FIFA Community Questions Answered

FIFA Football 2004EA UK have more answers from EA Canada for you this week. All of the questions were taken from the community forums and included:

  • How were the stadiums picked by the development team?
  • Will it be possible to play stadiums made in TCM 2004 in FIFA 2004?
  • In 2003 it often took too long to get a shot off since the animation system waits for one animation to complete before starting another. Will the new organic animation system fix this and other control responsiveness issues?
  • Which team chants are to be included this year?
  • What will the graphical differences be between platforms?
  • Will you be able to change the weather in a Season or Friendly? And if, for example, you play in snow will the ball travel like it would in snow?
  • Will there be a rise in price for players who do an excellent job in league matches?
  • Will there be a GameCube to Game Boy Advance connection feature?
  • Has the internet play system been improved over last year? In particular, has anything been done about the problem of quitters?

Check out the answers to all of these questions by clicking here. If you've got any more question you'd like answered, why not chip in on the FIFA UK community forums.

FIFA 2004 Japanese version

FIFA Football 2004As most of you have heard by now, Japan is getting it’s own version of FIFA this year. The Japanese games market is a notoriously hard one for Western games to succeed in, but this year EA decided to give it a shot. They've hired a team of Japanese developers to make a different version of FIFA 2004. This version of the game will not be drastically better than the regular FIFA 2004 or anything of the sort; it will simply be tuned for the rather unique Japanese market. It will be a Japanese game made by Japanese developers for Japanese gamers.

Check out all the differences in this version of FIFA 2004 which include:

  • a different looking front-end design
  • the camera angles might be slightly changed
  • the Career mode

For the full facts on the Japanese version of FIFA 2004 visit EA's UK site by clicking here.

Man U and Adu possibly in talks

Sweetpatch's Soccer SnippetsFreddy Adu, the 14-year-old American football phenomenon, is rumoured to be in talks with Manchester United, according to newspaper reports.

Currently, Adu is playing with the USA in the Under-17 World Cup in Finland, where, most recently, he made his presence felt by scoring a hat trick against South Korea in a 6-1 victory for the USA.

As Adu continues to get the attention of football teams overseas, recruiting him will be no easy task. Securing a player like Adu for the future is important for competitive teams seeking new and young talent, but the risk of serious injury and the guarantee of consistent performance can be neither confirmed nor denied.

Should Adu sign a contract with United, he will be restricted to the youth team for the next three years, since under premiership rules players must be at least 17 to play on the professional squad. Worries are that with the youth squad, he will not develop to his full potential playing with people who have yet to reach the peak of their talent.

Born in Ghana, Adu moved to the United States with his family, where his athletic ability with respect to his age was quick to make headlines. However, in an interesting twist, his age is only an estimate, and has left many people skeptical that he is truly that young.

Despite the rumours and doubts, some, like Nike, have already shown faith in Adu by offering him a $1 million contract. Others, however, have yet to be convinced.

Hasselbaink wins it for Chelsea

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink hit an 88th-minute winner as big-spending Chelsea opened their season with a 2-1 win at Liverpool.

The Reds looked to have snatched a point when Michael Owen converted a twice-taken penalty 11 minutes from time to cancel out Juan Sebastian Veron's first-half opener.

However, Roman Abramovich watched on in delight as substitute Hasselbaink fired an angled right-footed drive past Jerzy Dudek from 12 yards to stun Anfield.

After Harry Kewell came close with a cross-shot, Chelsea broke the deadlock with their first real attack when Veron took advantage of a slip by Sami Hyypia to sweep home Jesper Gronkjaer's cut-back from 10 yards.

After Frank Lampard and Eidur Gudjohnsen fluffed golden chances to extend the Blues' lead, Liverpool were handed a lifeline when Wayne Bridge clumsily fouled El Hadji Diouf and the hosts were awarded a penalty.

Owen rolled his effort hopelessly wide, but to Chelsea's fury a linesman's flag indicated Carlo Cudicini had moved off his line, and Owen blasted the retaken spot-kick into the roof of the net, before Hasselbaink had the last laugh in the dying seconds.

To celebrate this excellent away victory, you can BUY your Chelsea Away Shirt 2003/2004 by clicking here.

EA answer your FIFA 2004 questions

Matt Bilbey is Product Manager for FIFA 2004 at EA Canada. If anyone`s the right person to get FIFA 2004 answers from, it`s him. So that`s exactly what EA UK have done.

Screenshots Click for larger image Click for larger image

They took a bunch of your questions from the FIFA 2004 community forums and sat down with Matt to get them answered.

Questions included:

  • Will the CPU make transfers outside of your team and offer you transfers?
  • Will PC online play require broadband? Or will it be fine on a modem?
  • Will everything that`s included in the PC version be in the PS2 version?
  • I heard 2004 will feature a stadium editor, is there any truth in this?
  • Will there be a properly functioning in-game big screen, possibly displaying other match results as they happen?
  • How have replays and camera angles been improved? Is the free cam back in particular?
  • Will FIFA 2004 be released a global release date or just for Europe?

You can find all the answers to these and more questions by clicking here.

One point that I feel is key to what hopefully will be the success of FIFA 2004 is that, in Matt's words: "The new team AI plus the organic animation system means play is far more realistic and unpredictable. The ball also has its own physics therefore ball motion is more realistic too."

Romanian international Mutu heads for Chelsea

English big-spenders Chelsea confirmed they had agreed a fee with Parma for Romanian striker Adrian Mutu.

In a statement, London club Chelsea also said: "Discussions will now take place between Chelsea and the player over the proposed transfer."

According to press reports in Italy, Chelsea were set to pay Parma 22.5 million euros (15.8 million pounds) for Mutu. That would take English Premiership outfit Chelsea's spending under new owner Roman Abramovich over the 75 million pounds mark since the Russian businessman bought the Stamford Bridge club on July 1.

Under Abramovich, Chelsea have already signed new players such as Juan Sebastian Veron, Joe Cole, Wayne Bridge, Damien Duff, Geremi and Glen Johnson.

Mutu, 24, scored 17 goals for Parma in Italy's Seria A last season as well as four in the UEFA Cup. But he was left out of Parma's trip to England this weekend where they are taking part in a pre-season tournament, sparking speculation over his future.
