CEP 2.0 Preview 2 - The GUI

CEP Career Expansion PatchOur serie of previews about CEP 2.0 continues with a focus on the graphical interface improvements that you will find in the last version for Fifa 2006 of our project: in the meanwhile the work on the 2.0 is coming to its final stages, with the huge work of update on rosters being realized in these days: you can find details on which leagues has been updated with extreme detail in the Status section of the CEP website. The work program is to complete first the update of the rosters for all the main leagues of the game (especially the ones originally included in Fifa, because the CEP custom leagues are almost updated to this season), then to finish packing last leagues missing (I hope to finish: Bulgary, J-League, Switzerland 2nd, Hungary 2nd) and graphical addons to the GUI (adboards, flags, logos). As I want to release the CEP for the mid of September I don't think we will have a real betatesting session and most probably we'll have to release an only-database update for October, just before Fifa 2007 release. As I already mentioned we'll do our best to convert as soon as possible (considering the study of the Fifa 2007 format: we hope to have some informations soon) the CEP to the 2007 engine. Let's discover, in the meanwhile, the new improvements CEP will perform to Fifa gui.

The new version of CEP will include many improvements to the GUI (the graphical interface) of the game together with the hugest amount of original minikits, banner, stadium flags and other graphical stuff ever realized for a soccer game. Many contributors from all over the world gave their personal contribution to increase the number of new quality stuff that you will find in the final release of CEP for Fifa 2006, among all I can't avoid to citate three of the greatest co-authors of the Career Expansion Patch: Jose Delgado, Vlada "Cilokin" and Didicito.

Jose Delgado is a venezuelan contributor of CEP who started his collaboration since this winter: he can be considered, together with Esterry, one of the main authors of CEP and he's absolutely a genius of kits and minikits designing: his knowlege of southamerican football allowed the CEP to have the most updated rosters and kits for the CONMEBOL teams and his work can be only defined as impressive and huge for quality and quantity. He discovered a new method of minikits creation that allowed the creation of more than 1000 new original and top-quality minikits: now all the teams that previously had only generic or low-quality minikits (a lot of them, especially south american ones, realized by me :D ) have extra-detailed minis in game, updated to last season and wonderful to see in game. Really the work of Jose Delgado with minikits is absolutely impressive and it's absolutely a must-have for every Fifa fans: only the CEP users can discover this wonderful work realized by one of the most important contributors of this project. Jose did much more for this version of CEP, as extremely detailed and updated kits of south american teams for 2006/07 season, many rosters updates for CONMEBOL teams and a great work of data-collecting for southamerican leagues that you will find extra-detailed and updated in CEP 2.0, but this will be the subject of another preview.. I have to segnalate how the greatness of Jose Delgado is to let the facts and his editing creations speaking for his quality of editor, and not the presence on many community forum with many words: in my knowledge of the Fifa editing scene he's indeed one of the best, if not the best editor I have known and it's an honour and a pleasure to have him as main collaborator of this project.

Another wonderful discovery of this version of CEP is a serbian flagmaker, Vlada "Cilokin", from Fifaserbia, who created an impressive number of original, top-quality, extremely realistic in-stadium flags: the main objective of his work has been to create flags for all the teams that don't have one in the original game (i.e. the ones with the awful "generic banners" activated) and to replace some of the worst and no-realistical flags that have been included in the game. The result of this is another impressive quality-quantity extensive work on game flags that you will find in game delighting your matches with realistical banners of your favourite team. You can find the detailed list of the new flags that will be included in the game here on CEP forums.

The CEP 2.0 will perform an original and exclusive collection of new style logos, realized by the excellent and original argentinean collaborator Didicito: Didicito is the first of the Fifa scene who devoted completely his activity to extremely detailed transparency-effects logos of the Fifa teams: with more than 1000 new logos you will be impressed by the amazing quality of his work that will improve the quality and originality of the game GUI. The Didicito's collection of logos is the example of an immense talent in graphical editing devoted to improve our soccer gaming experience.

These are only some examples of the new stuff in graphical interface that you will find in CEP 2.0: more than this you will find all the latest creations from the greatest minis artist of the fifa scene, Agusx, who will delight your eyes with his top-quality creations. In the career modality you will find a lot of innovations in the regional division, now more rational and with a better graphical menu that will displays the flags of the country that you will find in that region. And much more: hundreds of new adboards will give to CEP matches the top of quality and realism, realized by the best artists of the fifa editing scene. So, you will be indeed impressed by how much a patch can improve and transform you Fifa experience: the CEP 2.0 will be the definitive add-on for all Fifa users, waiting for the Fifa 2007 format details to start the work of conversion and provide to all soccer fans their definitive gaming experience.

Much more you will discover with the release of the patch as we prefer facts instead of words. So, can't wait for the new CEP release that will transform one more time and as never before you gaming experience? Release date is very near, in the meanwhile you can wait for CEP Preview 3 that will discover other aspects of the incoming Career Expansion Patch release.

Charlton Athletic 2
Bolton Wanderers 0

It was a match full of rough tackles which ended with a win for the home side. Both sides were reduced to 10 men and the first half ended with the score 0-0. First goal was scored by Bent from the spot in the 65th minute of the match. Bent again put the ball in the back of the net in the 85th minute and gave his side first win of the season.

