UEFA Champions League Review

Following Matchday 2 yesterday we check out a brief summary of all the action below: UEFA Champions League Review
Group E

Schalke 2
AC Milan 2

Strikes from Søren Larsen and Hamit Altintop enabled FC Schalke 04 to come from behind twice and cancel out AC Milan goals from Clarence Seedorf and Andriy Shevchenko in a pulsating 2-2 draw in UEFA Champions League Group E.

Fenerbahçe 3
PSV 0
Brazilian midfielder Alex was on target twice as Fenerbahçe SK opened their UEFA Champions League Group E account with an impressive victory over ten-man PSV Eindhoven at the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium.
Group F
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Rosenborg 0
Lyon 1
Olympique Lyonnais went top of UEFA Champions League Group F after extending Rosenborg BK's winless home run in the competition to seven games. The French champions were indebted to a header from Cris just before half-time to continue their 100 per cent record in the section.
Real Madrid 2
Olympiacos 1
A late header from substitute Roberto Soldado earned Real Madrid CF a valuable, but narrow, UEFA Champions League victory against a valiant Olympiacos CFP in the Spanish capital. The Greek visitors appeared to have earned a point as Pantelis Kafes scored three minutes into the second period, the Olympiacos midfielder cancelling out Raúl González's ninth-minute effort. The Madrid forward's header made him the first player to register 50 goals in the European Champion Clubs' Cup - yet only looked good enough for a point until Soldado struck.
Group G
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Liverpool 0
Chelsea 0
Liverpool and Chelsea fought out a scoreless draw in Group G as last season's winners and losing semi-finalists shared the spoils at Anfield. The London club had arrived on Merseyside intent on avenging their semi-final defeat last May but in the end Jose Mourinho's side were happy to leave with a point in a match that Liverpool dominated without creating too many clear-cut chances.

Anderlecht 0
Real Betis 1

A 69th-minute Ricardo Oliveira goal settled an open and entertaining Group G game as Real Betis Balompié beat RSC Anderlecht 1-0 at the Constant Vanden Stock stadium. The Seville club's first-ever UEFA Champions League win condemned Anderlecht to their ninth straight group stage defeat.
Group H

Internazionale 1
Rangers 0
FC Internazionale Milano could afford to miss a penalty and still defeat Rangers FC at an empty San Siro as David Pizarro fired the Italian side to maximum points and sole tenancy of pole position in Group H.
Porto 2
Artmedia 3
Another night of high European adventure for FC Artmedia Bratislava as they staged an incredible comeback from two goals down against FC Porto at the Estádio do Dragão to win 3-2 and secure their first points of the group stage.

FIFA 06 News - Behind the Scenes at the TV Advert

FIFA 06 News - Behind the Scenes at the TV Advert The TV advertising for FIFA 06 features the world's biggest Winner Stays On tournament with Manchester United taking out the mighty Brazil in the first round, only to be taking on FC Barcelona straight afterwards - a quick kit change for Ronaldinho.

The advert was filmed back in August at the Estadi Olympic stadium in Barcelona, using over 350 extras and 4 top flight football stars - Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney plus cameo appearances from Patrice Evra and Lucas Podolski.

Shooting of the ad covered every inch of the stadium from 9am to 11pm over 2 days. For what must be a first for a football focused ad, as much time was spent behind the scenes at the stadium, with tunnels and shower rooms packed with players and extras as there was on the pitch itself.

At times the shoot looked more like a 5-a-side tournament as - between takes - stars, extras and crew took time out to kick a footy around.

EA took the time to grab a quick question or two with Wayne Rooney during the shoot and you can read Wayne's answers and see all the screen shots and by clicking here.

