Sweetpatch's Rosters 2004/2005 Episode 2

Sweetpatch's Rosters 2004/2005 Episode 2Sweetpatch Roster Developer Jean-Michel Peyrou (Jomi) has created his second excellent Roster update for FIFA 2005 using Microsoft Access and UNIdb.

The aim of this patch is to replace the original EA rosters in order to make them more accurate according to the latest real life events, and from the success of Episode 1 (over 2,200 downloads in 5 days) he certainly seems to have achieved this.

The following leagues have been updated with Starting 11's, Player's positions, tactics, etc...:

  • English Premiership (from Episode 1)
  • French LFP 1 (from Episode 1)
  • German 1st Bundesliga (from Episode 1)
  • Italian Serie A (new in Episode 2)
  • Spanish Primera Liga (new in Episode 2)

You can find all the details concerning transfers and new players in the text file included in the download.

This patch is the second of a series for the current season, so keep an eye out here regularly for all Jomi's updates. Episode 3 coming next will update the most important club teams in each of the European leagues. Then, when the Creation Centre is out, we will add new teams that are not in the game (mostly big East european ones)!

Barclays Premiership Review

Barclays Premiership ReviewFollowing the weekend's matches we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

  • Everton earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over Norwich in the lunchtime kick-off.
  • An Eidur Gudjohnsen hat-trick ensured Chelsea regained second place in the Barclays Premiership and kept the pressure on Arsenal ahead of the Gunners' crunch clash with Manchester United. Gudjohnsen's quick-fire treble earned Chelsea a 4-0 victory over Blackburn at Stamford Bridge to reduce the gap at the top of the table.
  • Henrik Pedersen grabbed the winner as Bolton penetrated Tottenham's miserly defence twice to win 2-1 on the day that White Hart Lane mourned the passing of former manager Bill Nicholson.
  • Liverpool moved into fifth spot after two second-half goals disposed of Charlton 2-0.
  • In-form striker Andy Johnson scored twice as Crystal Palace handed fellow relegation candidates West Brom a 3-0 beating at Selhurst Park.
  • Nolberto Solano and Lee Hendrie were on target to hand Aston Villa a 2-0 win at home to struggling Fulham. Solano's free-kick gave Villa a half-time lead before Hendrie's 75th-minute strike.
  • Manchester United proved to be Arsenal's nemesis in their pursuit of a 50th unbeaten league game, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney scoring in their 2-0 victory.
  • Controversial striker Craig Bellamy brought an eventful week to a remarkable conclusion by claiming an 89th-minute 4-3 winner for Newcastle in a seven-goal thriller against Manchester City.
  • Southampton clawed their way off the bottom after a bitty 0-0 draw with Birmingham.
  • Stewart Downing's late strike cancelled out Diomansy Kamara's fine effort as Middlesbrough and Portsmouth shared the spoils 1-1 at The Riverside.

Big Raptor 2005 version 1.0
Big Raptor version 1.0Big Raptor from SoccerAccess does everything from importing/exporting to rebuilding bh files and fifa.fat with just one click using an exclusive technology.

You are able to browse zdata files and import/export files from them. One interesting option is that you are able to export a file and open it with EA Graph or O Edit with just one click, and after you have modified and saved that file Big Raptor will ask you if you want to import it again. Big Raptor also detects automatically which zdata the file belongs to. Editing FIFA has never been this easy!

Download this great new Big Raptor version 1.0 direct from our Download Boutique.

BIG Project 2005
BIG ProjectWith this tool from Diego Rostagnol you can:

  • Import/Export files to the BIG files
  • Compress/Decompress the files in the BIG files
  • Add new files to the BIG files
  • Delete files that are in the BIG Files
  • Generate BH files for the zdata##.big files
  • Regenerate the fifa.fat file to work properly with the modified BIG Files
  • See the files in the BIG file filtered by file type

This tool was made for FIFA 2005 but should work fine with FIFA 2004 and in future releases you will be able to view the FSH files too, maybe export/import FSH files to/from BMP, JPG, GIF, and PNG with transparencies. Another improvement for future releases is that you will be able to view the content of other files like in an hexadecimal editor, maybe edit it too. You also need to download the .NET Framework in order to run this program.