Fulham 1
Sheffield United 0
Jimmy Bullard once again inspired everyone by scoring the winning goal for his side at Craven Cottage. It was Fulham’s first home win of the season. In the 40th minute of the match he scored the only goal of the match with a superb free kick some 30 yards out which was impossible for the keeper to save and the ball ended up in the back of the net.
Liverpool 2 West Ham United 1
A thunder strike from Agger and a cool finish from Crouch put an icing on the cake on the 100th birthday of the Kop. It was not the perfect start of the match for the home side as they were down to one goal when Zamora shot in a goal from a difficult angle. Till 40th minute it seemed that the Hammers will go in to the half time with a one goal lead but it never happened. In the 42nd minute Agger stunned everyone with a storming strike way outside the box and after three minutes Garcia’s trick pass was put past the goalkeeper by Crouch to give Liverpool a first half lead. One important moment in the 2nd half was the arrival of Kuyt from the bench who was warmly welcomed by the fans who expect a lot from this Dutch striker.
Tottenham Hotspur 0
Everton 2
10 men Everton finished off in style at White Hart Lane by beating the home side easily 2-0. Calum Davenport put the ball in his own net in the 53rd minute and in the 65th minute it was 2-0 when Andy Johnson scored a super goal. After such an outstanding last season, Martin Jol must be very upset on his team’s current performance.
Wigan Athletic 1
Reading 0

Emile Heskey scored his first goal for his new club to push further down the new comer of the Premiership Reading. The goal was scored in the 38th minute of the match.
Watford 1
Manchester United 2

Spring’s unawareness cost his side a lot as they were beaten by the Red Devils at Vicarage Road. It was an entertaining game which was tied one each till the last quarter of the match and it looked that Watford would hold on for a draw but one mistake at the back cost them lose one important point. Now United are at the top gaining max nine points from three matches.
Manchester City 1
Arsenal 0
A very disappointing start to the season for Arsenal as they lost to Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium. Man City also had a very tough last week but Joey Barton’s penalty was enough to give his side the vital three points and a bit of relief for the manager also.

Aston Villa 2
Newcastle United 0

Two first half goals from Luke Moore and Juan Pablo Angel sunk the hopes of Newcastle of getting something on their visit to Villa Park. The big talking point for Newcastle was their rate of injuries. New signing Martins got himself injured trying to win an oncoming header. He was then carried off on a stretcher. Luke Moore scored the first goal in the 2nd minute of the match and Juan Pablo Angel added the 2nd in the 38th minute of the match. With this win now Villa have moved to 2nd spot in the Premiership where as Newcastle are seated in 14th spot at the moment.
Blackburn Rovers 0
Chelsea 2
After their midweek’s defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough, Chelsea needed something from this game. It was a must win game for the champions to catch United at the top. Lampard opening the scoring by putting the ball in the net from the spot and Drogba added a second to give Chelsea all three points and a boost to their campaign also.

English Premier League - Mid Week Review

Our official English Premiership reporter Salman Khalid brings us all the latest news from last midweek (this weekend's reports coming very soon).

Tottenham Hotspur 2
Sheffield United 0

Two first half goals earned Spurs their first home win of the season. It was Berbatov who scored his debut and the first goal for his side in the 7th minute of the match. 10 minutes later Jenas added another to make the score 2-0. Lennon played superbly throughout the match and supplied some breathtaking crosses which were dealt with very difficulty by the Sheffield Utd defense.

Watford 1
West Ham United 1
Watford collected their first point of the Premier League at home when they played against the Hammers. The also could have snatched all three points if luck could have favoured them. After a goal less first half both teams started off with some pace in the 2nd half. Watford took the lead when Marlon King scored in the 63rd minute of the match but within next two minutes Hammers scored the equalizer through their well skilled striker Bobby Zamora.
Wed 23
August 2006

Aston Villa 2
Reading 1
After winning their opening match of the season, Reading lost all three points on their visit to Villa Park. The crowd was not even seated fully when Reading took the lead through Kevin Doyle who scored in the 4th minute of the match. In the 34th minutes of the match, Reading were reduced to 10 men when Sonko was shown the red card on a very rough tackle in the box on one of Villa’s player. Angel scored from the spot to make the score 1-1 and the first half ended with same score. In 61st minute of the match a cross came from Peter Whittingham and Barry put the ball in the back of the net to give the home side something to cheer about. Martin O'Neill must be very happy with his side and hoping the same result in the future in the upcoming Premiership matches.
Blackburn Rovers 1
Everton 1
Tim Cahill once again proved why he is the most trusted player by David Moyes when he came off the bench to score a most needed goal for his side to at least grab a point. Benni McCarthy scored his debut goal for Rovers but Cahill spoiled the party right at the end and the match ended at one goal each.
Charlton Athletic 0
Manchester United 3

Man Utd continued their awesome run at the start of the season by beating Charlton and taking top spot in the league table. It was an easy game for United as they put three goals past the Charlton defence. Darren Fletcher (49th min), Louis Saha (80th min) and Solskjaer (90th min) were the three scorers for United.
Fulham 1
Bolton Wanderers 1
Strikers from both sides were very disappointing as none of them were able to score a goal. Goals from both sides came from the spot. First one was scored by Diouf in the 73rd min and in the last minute of the match another goal was scored from the spot by Bullard to level the match.
Manchester City 0
Portsmouth 0
It was a goalless match at the City of Manchester Stadium as both sides were unable to do well. Last season's hero for Portsmouth Pedro Mendes was carried off on a stretcher as he was very toughly challenged by Thatcher.
Middlesbrough 2
Chelsea 1
After being beaten in the Community Shield Final at the hands of Liverpool, champions Chelsea had to suffer their second defeat of the season when they travelled to the Riverside Stadium. Andriy Shevchenko gave his side a first half lead but it all changed in the last 10 minutes of the match. First Emanuel Pogatetz scored in the 80th minute and then right at the end Mark Viduka scored the winning goal for his side. Chelsea’s boss must be very unhappy the way his side defended in the last quarter of the match and eventually gave away 2 late goals.