UEFA Champions League Review

Following Matchday 2 yesterday we check out a brief summary of all the action below: UEFA Champions League Review
Group A
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Bayern Munich 1
Club Brugge  0

FC Bayern München secured a second straight 1-0 win in Group A, but profligate finishing and a lack of attacking ambition kept the German title-holders sweating until the end in the first UEFA Champions League game at the München Arena. Argentinian anchorman Martin Demichelis scored the only goal, prodding high into the net on 32 minutes, but the scoreline fails accurately to convey the measure of dominance Bayern enjoyed. However, Roy Makaay, Michael Ballack and José Paolo Guerrero all failed to convert good chances to double the lead.

Juventus 3
Rapid Vienna 0
Juventus FC continued their perfect start to the 2005/06 UEFA Champions League as they gained a comfortable win against SK Rapid Wien. David Trezeguet's first-half goal was added to in the final ten minutes by Adrian Mutu and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Fabio Capello's side already look on course for progress from Group A ahead of their twin fixtures with FC Bayern München, while the Austrian champions are still searching for a first point.
Group B
Visit our home of the UEFA Champions League
Ajax 1
Arsenal 2
Goals from Fredrik Ljungberg and Robert Pirès earned Arsenal FC an impressive 2-1 win at AFC Ajax, a result that put the visitors firmly in control of UEFA Champions League Group B. Ljungberg put the English side in front as early as the second minute, and when Pirès doubled the lead from the penalty spot midway through the second half the three points looked assured. Markus Rosenberg pulled a goal back almost immediately, but Arsène Wenger's team survived the final 19 minutes for a win that gives them a three-point cushion at the top of the table.
Thun 1
Sparta Prague 0
Selver Hodzic secured FC Thun's first ever victory in the UEFA Champions League group stage with a last-minute goal that ended spirited AC Sparta Praha's hopes of taking a point from their visit to Berne. Just as the Czech champions looked to have earned a draw with a disciplined display, the Thun defender crept in at the far post to turn José Gonçalves' low left-wing cross into the bottom corner of the net to secure a narrow win that moved the Swiss debutants into second place in Group B.
Group C

Panathinaikos 2
Werder Bremen 1
Two goals in the first eight minutes helped Panathinaikos FC win their first points in UEFA Champions League Group C and consign ten-man Werder Bremen to their fourth consecutive defeat in the competition and bottom spot.
Barcelona 4
Udinese 1
A Ronaldinho hat-trick paved the way for FC Barcelona to mark their 150th European Champion Clubs' Cup game with a Group C victory against Udinese Calcio.

Ruud van Nistelrooij struck a late winner as Manchester United FC overcame a tough challenge from Portuguese champions Benfica SL to move to the top of Group D with a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Argentina Torneo Apertura 2005 News

Today we welcome new Official Sweetpatch Reporter for Argentina’s Torneo Apertura 2005, Jim Lau-Totime, as he brings us a summary of all day 8's action:

Argentina Torneo Apertura 2005 News
Vélez Sarsfield 1
Newell's 0

Velez follows a brilliant beginning of championship with a good victory against Newell’s. Thanks to Castroman, best player of this game. “El Fortin” confirms and always favourite for win this tournament.

Estudiantes LP 1
River Plate  0

The surprising result of this eightieth day of this Opening tournament. River defeated again, a hard beginning in this championship. Against Estudiantes, los Millionarios can’t worry the defence of “Los Pinchas Ratas” meanwhile the striker Calderon find the solution and scored the only goal of this game.

Independiente 1
Tiro Federal 0

After laughter comes many tears for the Red Devils of Independiente. Frutos scores quickly and Independiente wins but the prodigy Agüero (17 years) was expulsed. It’s a big problem for the coach for substitute for the next match (against River) the world champion sub-20 few month ago.

Olimpo (BB) 1
Quilmes 0

Olimpo wins against Quilmes thanks to Maggiolo. A good result again for Bahia Blanca who reach the first part of the league table.

