Huckerby for England!?!
"If Darren Huckerby can play like that every week at this level, home and away, he cannot fail but to knock on the door for an England place," says Keegan. But, as we all know, he rarely performs like he did versus Newcastle every half a dozen games.

All the wrong moves
Richard Wright is doubtful for the game against Birmingham with an injury he picked up at Sunderland. Steve Simonsen is the likely stand-in and it begs the question, what if Simonsen plays a blinder?

Watford want more from Webber
Hornets boss Ray Lewington wants to extend Man. Utd forward Danny Webber's loan period at Watford. "If you put a year's loan on him it would put everyone else off and I'm hoping to do that," said Lewington.

Alexander the First?
Neil Alexander has been called into the Scotland squad for the Euro 2004 qualifier with the Faroe Islands. Berti Vogts gave Alexander the nod after Tottenham goalkeeper Neil Sullivan broke his finger in training.

Truth is stranger than fiction
Colombian striker Faustino Asprilla will be introduced to the Darlington crowd before the Quakers' clash with Carlisle at Feethams tonight. The club are still confident that he will get a work permit...

and Litmanen goes to...

Turkish giants, Galatasaray, have been given permission by Liverpool to discuss terms with Jari Litmanen.

Litmanen to Galatasaray

The Finland intrenational emptied his locker at Anfield on Monday, according to reports.

Just last week, he was reported to be unhappy with his life at the Merseyside club although he later claimed to have been misquoted by the press.

It was reported that Litmanen was "miserable" at Anfield, having started the season on the bench.

Litmanen has explained the incident: "I gave an interview with a Dutch magazine about a month ago but that interview and the one that was in the papers this week bear no similarity at all," said Litmanen.

"This has caused problems for the club, the manager and me. People will get the wrong idea of me and my purpose."

Liverpool is filled with strikers, such as star Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and new star El Hadji Diouf all seemingly ahead of Litmanen in the Liverpool line-up order and Milan Baros plus the reserve star Neil Mellor also coming through, Litmanen may know his time is up.

Litmanen is contracted to the club until next summer, although having joined Liverpool on a free transfer, he may be allowed to leave without a fee being paid.

Tore Story
Rangers manager Alex McLeish has said the sale of striker Tore Andre Flo to Sunderland remains a possibility. Sunderland manager Peter Reid is keen to bring in a big-name striker as soon as possible, having been turned down by Leeds' Robbie Keane.

Kolinko 'sets record straight'
Palace keeper Alex Kolinko has offered his version of that altercation with Trevor Francis. "I was not laughing in the dug-out, the manager punched me on the nose. I have not been given an explanation why he did it. My nose is very sore and bruised."

Another one bites the dust
Matthew Piper is also set to leave Leicester. The attacking midfielder was at the St Mary's Stadium today hoping to complete a move to Southampton.

Through the keyhole
Wrexham captain Brian Carey is to undergo keyhole surgery after sustaining a knee injury last weekend. The 34-year-old defender was substituted after 70 minutes of Saturday's season-opener against Scunthorpe.

All the right moves
Hull City supporters sigh with relief as Jan Molby has added a right back and additional striker to his squad at the eleventh hour. Simon Johnson, an England Youth international, has joined from Leeds on an initial months loan.

Ljunberg comeback date

Arsenal's Freddie Ljungberg has set a comeback date for next month. The Sweden midfielder has been sidelined since the World Cup finals by a hip injury and has undergone surgery.

Comeback Date

It was expected to keep him out of action until well into the new season, but Ljungberg has given the Gunners a boost with the news that he expects to return in September.

Freddie said: "I'm aiming for that. But at the same time I've had an operation so I can't be too devastated if the specialist tells me I can't start rotating the hip. I'm hopeful but I'll have to wait and see. The hip is getting better."

"Of course, when you have an operation it goes slowly but the doctors are happy with my progress. I'm seeing a specialist on August 22 and I'm working on building up all the muscles around the hip."