CEP 2.0 Preview 1 - The Database

CEP Career Expansion PatchThe release of the final version for Fifa 2006 of the Career Expansion Patch, the CEP 2.0, is coming as the huge work on new teams and leagues is almost completed and is near to start the operation of complete update to 2006/07 rosters and league composition. As we want to provide a wide and complete update to rosters this work will necessary ends after the first days of September as the main quantity of european transfers happens on 30th and 31th August: so I can estimate that a plausible release date can be the weekend of 9/10 September.

The quantity of new things, innovations and radical revolutions applied to the game is so large and long that I decided to dedicate these days that separate us from the release to a serie of preview on what the CEP 2.0 will contain and which modifications it will apport to your gaming experience, as the number of new leagues and teams is not at all the only main feature of our work. I say our work because since the starting of this project the CEP has been transformed in a group of great editors and friends, working at this hobby to transform EA football games: you will discover and know the main CEP authors and partners during these day at CEP 2.0 previews.

This first preview of CEP 2.0 features is dedicated to the database, the numerical core of the game, on which we spent really a lot of time, being the main engine of a game based on a career: CEP will contain something like 30.000 players (!), each one with detailed physical appearance, rational rating and datas. This HUGE work of collection of data has been possible thanks to an appassionate team of "databaters", coordinated by Esterry whose work has been for months (since April!) to research and study over official teams websites, finding datas and pictures: has been wonderful to notice who we received contributions from all over the world, by fans of teams of each country, just dedicated to the passion for football, so different from the isolated episodes of narrow-view jealousies and egoism. All these datas were collected in xls format and re-elaborated by me in fifa-data format. I've user a new "matrix" to generate players values based on position and quality (i.e. wing midfielders - average 60-70) so that every player has unique datas thanks to random variations over hundreds of numerical bases (it's wonderful how many things you can do with Excel and Access coordinated..).

The CEP database will feature some innovations to the game structure itself, based on career mode, innovations that are possible thanks to the ideas of some excellent editors:

1) Fifaccitiu discovered some "hidden" codes inside the Fifa database that generate the type of career development of a single player: these numbers determinate for example how a player will grow during the years, which will be his behaviour, if he will bloom at a mid-age or if he will have a late-blooming. These codes will be added and randomized for all the players in the game and this means that you will have to manage unpredictable players different growings during the game: for example imagine that in your career you buy Fernando Torres from Atletico Madrid, that at the beginning of the game is one of the most promising youths, just to discover that he is a early-bloomer, i.e. a player giving his best at a very young age! Or to buy a Slovakian 1989's to discover that he's a phenomenon, a young brazilian midfielder to discover that he grows as a new Emerson; of course who is a star player, a Rooney, a Ronaldinho etc. will never become a bad player, but maybe with the years someone will be better than them: you will have to discover it. Amazing, right?

2) To add more unpredictability and creativity to the career mode I've adopted a new system to calculate player's potential in game. The "potential" is the 0-100 number that in database determinate how and how much the player will grow, which is effective potential. So Ronaldinho has 99 etc. The new potentials, applied to existing players too, will be much more dynamic and flexible: for example a player with potential of 85 in the original game will have a potential that is random generated between 65 and 95 (85 -20/+10) so you have to discover to which limit the player can arrive and if it's good to seel him before he starts to descending in his potential. And so on: this means that in career mode, for example, in year 2010/11 you can find that the world of football has really changed, that there are new stars playing around the leagues of all the world. Will be much more entertaining to play in an evolutionary world of football instead than in a statical one.

3) Have you noticed how easy is in the original game to spend money on staff components in career and building a "perfect staff" even with lower leagues teams within year? This has been radically changed in CEP, not only with a wide new sponsorship system, featuring dozens of new sponsors based on countries and team prestige (i.e. if you build a winning team reaching first position of your league and winning in europe you will obtain better sponsorships contracts up to the super-rich Nike and SkySports; while SkySports will not be interested anyway in a Finnish team for example) but with a completely renewed staff improvements cost: now if you start with a Third Division team in the game you need at least 6/7 years (maybe more) to transform it in a fully functional first division team with adeguate enomical power, if not you can't substain the cost of star player: so you have to decide if you want to plan your team growth, spending money on structures instead only on players to find you unprepared to upper divisions and struggles.

This work on database took months of daily hours of study, development of coherent numbers series, fixing values and testing, finding informations and elaborate them with calm, all just with Excel sheets (the type of work we'd like to see already included in EA databases...): this is the way to perform a serious editing of Fifa, without utilities elaboration and bugs generation: just numbers, numbers, numbers: we transform these numbers in a game, almost a new game as you will see with CEP 2.0. And of course all this huge work on database will be step by step converted as the the Fifa 2007 db is unveiled.