Gimnasia (Juj) 2
Colón (Sta.Fe) 2
A scary game between two teams in danger in this championship. This draw shows lack of confidence, and the defensive problems Colon thought win the match at the end of the first period but the experience of Serrizuela (ex Mallorca) permits to Gimnasia to earn 1 point.
Boca Juniors 2
Racing Club 0
Great match for Boca who play their best football since the beginning of this tournament. A comfortable victory which threatens Racing’s coach, Guillermo Rivarola under pressure after 3 games and no success.
Rosario Central 0
Gimnasia LP 3
It’s too hard to accept but Central defeat at home. Because Gonzalo Vargas scored an hat trick, his three first goals. 5 minutes was enough for make cry Rosario, 5 minutes who reminds UEFA Champions League Finals.
Lanús 1
Argentinos Jrs. 1
Lañus thought he made it harder when Archubi scores at the end of the first period but the Argentinos play maker Pisculichi scores for the draw at the beginning of the second period thanks to a nice free kick.
Instituto (Cba) 2
San Lorenzo 0
San Lorenzo believes travelling in Cordoba quietly and return at home always at the head of the tournament. Unfortunately, Instituto wanted their first victory in this championship. Pilipauskas and Bergessio made the difference in first period and Cordoba earns 3 very important points. “El ciclon” (San Lorenzo) lost this match and first place who profit at The Xeneizes (Boca Juniors) winner against Racing.
Arsenal 1
Banfield 1
With 15 points Banfield was first of this tournament with San Lorenzo. The Taladros can take first place alone after they lost match with San Lorenzo. But the opponent of the day is Arsenal, winner of Newell’s Old Boys away last week. Very hard to find solution against a strong team.

Major League Soccer News

Official Sweetpatch Reporter for America’s Major League Soccer (MLS), David Gwydir, brings us a summary of all the weekend's action:

Major League Soccer News
NE Revolution 1
Metrostars 0

James Riley’s goal in the 85th minute secured a playoff spot for MLS Cup and avenged last week’s 5-4 loss to the Metros. The second half substitute scored his first professional goal that kept New England in first place in the Eastern Conference. The loss does not help the Metrostars chances for playoff action.

Real Salt Lake 1
Columbus Crew 2

Edson Buddle’s two goals were enough to give the visitors the victory in Salt Lake City, Utah. Buddle scored early in the first half and again in first half stoppage time to keep the Crew’s playoff hopes alive. Real Salt Lake made the match interesting at the end on a goal by Andy Williams in the 86th minute. Salt Lake has no chance to make the playoffs in their first season.

CD Chivas USA 1
Colorado Rapids 3

Colorado won for only the second time this season on their travels with a 3-1 won over Chivas. Jean-Philippe Peguero of the Rapids and Arturo Torres of Chivas traded first half goals as the teams were even at the break. Jovan Kirovski scored from the penalty spot to give Colorado the lead for good. Dedi Ben Dayan scored from close range to finish off the match. Colorado qualifies for the playoffs with the victory and Chivas nightmare season is coming to an end.

San Jose Earthquakes 1
FC Dallas 1

The Earthquakes clinched first place in the Western Conference with a draw at home to FC Dallas. Ramon Nunez gave Dallas the lead on a penalty shot in the 58th minute. San Jose gained control of the match from that point on and were rewarded for their efforts in the 68th. Brian Ching slid to knock in a failed clearance from FC Dallas defender Drew Moor.

LA Galaxy 2
Kansas City Wizards 1
Marcelo Saragosa scored the game winning goal in the 74th minute, just two minutes after Kansas City’s Josh Wolff had equalized the match. Herculez Gomez had given Los Angeles the lead in the 33rd on a well-placed volley from 18 yards out. American international Landon Donovan assisted on both goals for the Galaxy.

