 voucher that has been made available especially for our Sweetpatch visitors.

CEP 2.0 development

CEP Career Expansion PatchYo everyone. Time has passed since the last CEP related post here on Sweetpatch: as I anticipated I took my time of vacation to enjoy the World Cup happening (and the fact that Italy won again the golden cup after 24 years contributed to the intensity of this vacation), anyway as many of you have noticed the work on CEP 2.0 has not been interrupted and almost the totality of the material that I want to include in next version is ready to be elaborated. I'll try to explain you what still remains to do to release the CEP:

1) I've already packed and divided the material received, I selected the quantity of material that we will be able to include in the CEP (the rest of the material is precious anyway, as you can read later) and you can keep record of this work of organization in the Status section of the site.

2) I have to transform the excel received in db datas, the bmps receive in fsh, put everything in their proper place: the fifa.db, the .big files, and then test league by league checking if they work and discovering the limit that we can reach until Fifa will not suppor more our material.

3) After all the leagues, new cups etc. have been created with their teams, kits etc. I will have to start updating the rosters and the leagues teams for the 2006/07: I think every Chelsea fan wants to play with their Shevchenko, every Reading fan wanna plays in Premiership and so on. This will take a large amount of time, indeed, but with the help of specialistic websites this can accomplished (if you want suggest good transfer market website of your favourite league please drop a post on CEP forums or contact me by mail).

4) Then I want to restyle a bit the interface for the CEP 2.0 release, that has to be the final one for the Fifa 2006 engine and for this, of course, we will have to perform a lot of summer betatesting.

So you want a release date? I don't have it, because I don't know how many problems I can encounter during the test period, because I want to give a patch containing almost all the changements of the 2006/07 season (just consider the mess with the Italian league after fixing matches scandal..). This means that most probably you will have the final CEP 2.0 only for the second half of August/beginning of September. So you can ask me if this has sense considering that Fifa 2007 will be probably released one month after the CEP 2.0: well, yes, this has sense: for first I want to give to the Fifa 2006 users a final product to enjoy fully their game even if they dont want to purchase Fifa 2007 and, most of all, because all the material I am elaborating will be converted and adapted to Fifa 2007 graphic and data standards. So we have two news: we will have the final fifa 2006 CEP version at the end of the summer and we will have a CEP for Fifa 2007 immediately after the release of the game.

Last but not least: if you want to quicken the time of the release of CEP you can help me with all the standard procedures I have to perform in the creation of the leagues: mainly packing the bmps inside fsh files and inside big files. This is an extremely easy task to perform, but it takes a bit of time: multiply this time for all the teams that I have to create and you can imagine the time I need to do this. So if you wanna help me and quicken the CEP release please contact me on CEP forums or send me a mail at fifaock @ yahoo.it and I will send you the tutorials and the material to pack. In the meanwhile I have to notice how good is the graphical engine of WC06: let's hope EA will use it for the Fifa 2007 and will help the community resolving the problem of the field size. See ya and Forza Materazzi!

Columbus turned things around in the second period and were rewarded with a penalty kick in the 66th minute. Eddie Gaven drove a low shot into the net to tie the match.
Colorado Rapids 3
NE Revolution 2
Colorado came out on top in a match that was suspended for 50 minutes due to lightning strikes in the area. The first half saw Nicolas Hernandez and Kyle Beckerman score for Colorado. Taylor Twellman scored a late consolation for New England.

Columbus Crew 0
DC United 1
DC United won for the fifth time in a row, and has not lost in 12 matches. Elecko Eskandarian scored the only goal with a well placed free kick in the 42nd minute. Eskandarian was then sent off in the 65th minute but United held on.
Chicago Fire 1
NE Revolution 2
Steve Ralston and Andy Dorman gave New England a two goal lead going into halftime. The Revolution then survived a second 45 minutes that saw them on the back foot the entire time. Nate Jaqua made the score 2-1 with his 51st minute goal, but that was as close as Chicago would get.
FC Dallas 2
Red Bull New York 1
Dominic Oduro and David Wagenfuhr scored first half goals for Dallas, who stopped a three game losing streak. Mike Magee scored a late goal for New York to make the score respectable. FC Dallas remains in first place in the Western Conference.
Colorado Rapids 1

A Clint Mathis goal in second half stoppage time was enough to give Colorado the win at home.
LA Galaxy 2
Real Salt Lake 0
Herculez Gomez and Josh Gardner scored three minutes apart in the second half to give Los Angeles the victory.