So, can't wait for the new CEP release that will transform one more time and as never before you gaming experience? Release date is very near, in the meanwhile you can wait for CEP Preview 2 that will discover other aspects of the incoming Career Expansion Patch release, not with words but with facts, as it's in the style of the work of CEP staff.

English Premier League: Middlesbrough 2 Chelsea 1

English Premier League: Middlesbrough 2 Chelsea 1Chelsea took the lead with a Shevchenko goal, dominated the first-half, but lost to two strikes in the last 12 minutes. The defeat was the final surprise in a night full of them.

Chelsea suffered the first blow and surprise when Robben felt tightness in his leg on getting back to the dressing room after the warm-up, and Kalou was upgraded for his full debut. Diarra, who had been left out, stepped up to the bench.

Then Middlesbrough lined up with defender Parnaby in midfield giving them a 4-5-1 formation, mirroring Chelsea’s 4-3-3 but defensively so. On paper, their line-up had looked more like a back five. On Saturday at Reading after going 3-2 down they had changed to a back three and pinned the home team back.

There was a third surprise. The ground was far from full. For Gareth Southgate’s home debut as manager Boro fans failed buy all the seats. Chelsea fans also failed to fill the away allocation. The crowd was 29,198, well below the 35,000 capacity.

  • 0-1: Throughout the opening period Bridge looked sharp up Chelsea’s left, and combined well with all the front three on different occasions. And in the 16th minute Essien provided a wonderful pass, like Robben for the third goal against Manchester City on Sunday, and Bridge hared away again and crossed low for Shevchenko to beat the defence to the ball and stab in his first Premiership goal while falling to the ground.
  • 1-1: Ferreira was booked for bringing down Downing after a poor pass from Carvalho. From the deep free-kick Pogatetz had a free header six yards out and equalised. For all the Boro pressure, it was their first effort on target.
  • 2-1: Chelsea failed to clear a long ball forward, Downing crossed, Yakubu knocked down, Viduka finished. It was their second shot on target and the last minute of normal time.

Terry went forward for stoppage time, but the game was lost. If you don’t take your chances, and you can’t defend your goal, you lose games like this.

FIFA ™ Evolution: The Evolution kicks-off soon!

NK FOOTBALL © V9

FIFA ™ Evolution is NK FOOTBALL ©’s last gameplay update for FIFA ™ 06 and 2006 FIFA World Cup ™, so does it play good? I’d be lying if I said no. This really is the Evolution of FIFA ™ 06 gameplay. So much work has been put into it that it’s un-touchable to tweak any further. Working on builds from V3, V5 and V6, the gameplay is by far the most playable and challenging, but above all, realistic.

There’s more than 1 update to install and this is what makes the final release the most exciting! You’ll have hours of gameplay until FIFA ™ 07 is released next month. No more easy games

FIFA ™ Evolution is due out on the 1st September!

English Premier League: Chelsea 3 Man City 0

English Premier League: Chelsea 3 Man City 0A confident Chelsea hit two goals more than on the two previous opening day fixtures under José Mourinho.

Manchester United were dispatched 1-0 on the corresponding day of the manager’s first competitive fixture here while Wigan suffered a similar loss last season. No-one could describe those wins as comfortable although Wigan troubled Chelsea more than Alex Ferguson’s side. Against the blue half of Manchester the story was different as Mourinho’s men began the campaign in a high gear.

It was familiar names who found themselves on the first scoresheet of the season, the Blues opening up a lead already on the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. In the wake of Man United’s thumping of Fulham earlier in the day, a good showing and plenty of goals were on order from a packed Stamford Bridge. John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba delivered the goods.

Visitors Man City had to play the majority of the second-half with ten men but by that stage, the game was all but out of reach. Chelsea had put clear blue water between the sides before half-an-hour was up.

  • 1-0: An echo of England’s opener last Wednesday, a mere ten minutes had passed when Ferreira was up-ended illegally by a trademark Ben Thatcher tackle. Robben drilled the free-kick in from the right touchline and no-one, not even hefty marker Richard Dunne was going to prevent Terry getting his head to the ball first. From eight yards out, the captain had opened the season’s scoring.
  • 2-0: If Terry’s goal was not already enough similarity between this first-half and England’s against Greece at Old Trafford, Lampard joined in the fun by scoring the second goal, for the second time in a week via a deflection. Richard Dunne was the Man City defender struck by the edge-of-the-area effort, diverting the low shot past his wrong-footed keeper. But if there was a touch of fortune in that, nothing should detract from the superb Lampard turn that proceeded the strike, nor the good work by Robben and Essien in the approach. With 25 minutes gone, last March’s 2-0 home win over this opposition had already been matched.
  • 3-0: The third goal was the goal of the game. It came with 75 minutes on the clock after Chelsea had completely opened up the visitors down our left through wonderful overlapping play by Wayne Bridge. Flying forward, the left-back exchanged passes with Robben and crossed low. Not too low however for Drogba to dive at the near post and brilliantly turn the ball inside Weaver’s near-post with a low-flying header.

So the end result was three goals and a clean-sheet for Carlo Cudicini that puts him second in the all-time Chelsea list for shut-outs. If this was what an under-prepared, not fully-fit Chelsea side can achieve, all looks promising for the weeks ahead.

English Premier League Review

Our official English Premiership reporter Salman Khalid brings us all the latest news from last weekend.