English Premier League Review

Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the English Premier League, Salman Khalid, brings us a summary of all the latest action: Barclays Premiership Review
Sat 24
Sep 2005
Visit our home of the English Premier League
Birmingham 2
Liverpool 2
It was a nail biting second half at St Andrews full of thrill and goals. First half was goal less but in the 2nd half, within 17 minutes four goals were scored and another draw for Liverpool. Luis Garcia opened the scoring in 67th minute but minutes later Warnock scored an own goal and leveled the score. The blues struck again and gained the lead and before they could celebrate their first home win, Neil Kilkenny gave away the penalty which Cisse comfortably put beyond Taylor and rescued the frustrated reds. At least the blues were a bit happy as they drew the game but it was all frustration for Benitez as they drew their 4th game of the season with only one win from last 5 games.
Bolton 1
Portsmouth 0
Bolton on their superb form this season had three points in the bag as Kevin Nolan scored the only goal of the game. Bolton have now taken 13 points from a total of 15 as yet and they are in the top half of the table while Portsmouth are struggling to gain some points. It was an exciting match not full of goals but full of action.
Chelsea 2
Aston Villa 1
Chelsea once again on the move and completed their unbeaten run in the opening 7 games of the season as they beat Aston Villa 2-1. It was all Frank Lampard who scored one goal in each half to make sure that Chelsea remain unbeaten. Chelsea in this match also conceded their first goal of the season which was scored by Moore but it was not enough to stop them and they remain on the top with 21 points on the board.
Everton 0
Wigan 1
Wigan Athletic's super start of their first ever Premier League season continues as they beat struggling Everton. Thanks to Damien Francis’ 46th minute goal which gave a vital three points to his team. Everton with this defeat are now at the bottom of the table and this is their sixth straight defeat. Looking at the current form of Everton, David Moyes really needs to work hard if they want to survive this season.
Man United 1
Blackburn 2
Morten Pedersen’s two goals gave the Rovers an historic win over United and after almost 43 years they had never won any match at Old Trafford. It was leveled 10 minutes before the end of the game but a slight error from Scholes allowed Pederson to blast in his 2nd goal. A historic day for Rovers but disappointment for United.
Newcastle 1
Man City 0
Owen’s 2nd goal for his new club gave Newcastle their first home win of the season. Owen slammed the goal by beating his fellow country goal keeper David James in the 18th minute of the match. Although Newcastle were missing it's key players like Kieron Dyer, Solano and Luque but they performed very well and collected the 3 points.
WBA 1
Charlton 2
Two goals from Murphy helped Charlton maintain their unbeaten away record and are currently placed 2nd in the league table. First goal came from a penalty as Jerome Thomas was brought down in the box and Murphy made no mistake to make it 1-0. After 30 minutes another goal came in and this time it was again Murphy. Although West Brom struck back after the first half through Davies but it was not enough to stop Charlton and match ended at 2-1 in favour of Charlton.
West Ham 0
Arsenal 0
It was an exciting encounter between Arsenal and West Ham at Upton Park but it all ended in a goal less draw. It maybe a good result for West Ham’s boss but for Arsen Wenger, it was not enough as they are far away from Chelsea who’s at the top.

Middlesbrough 0
Sunderland 2
Sunderland chose derby day on Teeside to end their 27-game wait for a Barclays Premiership victory as Middlesbrough became their first top-flight victims since December 2002. Midfielder Tommy Miller got the visitors off to a dream start when he fired home off the foot of a post with less than two minutes gone, and a victory which takes Mick McCarthy’s men off the foot of the table was sealed by Julio Arca’s superb free-kick on the hour.

Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Portuguese BetandWin League, Miguel Carmo, brings us an update of Friday's match from the league: Portuguese BetandWin.com League News
Penafiel 1
Benfica 3

Benfica won 3-1 in a very good game! In the first half Benfica scored two goals in 9 minutes, with Simão Sabrosa and Nuno Gomes commanding the team and scoring the first half goals. Penafiel were a confused team that couldn’t create any opportunity.

The second half was boring until the 80th minute when Penafiel scored the 1-2 by their best player Marco Ferreira. 3 minutes later Nuno Gomes scored a fabulous goal and sealed the victory for Benfica.

