James Riley’s goal in the 85th minute secured a playoff spot for MLS Cup and avenged last week’s 5-4 loss to the Metros. The second half substitute scored his first professional goal that kept New England in first place in the Eastern Conference. The loss does not help the Metrostars chances for playoff action.

Edson Buddle’s two goals were enough to give the visitors the victory in Salt Lake City, Utah. Buddle scored early in the first half and again in first half stoppage time to keep the Crew’s playoff hopes alive. Real Salt Lake made the match interesting at the end on a goal by Andy Williams in the 86th minute. Salt Lake has no chance to make the playoffs in their first season.

Colorado won for only the second time this season on their travels with a 3-1 won over Chivas. Jean-Philippe Peguero of the Rapids and Arturo Torres of Chivas traded first half goals as the teams were even at the break. Jovan Kirovski scored from the penalty spot to give Colorado the lead for good. Dedi Ben Dayan scored from close range to finish off the match. Colorado qualifies for the playoffs with the victory and Chivas nightmare season is coming to an end.

The Earthquakes clinched first place in the Western Conference with a draw at home to FC Dallas. Ramon Nunez gave Dallas the lead on a penalty shot in the 58th minute. San Jose gained control of the match from that point on and were rewarded for their efforts in the 68th. Brian Ching slid to knock in a failed clearance from FC Dallas defender Drew Moor.