English Premier League Review
Sat 19
August 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
Arsenal 1
Aston Villa 1

Arsenal started their new season campaign with a draw which was played at their new home venue the Emirates Stadium. First half was goalless but in the second half it was Villa who took the lead through Olof Mellberg in the 53rd minute of the match. Arsenal players put pressure on Villa but they were unable to break Villa's solid back line. Then came the moment of inspiration when Arsene Wenger gave the young striker Theo Walcott the chance to change the scenario and he didn’t let down his manager and helped Silva to score the goal at the end to save Arsenal from a defeat.

Bolton Wanderers 2
Tottenham Hotspur 0
Goals from Kevin Davies and Ivan Campo in the 9th and 13th minute respectively gave Wanderers a perfect start to their new season. Spurs who had a terrific last season were not expecting that their new season would start off with a defeat but manager Martin Jol will be hoping that his 20 million spent in the transfer market will give them good results in the future.
Everton 2
Watford 1
It took 10 years for Everton to win their first home game of the season by beating Premiership new comers Watford. Andy Johnson scored the first goal in the 15th min of the match while Arteta scored from the spot Everton’s second goal to confirm his sides three points. Watford scored their only goal in the 90th min of the match through Damien Francis.
Newcastle 2
Wigan Athletic 1
Without Alan Shearer, Newcastle still managed to win their opening math beating Wigan 2-1. Scott Parker scored in the 38th min of the match to give Newcastle the lead which was equalized in the second half by Lee McCulloch. Then in the 64th min Ameobi inspired his boss by scoring a beautiful goal and secured all three points for his team.
Portsmouth 3
Blackburn Rovers 0
Kanu made his dream debut at Portsmouth by scoring two goals and giving all three points to Redknapp who will be very happy after the match. First goal was scored by Svetoslav Todorov and the remaining damage was done by Kanu.
Reading 3
Middlesbrough 2
New comers Reading came back from two goals down and collected all three points in their first game of the Premiership by beating Middlesbrough by 3 goals to 2. It was Middlesbrough who scored early two goals through Stewart Downing (in 11th min) and Aiyegbeni Yakubu (in 21st min) but right before the end of first half, Reading scored 2 goals within the space of 2 minutes and leveled the game at half time. It was again Reading who started brightly the second half and scored their third goal which was the last of the match.
Sheffield United 1
Liverpool 1
Fowler’s penalty in the 70th minute saved Liverpool from unexpected defeat by the hands of Premiership new comers Sheffield United who took an early lead through Rob Hulse right at the start of the second half. It was Gerrard who was brought down in the box and Fowler converted the dead ball in to the goal.
West Ham United 3
Charlton Athletic 1
Two goals in the second half from Bobby Zamora and a goal in the last min of the match from Cole gave the Hammers full three points at home. Charlton took the lead in the first half through a penalty which was scored by Darren Bent in the 15th min of the match. First half ended in favour of Charlton but the Hammers controlled the second half and scored three goals to snatch all three points.
Sun 20
August 2006
Visit our home of the English Premier League
Manchester United 5
Fulham 1
It was a strikers paradise as United totally destroyed Fulham in the opening match of their new season. Louis Saha (7th min), Ian Pearce (own goal 15th min), Wayne Rooney (16th min), Cristiano Ronaldo (19th min) and again Wayne Rooney (64th min) were the scorers for United where as the only goal from Fulham was the result of an own goal by Rio Ferdinand in the 40th min of the match.
Chelsea 3
Manchester City 0
The champions of England started their new season with an easy win over Man City. It was all Chelsea throughout the game. Goals from Terry, Lampard and Drogba proved enough to secure all three points.

FIFA 07 News - Focus on Gameplay

FIFA 07 News - Focus on GameplayIn the build up to the launch of FIFA 07 on 29th September we will be focusing regularly on key aspects of what will hopefully make this the best version of FIFA ever.

Gameplay has been a huge focus for the FIFA 07 team, tweaking every aspect of play from how the ball acts to the variety of player movement in the game. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Improved Gameplay
Passing and positioning have all been enhanced. Players jostle and collide realistically while trying to win balls. Carefully tweaked assisted passing also lends a more fluid feel to the game.
  • Realistic Player Movement
FIFA 07 features over 1500 new animations over a third of which are for shooting. Out of the game's 4,500 animations almost half have been redone or tweaked. Goalies also have many new animations so their reactions are more realistic, particularly on second saves. Quick players have also been tweaked so they're better able to accelerate past defenders.
  • Star Players
The finest players in football will have their special moves in FIFA 07. Use the trick stick to have Ronaldo, Robinho, Ronaldinho, Blanco and others do their footwork magic or watch as Roberto Carlos or Lampard take their signature free kick.
  • Advanced Goalkeeper AI
Goalkeeper intelligence is authentic, with true-to-life reactions and a greater variety of deflections and saves.
  • Set Plays
Use the left analog stick to apply topspin or backspin to the ball for more creative set plays and finesse shots. Ball physics have been redone from scratch this go round so the ball will spin, bounce and generally move how it should. Players can now curve, shank and slice the ball depending on the situation.
  • New Shooting Mechanics
Experience a more sophisticated shooting mechanic that gives you greater control for pin-point accuracy. Shots on goal from regular play are more realistic - the game takes into account player speed, shot angle and speed and how much pressure the player is under. New ball physics accurately recreate bouncing, skidding and topspin.