Livorno continue their very good performance as they are still unbeaten in the Lega Calcio after a goalless draw with Messina.

English Premier League: Chelsea 2 Aston Villa 1

English Premier League: Chelsea 2 Aston Villa 1The football world got the game it was looking for at Stamford Bridge, the home side properly tested by Aston Villa. The team was asked to react to conceding a goal at long last yet to the dismay of those hoping to challenge us this season, Chelsea power came up with all the right answers.

After nearly six-and-a-half games, Villa were the chosen team to pierce the defence and it looked as if José Mourinho would be making his half-time talk with his team in arrears.

But then Frank Lampard stepped forward and one opportunist free-kick and one cleanly struck penalty later, normal service had been resumed. David O’Leary’s Villa were positive enough to play with two up front and proved that formation was no obstacle to defending well, but the first team to take points off Chelsea last season weren’t to be granted an encore.

This is now without doubt Chelsea's best start to the season ever. Even before Arsenal and Man United dropped points, it was already another satisfactory Saturday afternoon.

Scottish Premier League Review

Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Scottish Premier League, Gaz Scott, brings us a summary of all the action from the weekend's matches: Scottish Premier League Review
Hearts 1
Rangers 0

Roman Bednar grabbed the winner as Hearts recorded their eighth straight league win to pull 11 points clear of reigning champions Rangers.

The Czech striker headed home from a Paul Hartley corner to give the SPL leaders an early advantage. First-half injuries to Bednar, Takis Fyssas and Rangers' Nacho Novo helped create a scrappy game of few chances. Rangers were denied a penalty late on when a Francis Jeffers shot deflected clear off the arm of Robbie Neilson.

Celtic 2
Inverness Caley 1

Craig Beattie grabbed a double as Celtic kept pace with leaders Hearts after coming back from behind to defeat Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

A mixture of poor Celtic finishing and superb goalkeeping from Mark Brown ensured a stalemate at half-time. Dennis Wyness fired Caley Thistle into the lead after a fine move, but Beattie slotted home after being found by Shaun Maloney and broke clear to add the winner soon after, being set up by Shunsuke Nakamura.

Motherwell 1 Hibernian 3

Hibernian collected the points at Fir Park after carving Motherwell open with some enterprising attacking play.

Guillaume Beuzelin put Hibs in front after 20 minutes with a free header from Derek Riordan's corner. Hibs squandered several good chances before Michael Stewart bundled in a loose ball after Graeme Smith parried a 68th-minute shot from Garry O'Connor. Riordan fired an angled strike in off the post on 80 minutes before Richie Foran netted from the penalty spot

Aberdeen 0
Livingston 0

Struggling Livingston fought hard to earn a valuable point at Pittodrie after Steve Lovell missed a second-half penalty for Aberdeen.

Dons goalkeeper Ryan Esson had to make a smart save to deny Livi striker Paul Dalglish in the first half. Stevie Crawford came agonisingly close for the home side when his 67th-minute shot cannoned off the woodwork. Aberdeen were awarded a penalty when Allan Walker handled but Lovell blasted the spot-kick high over the crossbar.

Dunfermline 2
Dundee United 1

Dunfermline Athletic battled from behind to record a deserved victory over Dundee United - their first in the Scottish Premier League this season.

Derek Young missed a glorious early chance for the Pars before David McCracken headed United into the lead. But Tod headed home a Lee Makel corner after the break to equalise. And Greg Ross, who had only started because Darren Young pulled up in the warm-up, fired in the winner from 12 yards for Jim Leishman's side.

Kilmarnock 1
Falkirk 1

Falkirk managed to pick up a valuable point at Rugby Park as Kilmarnock failed to build on recent good form.

After 10 minutes Peter Leven was woefully short with a back pass and Alan Gow pounced to shoot low past Alan Combe and put Falkirk in front.

But Killie were soon back on level terms when Kris Boyd scored from the penalty spot after he was bundled over. Falkirk tired in the closing stages but the home side failed to capitalise when chances came their way.