Italian trio relegated to Serie B

Italian trio relegated to Serie B Serie A sides Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have been demoted to the second division for their involvement in Italy's match-fixing scandal.

Juventus were also stripped of their last two Serie A titles and had 30 points deducted, meaning they are likely to stay down for two seasons. AC Milan will stay in Serie A but will start the season docked 15 points. Lazio were penalised seven league points while Fiorentina suffered a 12-point penalty.

All are barred from playing in Europe - Juventus, Milan and Fiorentina in the Champions League; Lazio the Uefa Cup.

Inter, Roma, Chievo and Palermo, who finished third, fifth, seventh and eighth, are in line to take the places of the penalised clubs in next season's Champions League.

Lecce, Messina, and Treviso will avoid relegation to Serie B and keep their places in the top flight as a result of the verdict.

Thirteen of Italy's World Cup-winning squad play for the clubs involved, with five at Juventus, who also have Patrick Vieira, Lilian Thuram, David Trezeguet, Pavel Nedved and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in their ranks.

Many of them are expected to seek transfers to other leading clubs in Italy or Europe to limit the damage to their careers.

All four clubs implicated denied the accusations and it is expected they will appeal.

The final punishments for the clubs were as follows:

Juventus:

  • Relegated to Serie B
  • 30-point deduction for next season
  • Stripped of 2005 and 2006 titles
  • Out of 2006-07 Champions League
  • Five-year ban for ex-general manager Luciano Moggi
  • Five-year ban for ex-chief executive Antonio Giraudo

AC Milan:

  • Deducted 15 points next season
  • Out of 2006-07 Champions League
  • One-year ban for vice-president Adriano Galliani
  • Club official Leonardo Meani banned for three years and six months

Fiorentina:

  • Relegated to Serie B
  • 12-point deduction next season
  • Out of 2006-07 Champions League
  • President Andrea Della Valle banned for three years and six months
  • Four-year ban for honorary president Diego Della Valle

Lazio:

  • Relegated to Serie B
  • Out of 2006-07 Uefa Cup
  • 7-point deduction next season
  • Three-year ban for president Claudio Lotito

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Zidane headbutt outrage: new video evidence

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Zidane headbutt outrage: new video evidencePity if you will poor old Zinedine Zidane: sent off during the World Cup final for a serious infraction of FIFA's "no headbutting Italians" rule and now reduced to the status of French national hero with enough cash in the bank to enjoy a lifetime of truffles, stuffed songbirds and fine vintage champagne.

Indeed, while the rest of the world was struggling to contain its outrage at Zidane's unsportsmanlike use of the Glasgow handshake, Jacques Chirac counterattacked with: "I would like to express all the respect that I have for a man who represents at the same time all the most beautiful values of sport, the greatest human qualities one can imagine, and who has honoured French sport and, simply, France."

Well, therein lies the rub, mon ami. How you view the whole thing depends largely on your national perspective.

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Italy 1 France 1 (5-3 on pens)

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Italy 1 France 1 (5-3 on pens)Italy beat France 5-3 in a penalty shoot-out to win the World Cup after an absorbing 1-1 draw in Berlin. Fabio Grosso scored the winning goal after France's David Trezeguet missed.

Playing his last game before retiring, Zinedine Zidane's career ended in disgrace after he was sent off for crazily headbutting Marco Materazzi.

Zidane had put France ahead early on with a coolly-taken chipped penalty, before Materazzi levelled with a header from an Andrea Pirlo corner.

The result caps an incredible period for Italian football, with the domestic game embroiled in a corruption scandal similar to 1982 when they last won the World Cup. They have now won the competition four times, one fewer than Brazil, and it was the first time they managed to win a World Cup match on penalties after three failed attempts.

But France legend Zidane may forever be haunted by the moment of madness which cost him a second World Cup title.

Check out the full match report, photo gallery and virtual replay by clicking here.

So that's it for another 4 years and we really hope you have enjoyed our extensive coverage of the tournament.