FIFA 07 News - IGN's FIFA 07 Interview with Producer Joe Booth

FIFA 07 News - IGN's FIFA 07 Interview with Producer Joe BoothIGN were lucky enough to get to interview FIFA 07 producer Joe Booth, who follows the English football club Leeds United! Check out the questions IGN posed to him below:

  • What's your history with EA and the videogame biz?
  • What focus did you have in the audio department this year?
  • What does top spin and back spin add to the game?
  • What are some of the nice moves you can do with the ball this year?
  • How have you improved the Manager mode?
  • Is there any ESPN presence this year?
  • What are Interactive Leagues and how will they improve online gaming?
  • Why didn't you include leagues like Italy's Serie A or USA's MLS in Interactive Leagues?
  • A lot of players really want traditional online leagues where you can play with ten of your buddies. Is that in the works?
  • FIFA has 510 teams, which is amazing. How do you get your info on all of these teams, even the crazy, small third division teams?
  • What do you want people to remember about FIFA 07 a few years from now?

In conclusion, Booth feels that FIFA 07 will be remembered for the tremendous advancements they have made to gameplay and as the year they started Interactive Leagues. Fans of the franchise will appreciate the improvements to gameplay, and he believes that Interactive Leagues will have appeal to fans world wide. It will really unite soccer fans from around the world. This year is just the beginning of what is to come! (let's hope so).

Stick Soccer is Launched

Stick Soccer is LaunchedAs we reported last month about the beta trial, the team that created the Internet phenomenon Stick Cricket, have scored again with the launch of their new online football game, Stick Soccer.

Stick Soccer is sure to become the bane of employers worldwide as football fans, bemoaning the conclusion of the World Cup, take online solace at www.sticksportssoccer.com. It's fast-paced, simple and unrelentingly addictive. Stick Soccer hits the net before the start of the new Premiership and European football season.

Stick Soccer will build on the remarkable impact of Stick Cricket and its 60,000 daily visitors. Office workers from Bolton to Buenos Aires can soon indulge in their love of the beautiful game – albeit in electronic form.

In customary Stick Sports style, the game-play is simple but never simplistic. The controls are straightforward but allow a good selection of sliding tackles and banana shots. The retro feel should appeal to young and veteran gamers alike and the three difficulty levels will provide a suitable test for any player.

Gamers can initially play with a selection of teams from the World Cup, Champions League, Premiership, La Liga, and Serie A - including the disgraced trio of Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina. Players can take control of their favourite club or country and lead them to virtual glory. Just remember that yellow and red cards exist even in cyberspace – so rid that trigger finger of any Rooney infused wrath and let the champagne football bubble through.

Stick Soccer also features:

  • Player registration
  • In-depth player stats including the game’s quickest goals, the most goals conceded and the dirtiest players
  • A range of formation and substitution options

The full game will allow players to compete against their friends in private mates’ leagues and tournaments, as well as the opportunity to play full Premiership, La Liga, Serie A and Champion’s League seasons, saving their team’s progress as they go. Gamers will also be able to play those crucial grudge matches against their friends as an online multiplayer version of Stick Soccer is due to be launched within the year.

Paul Collins, Co-Director of Stick Sports said, “Stick Cricket’s easy charm and addictive game play knocked online gamers for six when it launched in 2004. Such has been the impact amongst young male professionals that it was jokingly suggested to have affected the GDP of Great Britain and Australia. All of us at Stick Sports believe that Stick Soccer can have an even more dramatic effect on the global economy.

FIFA 07 News - Reviews On Tap

FIFA 07 News - Reviews On TapWith the release of FIFA 07 approaching the mad season of honest FIFA 07 reviews is underway. Check out below a number of FIFA 07 reviews from credible sources:

  • 1Up
The game looks great, as well. Player movements transition with a remarkably human fluidity -- that is to say, there's no marionette-jerking as the players suddenly shift from running to kicking, for instance. The developers of FIFA 07 effectively did away with more than half of their database of sprite animations (a database 10 years in the making) to make way for more variety and realism.
  • Computer And Video Games
EA has gone a long way to try and make this the most realistic, most believable football game you've ever played.
  • GameSpot
The other immediately noticeable improvement on the field in FIFA 07 was its shooting system.
  • GameSpy
New ball physics step up the realism; finesse shots feel smooth so far; interactive leagues sound like the best thing to happen to FIFA since getting licensed clubs.
  • IGN
We do know that EA is planning on a new online feature called Interactive Leagues. Don't get too excited just yet, 2K Sports fans. From what we know so far, these leagues are not the same sign-up-with-your-friends-and-jam kind of leagues. Instead, EA is giving you the option to select a favorite team from the English Premiership, Bundesliga, France's LFP or Mexican First Division.

NK FOOTBALL © - FIFA ™ Evolution

NK FOOTBALL © V9

NK FOOTBALL © FIFA ™ Evolution is the next step-up in the FIFA ™ 06 gaming world! Promising to deliver the most realistic gameplay, fine tuned ball physics, a hard-to-break defence and highly skilled CPU goalkeepers, winning is going to take all that you have against the mightiest club teams!