FIFA 2005 Review @ Gamespot

Buy Fifa 2005Gamespot have reviewed FIFA 2005 and summarise with:

"So, as the final whistle approaches, how do we feel that FIFA Soccer 2005 has performed? Well, there's no doubt that this is EA Sports' best soccer game to date on the pitch, but it's really unfortunate that the career mode isn't more user-friendly. The game boasts the same level of detail as other EA Sports titles for the most part, but you might notice minor bugs and glitches as you spend time with the game. None of these little snags impact the gameplay or are really worthy of a mention here, but make the game seem a little rushed. Despite that, FIFA 2005 is a great game for fans of the sport."

UEFA Champions League: Chelsea 2 CSKA Moscow 0

UEFA Champions League: Chelsea 2 CSKA Moscow 0 Chelsea’s Champions League bandwagon goes rolling on with possibly enough points already won for knockout stage qualification. The foreheads of John Terry and Eidur Gudjohnsen did the damage against CSKA Moscow in a performance that became increasing efficient rather than stylish.

José Mourinho had already announced that his main strikers, Gudjohnsen and Kezman, would retain their places despite the lack of recent goals and to be honest, there were few alternatives.

CSKA Moscow arrived as Chelsea’s closest challengers in Group H and despite a few injury absences of their own, they started the game looking a cut above PSG and Porto. Chelsea were surprisingly straight on the back foot as a spirited CSKA found men to spare, forcing two corners and seeing two shots blocked. Then Cech had to palm aside a shot from Carvalho, their Brazilian as opposed to Chelsea’s Portuguese version.

But such nonsense was soon put to an end on eight minutes as Chelsea slapped CSKA down with early goal. And guess what? It was another set-piece effort. Lampard was the corner taker, an inswinger to the far post, which Gudjohnsen headed back across goal with the keeper grabbing at air. It found John Terry, stooping to nod the ball in for his third Champions League headed goal of the campaign – a total only Didier Drogba can match.

The stoppage time board went up but there was still time for the Icelander to make his mark at the right end. Lampard on a free-kick should have been enough to set the Russian alarm bells ringing but they could still do nothing when an excellent ball in found Gudjohnsen who guided it with his head inside the far post. It was his first goal since the opening day.

CSKA Moscow had threatened at times in the first hour but on the balance this was a comfortable win and they certainly could not cope with Chelsea’s set-piece deliveries. The total now stands at six dead ball goals in three Champions League games.

Chelsea looking at a night of firsts versus CSKA

Chelsea looking at a night of firsts versus CSKAJosé Mourinho has backed Mateja Kezman to open his goalscoring account for Chelsea when Stamford Bridge plays host for the first ever time to a competitive visit from a Russian side tonight.

Goals have proved easier to come by in the Champions League than the Premiership so far with six in two European games as opposed to eight in nine on the domestic scene and while Mourinho finds this difference hard to explain, he sees it as a good chance for his Serbian striker to help himself to a goal or two.

"A good player doesn’t become a bad player in one month," Mourinho said of Kezman. "He is still a great player, he is still a goalscorer. Sometimes my feelings are correct and I have a feeling that tomorrow he will score a goal."

"It is difficult to understand," Mourinho admitted over the discrepancy in Chelsea’s potency in front of goal between the European and Premiership campaigns.

Chelsea face CSKA Moscow with a 100 per cent record and six points in Champions League Group H. CSKA are currently second, two points behind. This evening’s Russian experience will not just be a new one for Chelsea as a club. It will also be another stamp in the already well-thumbed football passport for the boss.

He concluded: "Nine or ten points always gets a team into the next stage so if we get three points tomorrow it will be fantastic for us."

Life as an SFTLA Manager – a Terriers view

Life as an SFTLA Manager – a Terriers viewIn our popular Forums Stato Stan has created a great report on his season so far for Huddersfield in the basement of SFTLA football – Division 3.

While this division does not have the superstars of the Premiership, it does possess some down to earth characters whose teams play some down to earth football.

As the recently departed Mr Clough used to say “Eh young man – if God wanted footballers to play the ball in the air, he’d have given them wings – lets get the ball on the deck and pass it!” – pure genius

Most teams in Div 3 seem to play to this ethos – not much Korean lobbing down here – except on a Sat evening as part of post match celebrations/commiserations when too many Double Diamonds and a dubious Korma, mixed with a bit of jiggy dancing at the local after hours nightclub with a girl called Sharon whose never heard of the SFTLA may result in a period of projectile lobbing, the end result being pavement pizza and not a neatly drilled volley into the roof of the net!

Anyway, Stato digresses – how has Markoteal been progressing this season?