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Portugal 0 France 1

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Portugal 0 France 1France booked a World Cup final spot against Italy after Zinedine Zidane's first-half penalty earned victory over a disappointing Portugal in Munich.

Zidane struck coolly past Ricardo on 33 minutes after Thierry Henry was tripped inside the box by Ricardo Carvalho. Henry saw another shot trickle wide and Franck Ribery forced Ricardo to save. Luis Figo and Deco saw shots saved by Fabien Barthez and Figo nodded over late on, but France stayed in control and thoroughly deserved their win.

Raymond Domenech's side will now play Italy in the final in Berlin on Sunday at 1900 BST.

The final will be Zidane's last game before he retires from professional football and is a chance to win his second World Cup after the 1998 triumph on home soil.

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Saint-Zidane

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Saint-ZidaneOur World Cup correspondent Artus brings us his latest great story out of the tournament.

After a very impressive France took advantage of a still surprisingly weak Brazil, everybody is now praising the indisputable talent of the Great Zinedine.

And when I say everybody, even the majority of French people were already in disbelief and even shouting their “god” from 98. Even the Spanish newspapers headlining last week: “We’re sending Zidane to retirement”, are now praying that he will continue to play for Real!

Anyway, here’s the story and it’s about that famous door that Zidane kicked in Leipzig. “Zinedine Zidane nor any French man has kicked the door from the cloakroom in Leipzig”, are the words from the French delegation reported by the Committee of the Organisation of the World Cup.

The committee also announced they will hire a private-eye to find out who’s responsible for the damage.

As you could read in a recent article, it was believed that Zidane smashed the door out of frustration after the game against South Korea.

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Germany 0 Italy 2 (aet)

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Germany 0 Italy 2 (aet)Stunning late extra-time strikes from Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Del Piero took Italy into the World Cup final at Germany's expense with a 2-0 win.

An absorbing semi-final seemed set for penalties until Grosso curled man of the match Andrea Pirlo's pass past Jens Lehmann with just one minute left. Del Piero then finished an Italy break with a delicate chip into the corner.

Germany's Lukas Podolski earlier sent a header wide and saw a shot saved, but the hosts' Cup dreams were shattered.

There were, unsurprisingly, tears among German players and fans after the extraordinary end to an enthralling encounter - in which Italy also hit the woodwork twice in extra-time.

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Semi Final Preview - Germany v Italy

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Semi Final Preview - Germany v ItalyToday sees the 1st match in the Semi Finals with the hosts Germany taking on Italy.

Germany midfielder Torsten Frings will miss the match after being banned by Fifa. Frings was found guilty of throwing a punch at Argentina's Julio Cruz during the ugly fracas that followed Friday's quarter-final in Berlin. However, captain Michael Ballack and top scorer Miroslav Klose will be fit after shrugging off minor injuries.

Italy's Alessandro Nesta, who has missed the last two games with a groin injury, looks certain to miss out. Marco Materazzi is available again after a ban, but Mauro Camoranesi is struggling with a right knee injury.

Luca Toni's brace against Ukraine may have earned him a stay of execution after a below-par tournament before the quarters, but Alberto Gilardino looks set return in place of the injured Camoranesi in a 4-3-1-2 formation. That would free Francesco Totti to roam behind the front two with coach Lippi hoping to expose Germany's defensive flaws in Dortmund.

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Where was Diego Waldo Maradona?

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Where was Diego Waldo Maradona? Our World Cup correspondent Artus brings us his latest great story out of the tournament.

While watching Germany v Argentina, somebody asked suddenly if they had already shown Diego Maradona in the crowd. During the game it was like looking for Waldo!

You remember that little game where you had to find that guy in the picture wearing a red & white pullover… So after looking out to see a Diego in a white & blue shirt we admitted that they curiously didn’t show him!

Somebody even came up with the idea that the German cameraman didn’t want to show him in order to prevent him from firing up the Argentinian crowd.

So where was “La Mano Di Dio” (The hand of God) while Argentina was getting knocked out in the penalty shootout?

Well, he was simply not there as he had received 4 VIP tickets for the game but came with a 5th person. And the person was of course not let in by the organisation.

All out, all home” thought Maradona and so they went back to his hotel to watch the game in his hotel room.