Manager of Maritimo Juca sacked

The CS Maritimo manager Juca was sacked due the bad results achieved by the team! Jose Couceiro, former manager of FC Porto, and Vitor Pontes are the first choices to be the next Maritimo manager.

Naval 2
Boavista 2

It was a very good game with a fair result. Both Naval and Boavista justified their good start to the season! The 2-2 result explains what happened in the field! Good football, opportunities for both teams to win the match. Fogaça and Cadu (og) scored for Naval and Fary, Guga for Boavista.

Rio Ave 2
Estrela Amadora 1

A very competitive game with a fair result. Rio Ave tried since the beginning to finish the match quickly but Estrela on the counter-atack were a dangerous team. Gaucho and Marquinhos scored for Rio Ave, Manu scored for Estrela.

Braga 0
FC Porto 0
A very exciting game that deserved goals. Great opportunities to Braga and Porto to win the game. The 0-0 doesn’t show the great game that it was, there are some games like that… Paulo Santos goalkeeper of Braga was the star of the game.
Belenenses 3
Guimaraes 1
Belenenses won their third game in a row. Great game from Belenenses a very attacking team, that is showing superb football. Guimaraes with this result stays in last place four games zero points. Meyong 2 times and Silas scored for Belenenses, Benachour scored for Guimaraes.

Italian Lega Calcio Review

Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the Italian Lega Calcio, Mahmoud Hagi, brings us a summary of all the recent action: Italian Lega Calcio Review
Juventus 2
Ascoli 1
In this game we saw two very good teams where Juventus continue their perfect start this season in order to defend the title when they won the game by two goals to one through Del Piero, who proved that he needs to be a starter to show his good abilties. Also we can't deny the good effort from the very well organised team Ascoli who I think will stay in this division for coming seasons and were the first tem to score a goal against the strong defence of Juventus through Alfredo.
AC Milan 1
Sampdoria 2
In a surprising match Sampadoria took over the game by two goals to one as they beat AC Milan to give Carlo Ancellotti think over his players & his bad results in the league this season if he really wants to hold the title this season as he announced in the begining of the season. The three goals came through Alberto Gillardino scoring for AC Milan while the other two goals were scored by Bonzattoli & Tonitto.
Fiorontina 4
U udinese 2
Fiorontina crushed Udinese by four goals to two in a very good competitive game to continue their very good start this season in order to regain their good history from many years ago when they had the best play maker at that time Rui Costa and the best goalscorer Batigoal. By this result they jumped in the league table as they reached their seventh point. Stefano Fiore scored & Luca Toni scored two goals & Donadel scored for Fiorontina while Montari & Laquinta scored for the beaten side Udinese.
Lazio 3
Trevisio 1
Lazio impressed when they crushed the worst side this season Trevisio who didn't take any points untill now when they got over them by three goals to nil in a very one sided game. By this result Lazio continues its perfect start this season along with Fiorontina. The goals came through Rochi, Gondan Bandif & Masimmo Oddo scoring for Lazio while Pinga scored the only goal for Trevisio.
Inter 3
Lecce 0
In a very one sided game Inter beat Lecce easily by three goals to nil in a game that could witness many other goals but for the easy chances wasted by Inter strikers. By this result Inter are still in the race for the title with the goals scored by Obafami Martins, Julio Cruz & Stankovic.

The new Parma striker Corradi, who came from a very bad season with Valencia in last season, scoes the winning goal for Parma to give them their first three points in the new season after a very bad start.