Matches will be harder to dominate and take control over, and will use the new method of ‘player timing’ to help keep defences together and harder to break. In the past, defences were too quick to close down, which ultimately left gaps to play the ball through. Instead players’ will have to work harder and this should give a great sense of achievement

NK FOOTBALL © believes it has nothing to do with pitch size or player scales. The game isn’t flawed by how quickly it takes to get to ones goalkeeper or how the players’ are spaced out. The main issue is timing, players’ running into the oppositions half too often leaving them defenceless and giving you the easy break. The latest effort of the CEP creator Ockham’s gameplay offered a variation on the V6 gameplay (created by NK FOOTBALL ©) with altered pitch size. Interesting to play, but dominating the CPU is still active

CEP gameplay v 1.0!

CEP Career Expansion PatchI've been finally able to pack and up the new CEP gameplay, based on the radical changement of field size. This gameplay starts from the analysis of the game dynamics in Fifa 2006, inspired by an idea of Fifaccitiu: the main reason that leads an expert fifa2006 player to easily dominate the CPU even at the hardest skill levels is based on the wrong proportions of the field compared to players size and to the speed of their movements generated by the Fifa engine. I've found too easy to reach the opponent forwarder in his run to the goal box, and it's absolutely impossible for a player on the Fifa 2006 field to receive ball and organize an attacking action without the possibility for the defence to catch him: this is due to the field dimension, too big, and to the lackness of acceleration by players.

As it's impossible to change the overall acceleration of the players (what is possible to edit through the inis is the ball speed!) Fifaccitiu suggested me to try playing with reduced field size: the result is a much more entertaining game, in which the CPU is much more able to defend properly and, most important, to reach goal box and create attacking actions: the number of shots at goals increased sensibly and the result is that it's always hard to play against an higher rated team. The main problem of this experiment was the position of the players on free kicks and corners: now, with the help of the last utility by Rinaldo, this problem can be resolved and so here is the first version of the CEP gameplay, based on the resizing of the field. The full technical theory behind this gameplay can be found here on soccergaming forums.

This gameplay is realized to be compatible with CEP patch and has not been tested without this expansion. Together with the gameplay exe that changes the field size and all the freekicks (and the ini settings adapted for the new field size) you will find another exe that simply revert the field to the original EA size. If you find the game already hard and difficult enough then I suggest to don't install this gameplay, as it's realized to make the game harder. Personally I've found the game much better with these modifications, almost revolutioned, this is why I want to share it for all the CEP users. Important Note: game settings should be setted at 4 minutes and Slow speed; remember to fatbhbuilder your big files after gameplay installation as it replaces two big archives. You can find this new gameplay in the downloads section of CEP homesite.

FIFA 07 News - Producer Interview

FIFA 07 News - Producer InterviewThe official FIFA 07 website recently sat down with Producer Joe Booth to find out a little more about the game. Check out some of the questions asked below:

  • Will the new crowd emotion changes include things like booing for controversial referee decisions or fouls? What other aspects are there to this area apart from the chanting reflecting the state of play?
  • Does creating your own club include complete kit customization? If so how in depth is it?
  • How has the passing system been improved this year?
  • Interactive Leagues sounds like a nice feature, how have you made sure it isn’t just clubs with the most supporters that win overall?
  • Is dynamic weather in this year? If so, how noticeable will the effect be on the game? For example will the ball bounce less and be harder to control when it’s pouring it down?
  • Are there more licensed boots and balls this year, and can you use all the included boots when creating a player this time?
  • What graphical improvements will we see this year on current gen?
  • How many star players are there that have special moves and playing styles? Can you give us a couple of examples?

FIFA 07 News - Xbox Preview @ Computer And Video Games

FIFA 07 News - Xbox Preview @ Computer And Video GamesIn their words over at Computer And Video Games:

FIFA 07 is changing the game. It's not simply going to recycle the same old gameplay and dump on loads more excessive features that you don't need. This time EA has picked through its past work, wiped out the crap and has given the whole thing a complete overhaul.

We like new FIFA producer Joe Booth's way of thinking: "We didn't want to come out and say we're just adding one or two new features. We wanted to say we're just being passionate about football and really taking the whole experience up. You can't just improve one area without addressing everything else."

And that's exactly what EA has done. We were among the first people outside EA to get our hands on the controls with FIFA 07, and can tell you that EA has gone a long way to try and make this the most realistic, most believable football game you've ever played.

Revolutionary gameplay soon!

CEP Career Expansion PatchA wonderful new for CEP users and generally for all Fifa2006 players: the master Rinaldo, indeed the best hard-core editor of the Fifa scene (you can find his works here on Sweetpatch at the Fifamaster section) found finally a way to decode the positions of the players on free kicks: this means that we now have the way to organize and pack a full functional gameplay inspired by the idea of Fifaccitiu of reducing the size of the field to spread a better dynamics of play in the game. The theorical explication of why this improves the game can be found here on soccergaming forums, and I'm actually at work to prepare a an EXE of the first version of this revolutionary approach to the gameplay of Fifa.

Another excellent new is that CEP users are already submitting excellent flags for the teams that lack banners and flags in the original game and for all the new teams of the CEP patch: Pidza Balavac from the excellent community of Fifaserbia already submitted a bunch of new flags of the highest quality and this will be one more of the many incredible innovations you will find in September in the CEP 2.0: if you want contribute with your flags or adboards for your favourite team just go here on CEP forums and download the psd templates: I will post in the forum the list of the flags already done so we can avoid duplicate. I have the segnalate the wonderful work of Didicito from Argentina, who is submitting an impressive number of extremely original logos for CEP teams: you will be astonished by the quality and originality of his work. Within days, I hope tomorrow, you will find the new CEP gameplay inspired by the ideas of Fifaccitiu, stay tuned then!