We are always saving tickets in case that Maradona wants to go to a game. Even, if he decides to show up at the last second. But Friday, he was with someone who we couldn’t let go inside”, said the organisation.

Wonder who that 5th person was...

NK FOOTBALL © : V8 News

NK FOOTBALL © V8

NK FOOTBALL © V8 is to be released soon. The update was held back into development because the game became too easy to predict. The CPU was strong in areas, but user had an easy kick of the ball when it came down to winning matches on World Class. The most highly skilled of FIFA ™ 06 gamers would not have enjoyed the challenge.

V8 is now better and stronger! Ball physics are much more realistic, and the pace of the game is much slower and flows much more realistically. The most realistic ball physics in any gameplay update before. The tactical side to football will really stand out now as CPU pressure is greater and goalkeepers are not solid on your side! They can be beaten by CPU players' much easier, meaning your defence really has to protect your goalkeeper like never before and you will appreciate every shot he keeps out.

There is no release date as of yet for V8, but the changes to CPU are also evident in the update for 2006 FIFA World Cup ™

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Goleo bad luck charm

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Goleo bad luck charmOur World Cup correspondent Artus brings us his latest great story out of the tournament.

Goleo, the well-known mascot of this World Cup in Germany has brought a lot of positive waves to the German squad. But some other Germans won’t keep a good souvenir of that stuffed lion-look-alike toy with his talking ball.

Nici, the firm that created Goleo is planning to get rid of 123 of their employees. 24 of these had a temporary contract with the company.

The surprisingly disappointing sales of the mascot hasn’t had much to do with it. The company went bankrupt last month and the ex-director admitted afterwards that he laundered 40.5 millions Euros!

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - Oleg Blochin didn’t see any of the penaltiesOur World Cup correspondent Artus brings us his latest great story out of the tournament.

On Monday 26th, Ukraine needed the penalty shootout to defeat Switzerland. Weirdly enough, the Ukrainian coach didn’t watch it.

What? Who missed? Shevchenko?”, Blochin looked amazed during the press conference when the journalists asked him to comment on the failure of The Star. “How come? He is our indisputable penalty kicker and he missed on such a moment!

The thing was, that Blochin rushed inside the changing-room and came back only when it was over… and that he learned that his team had won of course!

Penalties are great for the audience but too much of a stress for the trainer.”, Said Blochin.

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - The Dark Blue Side of Zinedine "Zizou" Zidane

2006 FIFA World Cup Random News - The Dark Blue Side of Zinedine Our World Cup correspondent Artus brings us his latest great story out of the tournament.

As France qualified for the semis by beating favourites Brazil, here is a story that takes us back a few days in time.

On Sunday June 18th, France played a frustrated game against South-Korea. Remember, in that game Zidane received his second card of the tournament preventing him to play the third group game against Togo. France won that third game 2-0 giving them a place in the next round where they met Spain, etc...

Anyway, that Sunday Zidane was so angry that he showed a part of his dark blue side by kicking hard several times at a door somewhere in the Stadium of Leipzig. The boss of the club didn’t find that funny in the first place but after thinking twice he finally had a laugh about it.

I wanted to ask FIFA to repay the damage, but after all who’s got such a door in his house? I’m going to keep it!”, said the man. "This will be a marvellous souvenir of the Zidane the Magnificent!"

France are playing next on Wednesday against Portugal for a place in the Final.

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Brazil 0 France 1

2006 FIFA World Cup News - Brazil 0 France 1Thierry Henry's superb volley sent holders Brazil out of the World Cup as France moved into the semi-finals.

Inspired by man-of-the-match Zinedine Zidane, France were the better side in the first half, but failed to create clear chances to trouble Dida. That changed just before the hour when Zidane swept a free-kick to the far post where it was sumptuously volleyed past the Brazilian goalkeeper by Henry. Fabien Barthez denied Ronaldo late on to set up a semi-final with Portugal.

Brazil had strolled their way to the quarter-finals, but Carlos Alberto Parriera's side had no answer to a France team that combined defensive discipline with some wonderful attacking play.

France's route to the last eight has involved plenty of huffing and puffing, but the knockout stages have brought out the best in Raymond Domenech's side.

Zidane was magnificent throughout, while after the interval the speed of Henry and Franck Ribery unsettled the Brazilian defence.