In summary Stato believes Town are on the up, although a mid table finish looks most likely unless some better finishing can be made stick – the Town players believe they can do it their way – perhaps a little too much Sinatra on the team bus?

Check out the full version of this very entertaining report by clicking here.

Barclays Premiership Review

Barclays Premiership ReviewFollowing the weekend's matches we check out a brief summary of all the action below:

  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger refuses to write off Manchester United's Barclays Premiership title hopes after the Red Devils lost ground on Saturday. The Gunners' 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, coupled with United's goalless draw at Birmingham City, extended the gap between the two hopefuls. And if Arsenal beat United next weekend they will have a 14-point advantage over their rivals.
  • Manchester City boss Kevin Keegan was full of praise for his side after they handed Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho his first taste of Barclays Premiership defeat. City won 1-0 thanks to Nicolas Anelka’s first-half penalty, awarded following a foul on the Frenchman by Paulo Ferreira.
  • Rafael Benitez walked off the Craven Cottage pitch in animated discussion with Liverpool comeback hero Xabi Alonso - but he was serenity itself, explaining his team’s stunning revival from 2-0 down to a 4-2 victory at Fulham.
  • Manager of the Month Moyes saw his unsung heroes grab a 1-0 victory at home to Southampton - who are only kept off the bottom by goal difference - and 23-year-old Osman forced home the winner to become Everton’s top scorer this season.
  • Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink scored Middlesbrough's first Premiership hat-trick since the days of Fabrizio Ravanelli to take the plaudits from the 4-0 trouncing of Blackburn Rovers. Fellow Dutchman George Boateng scored the other - his first Middlesbrough goal - as the visitors made the most of Blackburn having to play for an hour with 10 men.
  • Sam Allardyce had no doubts as to the importance of Bolton Wanderers' 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Kevin Davies' header just before half time was enough for the Trotters, with the Eagles' tough start continuing.
  • Norwich City boss Nigel Worthington hailed his side’s 0-0 performance against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns and refused to dwell on the missed chances which could have sealed their first Barclays Premiership win.
  • Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness thought his side’s 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic on Sunday was a fair result.
  • Aiyegbeni Yakubu's 63rd minute goal proved decisive as Portsmouth recorded a close 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Fratton Park.

Premiership Preview: Manchester City v Chelsea

Premiership Preview: Manchester City v ChelseaManchester City boss Kevin Keegan will be hoping that his side can overcome an injury crisis to get a result against in-form Chelsea on Saturday.

Keegan's side have shown a marked improvement since press reports started to circulate claiming that the ex-England boss was on the verge of being sacked.

A 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace was followed by a 7-1 Carling Cup win over League One Barnsley, before they gave champions Arsenal their toughest test of the campaign only to slip to a 1-0 defeat.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has plenty of injury problems of his own, with Didier Drogba, Arjen Robben, Wayne Bridge, Celestine Babayaro and Adrian Mutu all unlikely to feature at Eastlands.

That means Mateja Kezman is likely to return to partner Eidur Gudjohnsen up front, while William Gallas is set to continue at left-back.

Mourinho's side are still unbeaten this season and have conceded just once in the Premiership, although they have struggled going forward, netting just eight times in eight games.

Their strong defence and ability on the break makes Chelsea strong favourites for this one, particularly as it is over 11 years since City last won a league match against them.

Last season the corresponding fixture saw Chelsea win 1-0, Gudjohnsen netting the winner with the visitors' only chance of the match, and an identical scoreline today would be no surprise.

FIFA STREET Announced

Electronic Arts has announced that FIFA STREET is scheduled for release next year under the EA SPORTS BIG™ brand.

In development at EA Canada, FIFA STREET is a highly-anticipated combination of arcade action blended with the culture of freestyle street football. By removing the rules from the simulation football experience, FIFA STREET exposes the heart of the world's beautiful game, on-the-ball flare and individual style.

Leading this movement are the worlds top professional players, showing off their skills and individual style in 4-on-4 match-ups against the backdrop of global venues that represent the true culture of street football. As a gamer you'll take on the best and be required to earn their respect, gradually building your reputation and team into an unstoppable force that leads the tide of street football.