No spam on CEP and new templates

CEP Career Expansion PatchI've noticed as in the CEP forums and through the CEP mail I received many questions about release date, state of the work and general progress on the CEP: I think I have been clear enough in my last post here on CEP Sweetpatch site, anyway I'll try to summarize one more time:

- I'm dedicating this summer to CEP working: the work now consists in elaborating inside the database the excellent excel rosters I received (organized in an amazing way by Esterry88) and inside the FSH the bmps of kits. I have to create logos and banners for each one of the team received and sometimes I have to create the kits that I don't receive. This work is summarized extensively in the Status section of the site.

- As I decided to include in CEP 2.0 the rosters and the leagues of the 2006/07 season the release date is necessarily after the conclusion of the summer transfermarket: this mean that I should end the work on CEP 2.0 on September, and then we will need about a week to betatesting intensively.

- If you don't see progress in Status page is because all the packed material needs to be inserted "inside the game": I have to perform what I explained in the first point for each league, test that everything works and so on: doesn't make sense keep packing the material without testing it. I'm performing this for each one of the leagues shown under the section "Done" of the Status page.

- CEP 2.0 "should" include all the elements presented in the Release section: this because I've received the majority of the material shown, but not the whole material: if we'll find the infos and the graphics for all the leagues listed then they will be in the CEP 2.0, if not we will have to wait until the next version. Anyway the stuff added in CEP 2.0 will be absolutely huge, be sure of that.

Generally speaking I don't like to spam on the website showing the progress and the work we do with unuseful spot-post as "Hey, look at this brand new video of CEP performing a new Lithuanian team!": frankly the work is so impressive that we don't have neither the time or the wish to do this, we (this means me and all the excellent contributors we have for the CEP) prefer working for this hobby giving to Fifa users a brand new game with thousands of teams and players from all around the world. An example: Jose Delgado, who actually is together with Esterry the main co-author of CEP, submitted an INCREDIBLE work of minikits: not simply a pack, but an huge collection of about 500 minikits amazingly detailed: it's not our style to write spots about the quality of these submissions, you will find them in the CEP and will be properly presented at their release, and so on.

And we make this for hobby: EA doesn't help us much, we don't receive money and we don't collaborate officially for the Fifa database: we just like to update Fifa in the most sistematic and extensive way and we want to share our passion with all the CEP users. Bus as we do it for hobby, then it's not our work so when real life calls for more important things or just for more relax we just want to take it easy. Summarizing: don't ask for release dates and similar things, I think I give a lot of informations about the status of our hobby-work: just enjoy what we have to offer and if you want to partecipate just join us: we love to work in team.

As I posted in the previous post, I found a solution for the fifa.fat limitation that means to be able to add more stuff to our CEP: when this limitation existed I renounced to create more flags and adboards for the new teams, but now that this limitation is no more we can make our CEP more and more complete. This is why I created more PSD (Adobe Photoshop) templates to create adboards and flags, together with the ones for kits that are dedicated anyway to the contributors helping us in creating the league. Creating adboards and flags is extremely easy: just a small knowledge of Photoshop is needed: paste your bmps of flags and adboards inside the PSD template, export them in bitmap format and submit them to me through mail af fifaock AT yahoo.it. In the original game a lot of teams lack of flags and use generic ones, you can find the list of the teams that need flags in this list, so we will wait for your contributions to the CEP project: you can find these templates in this section of CEP forums.

FIFA 07 News - GamesMaster: FIFA 07 Play-Test Hands On

FIFA 07 News - GamesMaster: FIFA 07 Play-Test Hands OnNK Football, master developer of the NK Football Gameplay series here exclusively with Sweetpatch, has read an interesting article in the latest copy of GamesMaster. We have reproduced below his posting from the Soccer Gaming Forums.

From the sounds of it in the magazine, they say it's possibly going to beat PES. They said for the first time ever in a FIFA game, when they were told to stop playing after 4 hours none-stop, they were gutted! The ball physics are better and from what I saw in a screenshot, it showed $ not points, which means it's real cash guys.

You can bend corners now, goal keepers have loads more animations and players' like Ronaldinho, C ronaldo, Carlos, etc have their skill moves, Carlos has his free kick as will Lampard (both mentioned), so I'm guessing Becks will too!

'Glory mode' in the game is cool. Once you start winning 3, 4-0, the game realises you're the winning team and the animations of certain players' become rather 'show-off' like. It says 'cheekier' animations for passing, crossing, shooting, etc......but they said the game IS simulation and an interview with the guys in charge at EA say they didn't want the goalkeeping and shooting from the World Cup game. It says that shooting is based on more factors from;

They say if shooting isn't satisfying, your game is going to struggle, meaning they've really tried to make it rewarding. "we tried to simulate real football, so nailing the ball physicals was vital. For instance, spin is now integrated, so people can shank, slice and screw shots all over the place. We feel we've now achieved that vast variety of shots people see on the football pitch every Saturday afternoon. On top of that we've also added context sensitivity system. Lots of factors go into this, including shot speed, movement speed, kicking angle, whether you're under pressure, what speed the ball is coming at you and player skill"