Palermo 2
Siena 1

Palermo continues their very good start run in this season after beating the very bad team by two goals to one. Christian Terlecci & Steven Macinoa scores the two goals fo Palermo while Locatelli scores the only goal for Siena
Messina 1
Cagliari 1
In a game that ended with a result that couldnt benefit any of the two teams Cagliari draw with Messina one goal for each of them where David Suazo scores for Cagliari & Masimmo Donatti scores for Mesinna.
Chievo Verona 3
Reggina 1
Reggina continues their very bad start this season along with Trevisio & Siena as they were beaten by three goals to one in their game with Chievo Verona. Daniell Franschenni doubles & Mendelli scores for Verona while Frabcesco Cotza scores the only goal for Reggina.

FIFA-MRA.com is 6 years old today!

Yes, it is now 6 years since that fateful day when we first introduced ourselves to the world as follows:

"22/09/1999 - Hi, my name is David Witts (Wittser) and I live in Old Polzeath, Cornwall in the UK. The idea for this utility first arose when I had an enforced break from work recently and spent more time online playing games of FIFA99. It became obvious that a utility such as this could provide part of the FIFA99 community with a facility which was lacking currently, i.e. the ability to easily administer multiple rosters, kits, etc... within one version of the game.

It is envisaged that this utility will provide a facility that is required by both players and league managers of the FIFA series. Please feel free to pass constructive comments/criticism to myself via e-mail. Your comments are valuable to the successful development of this utility."

So that is where the Multi Roster Assistant (MRA) name first arose from, the rest is 6 years of history.

Check out our first ever site and our first month of news by clicking here and follow all 6 years news by clicking here.

We will have some more great birthday news for you later today so check back as you wont be disappointed (we hope).

English Premier League Review

Today we welcome new Official Sweetpatch Reporter for the English Premier League, Salman Khalid, as he brings us a summary of all the latest action: Barclays Premiership Review
Aston Villa 1
Spurs 1
Robbie Keane became the hero for Spurs when he came off the substitute’s bench to score a late equalizer in the 78th minute against Aston Villa. The home side started brighter and new signing Baros along with Angel linked well and threatened the Spurs keeper Robinson but he was solid between the sticks. The first goal came early with a superb run from Baros who then gave a pass to James Milner who made no mistake to put it past the keeper. In the end both teams had to share one point each.
Charlton 0 Chelsea 2
Jose Mourinho’s side once again proved that they are the best in the Premier League as they won their 5th consecutive league game. Charlton tried their best but they couldn’t beat the class of Hernan Crespo and Dutch star Robben. It was a goalless first half. Both goals came in the 2nd half. Kishishev’s mistake was enough for Essien who delivered a cross to Crespo who headed it to the left of the keeper and the score was 1-0. Five minutes later Robben killed all hopes of the home side when he superbly shot in the top left corner giving the keeper no chance at all and the match ended in defeat for the home side.
Fulham 1
West Ham 2
Newly promoted West Ham Utd once again provided inspiration for Marlon Harewood and secured their 2nd win of the league after blasting Aston Villa 4-0. First half ended 0-0 but the deadlock was broken a minute after the restart when Harewood scored from close range. Five minutes after the first goal it was 2-0 in favour of West Ham and they were in the driving seat. The only goal from Fulham came from Boa Morte in the 66th minute and the game ended 1-2.
Portsmouth 1
Birmingham 1
In spite of the sending off of Butt, Birmingham survived the whole second half and managed to take one point with 10 men on the field. Lua Lua scored with a header from a corner kick and gave Portsmouth the lead. In return Birmingham struck the equalizer just after 2 minutes by Jarosik who headed in from close range.
Sunderland 1
WBA 1
Zoltan Gera was the man who dumped the hopes of thousands of Sunderland’s fans by scoring an equalizer in injury time. The full back for Sunderland Gary Breen gave the home crowd something to cheer when he struck goal in the 58th minute but it was not enough as West Brom equalized in the dying moments and Sunderland had to settle for a draw.
Liverpool 0
Man United 0
This was the biggest match of the week as both teams were hungry for points to close the gap on Chelsea but both failed to do so and the match ended in a goal less draw. Liverpool were the better of the two sides and they were looking better than last season but failed to find the back of the net. Man Utd had little to trouble Reina and they were completely jam packed by Rafael Benitez side and didn’t give enough space for Rooney or van Nistelrooy to threaten Reina.
Blackburn 0
Newcastle 3
Michael Owen finally got off to a start for his new club as Newcastle enjoyed their comfortable win over Blackburn. The first goal was scored by the great Shearer from a superb free kick and the second was scored by Owen. Third goal came 3 minutes before the end when N’Zogbia teased Friedel.
Man City 0
Bolton 1
It was really a bad day for Stuart Pearce as his side’s 13 match unbeaten run came to an end in a horrible fashion when Gary Speed scored in injury time from a penalty. Man City had a lot of chances in the game to score a goal but they failed to and in the end paid the price.
Wigan 1
Middlesbrough 1
Henri Camara came off the bench to earn a point for Wigan Athletic and showed worrying signs for Middlesbrough who are now a days having a bad run both in EPL and UEFA Cup. It was Middlesbrough who took the lead in 14th minute through Yakubu but failed to score more goals and with 21 minutes left on the clock, Wigan boys leveled the score.
Arsenal 2
Everton 0
Stand-in captain Sol Campbell produced an inspirational performance as he led Arsenal to a commanding victory against Everton with two towering headers at Highbury.