Arsenal are already in a problems, as Robert Pires is out until the end of September at the earliest and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is not expected back before Christmas.

Ronaldo wants out

Ronaldo made a big step in the way for a sensational move to Real Madrid by telling Inter he wants to leave the club.

Ronaldo getting close to Madrid

The Brazilian World Cup winner has been linked with the European champions after his agent, Alexandre Martins, insisted his days at the San Siro were numbered. Ronaldo has now confirmed that he wants out of Inter Milan, which will spark a 60million raid from Real Madrid, who said they would only make an approach if the player wanted to leave.

"I arrived (to Milano) and I directly went to speak to Inter. I confirmed my point of view which is the same as the one that my agent Alexandre Martins explained to president Moratti three months ago."

"I am sad for the fans' reaction even though I understand their disappointment, but I prefer to live this situation than publicly tell the reasons that caused me to think about leaving Inter.", Ronaldo said.

He also spoke about the speculations he leaves Inter for the money, after he took a pay-cut, to help inter's money problems: "People who know me, know that money is not important to me. I will respect my contract, like I have always done, but I hope in the next few days that the situation will be solved positively for both me and Inter."

The question is, if Ronaldo will move to Madrid, along side with Zidane, Raul, Roberto Carlos and Figo, with how many balls they will need to play?

Who will go for Gomes?
There is, perhaps, no player who has been linked with more Premiership clubs this summer than Nuno Gomes. Now his agent says: "Nuno has received important offers from English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian clubs."

Robert's back in trouble
Bobby Robson is concerned about the fitness of Laurent Robert. He fears the player could be suffering from the recurrence of a old back injury. Craig Bellamy and Andy O'Brien are also on the casualty list.

Dark side of the Mooney
Tommy Mooney has hinted that he won't put on with being on the bench at Birmingham. He told Icons.com that 'competition is fierce' and Steve Bruce will have his work cut out keeping all the strikers happy.

No way for Andrei
How's about this for an enduring image. Andrei Kanchelskis was turned down by Gillingham when he approached the club to train with them. Apparently, he is training alone in East Grinstead!?!

All go at Tranmere
First they sack the manager, Dave Watson, then the chief executive stands down and the club is put up for sale. Ray Mathias has taken over from Watson on a stand-in basis but has put himself forward for the job on a permanent basis.

Leaburn the key for Torquay?
Torquay United have taken striker Carl Leaburn on trial. The 33-year-old has previously had spells with Charlton, Wimbledon, QPR and Northampton.

Today's Soccer Snippets

Cheyrou Kops the plaudits
Liverpool lost 1-0 to Lazio but may have uncovered a new midfield star in French MOTM, Bruno Cheyrou. Further good cheer came with the news that Steven Gerrard will be fit for the Community Shield after a scan on a thigh injury.

No go for Yobo?
Everton’s biggest summer signing, Joseph Yobo, may have a hairline fracture. What was originally thought to have been only a “whack” picked up against Queens Park is now believed to be something more serious.

He’s not the Messiah; he’s a very naughty boy
Terry Venables has defended Alan Smith after another ill-disciplined performance in a Leeds shirt. According to Venables, Smith “cares . . .he is Leeds through and through.” Smith was booed off the pitch during a friendly in Bangkok.

Highfield Road Retirement Home
Sky Blues boss, Gary McAllister, has invited veteran defender, Steve Walsh, for a trial. McAllister has opted for the 37-year-old former Leicester stalwart after several shaky defensive displays pre-season.

Telling it like it is
Despite his initial reluctance it seems striker Colin Larkin will join Mansfield from Wolves. Larkin wanted to fight for his place at Molineux until David Jones politely informed him that his chances of selection were “slim”.

Cherries bomb
The Cherries stumble from one problem to another. The club has announced the resignation of Tony Swaisland as Chairman. He will be replaced by Peter Phillips, who will multi-task by also taking on the role of managing director.