"What FIFA STREET represents is a movement in football and a break from the modern game," says Wil Mozell, senior producer for the project. FIFA 2005 Xbox Review @ 3DAvenue.com

Buy Fifa 2005To celebrate today's launch of FIFA 2005, we have an informative review of the XBox version by 3DAvenue.com who summarise that:

"FIFA 2005 again shows EA's commitment to providing one of, if not the best soccer gaming experience around. The brand new career mode has both its pros and cons but overall enhances the replay value of the game significantly and FIFA fans will relish the chance to take each other on online. You'd be hard pressed to find a more fully featured soccer simulation and that is why the FIFA series will remain one of the best soccer games on the market for at least another year."

Pros:

  • International teams return
  • Xbox Live play
  • New career mode
  • First touch is a great addition
  • Great graphics
  • Great soundtrack

Cons:

  • Can't pick club initially in career mode

I started this project in the summer of 2003 but the real site as you now know it didn't get properly released until the 5th October 2003, after several design changes, etc. I wanted to try and offer the community a unique experience during every visit. This has been achieved by including the most important FIFA news, download news and world football news, all offering a mixed content.

We have a talented team of news posters, graphics editors and patch makers who I would personally like to thank for all their hard work, ideas and support.

Our strong partnership with the talented guys at FIFAECP.com has also helped produce a great forum community that is growing day by day. As it stands we now have over 1200 people registered since the boards were re-released back in February 2004.

Our long list of site features also grows regularly and in particular the first and only community site to have a Desktop News Alert System in the shape of InstantBreamster!

This milestone of one year may seem over shadowed by Sweetpatch's recently celebrated 5th anniversary (respect to Dave's hard work), but as a "new" site we want to mirror their achievements and have a long reign within the FIFA community!" (Thanks mate :)

"Better still that we are able to celebrate this during the same week as FIFA 2005 gets released!"

Pay the excellent Breamster.com a visit today and pass on your birthday wishes to Dan and the crew.

Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0

Chelsea 1 Liverpool 0For the second time this season, Joe Cole rose from the substitutes’ bench to fire Chelsea to a single goal victory.

The stunning half-volley, which came in the 63rd minute as the direct result of a well taken Lampard free kick, extends our unbeaten run to 8 games, and keeps us hot on the heels of Arsenal.

After the game Mourinho spoke out about recent criticism of Chelsea's tactics, and gave his thoughts on having 3 out of 4 strikers out through injury.

EA Football Database Researchers Wanted

EA Football Database Researchers WantedPlease check out this great opportunity for you as described by FIFA Assistant Producer Matt Holme of EA Sports.

"In my first days as an Assistant Producer here at EA Canada, I was assigned to the Common Football Database team. Together with three other Producers, I would be responsible for assuring that the teams and players who feature in this year’s FIFA and Total Club Manager games, look, play and perform like their real-life selves.

For the past two to three years, EA SPORTS have steadily been building up a team of community based researchers from all four corners of the globe.

Last year, as many of you will know, FIFA Football 2004 was the first FIFA to feature complete lower divisions from the five major football leagues of Europe. On top of this, Total Club Manager 2004 featured an even larger array of leagues and divisions meaning that our Team and Player Database grew tremendously. Both game’s databases came in for some criticism with certain players and teams appearing inaccurate.

This year we knew that, to ensure FIFA and TCM were truly the most up-to-date and complete football games ever created, we had to expand our team of researchers greatly.

First step was to completely redesign how our team and player data was collected. We built a brand new web based editor for our researchers to import the data into.

We then went on the look out for football minded individuals. The job description was simple; we needed dedicated people who would be interested in sharing their unique football knowledge by adding the information of their favourite clubs and players into our database.

News posts went out on the big FIFA and TCM community websites and forums. An application page was created and before we knew it, over 1000 potential candidates had applied.

From the masses of applications, the candidates who we felt boasted the best qualifications for the assignment were asked to come on board as “Managing Editors”. Each Managing Editor would be assigned a League/Division to look after. Their role would be to put together a team of “Club Editors” (also contacted from the application forms) who would be assigned a group of teams to research.

To date, over 100 Managing Editors have joined us, with a further 200 Club Editors contributing to a database which now boasts over 27,000 players from over 1800 teams.

We are not stopping there. With more players and teams being added all the time, we are always on the outlook for further talent. If being a Managing or Club Editor sounds like the type of pastime which would interest you, make sure you check out our online application form.

As a former webmaster of a FIFA community website, it is a real thrill to be constantly introducing talent from the community into our football games here at EA SPORTS. We realize the importance of the FIFA community and the websites that support them, and are constantly looking to increase the opportunities community members have to contribute to our football games."