Major League Soccer News

Today we welcome new Official Sweetpatch Reporter for America’s Major League Soccer (MLS), David Gwydir, as he brings us a summary of all the latest action.

It was an exciting week in the MLS, with five of the six matches being decided by one goal or less:

Major League Soccer News
Columbus Crew 1
Chicago Fire 2

A pair of goals by Chicago striker Chris Rolfe proved too much for the Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Columbus Crew Stadium. Rolfe provided an early goal in the 5th minute against the struggling Crew. Knox Cameron leveled the match in minute 80 with a low shot past Zach Thornton. Rolfe secured the full three points for Chicago with a sliding goal in the 84th.

DC United 2
Colorado Rapids 0

In a critical late-season match up with playoff position implications for both teams, D.C. United wore out the Colorado Rapids, running away with a 2-0 victory on the strength of two second half goals from Christian Gomez and Jaime Moreno. With the win, United remained in second place in the East, now three points ahead of the Chicago Fire, while the Rapids are still in fourth place in the Western Conference.

Metrostars 5
New England Revolution 4

Youri Djorkaeff scored on an amazing shot from a tight angle in the 86th to keep the Metro’s playoff hopes alive. Djorkaeff’s goal ended a wild match that saw the Metrostars take a 3-1 lead, only to find themselves down 4-3 late in the second half on Taylor Twellman’s league leading 15th goal of the season. Mike Magee leveled the match in the 76th minute to set up Djorkaeff’s heroics.

Kansas City Wizards 2
Los Angeles Galaxy 2

Two late goals by Davy Arnaud and Josh Wolff capped off a furious comeback for the Wizards. The Wizards found themselves two goals down after 36 minutes on goals by the Galaxy’s Chris Albright and Herculez Gomez. The draw sees the Wizards move to fourth place in the Western Conference, and into the last playoff spot.

CD Chivas USA 1
San Jose Earthquakes 2

The San Jose Earthquakes fought back from a late deficit to steal a 2-1 win in stoppage time against Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center on Saturday. Alejandro Moreno scored on a diving header in second half stoppage time after Danny Califf equalized in the 81st minute. Chivas took a lead early in the second half off a Ramon Ramirez free kick. His efforts were not enough as Chivas miserable season continues with loss number 20.

FC Dallas 2
Real Salt Lake 1
FC Dallas finally achieved their first win in their new stadium, Pizza Hut Park. Roberto Mina’s 4th and 5th goals of the season led Dallas to victory. Jamie Watson brought Salt Lake to within a goal in the 54th minute. FC Dallas dominated play with a whopping 23 shots to Real Salt Lake’s 6. The Hoops also secured a playoff spot with the win.
